  • Cis-trans forms of fatty acids in cigarette smoke condensate were separated and characterized using SP 2340 glass capillary gas chromatography. The transforms of fatty acids, palmitoeladic , 1-vaccenic, eladic and linoeladic acid were identified. These components were not present only 3% of the total fatty acid fraction, but they showed a very low transfer rate.

원전 복수계통 열교환기의 이음 원인 분석 (Abnormal Sound from Heat Exchanger of Condensate Water System at Nuclear Power Plant)

  • Abnormal sound was heard from a heat exchanger of condensate water system in a nuclear power plant, which was identified as impact sound of a loose part later. Nuclear power plants are normally equipped with loose part monitoring system for primary water system, but not for secondary water system. The abnormal sound was analyzed by using the impact signal-processing methodology based on the Hertz theory. The predicted results for impact location and size of the loose part showed good agreement with those of the actual loose part found during the overhaul period in the plant. So, this analysis methodology for the impact signal will be widely utilized for the primary and secondary side of the nuclear power plant.

  • Gas Chromatography를 이용하여 잎담배와 연기응축물 중의 비휘발성유기산과 지방산을 정량 분석하였다. 특히 이들 유기산들은 단엽담배일 때 주류연으로 이행율을 조사하였는 바 linolenic acid, 31~62%, linoleic, 21~59% palmitic 29~38%, malic acid 4~6% 정도의 이행율을 보였다.

  • The root cause of abnormal sound from a heat exchanger of condensate water system in a nuclear power plant is investigated by using the impact signal-processing methodology based on the Hertz theory. The predicted results for the location of impact force and the loose part size meet good agreement with the identified materials during the overhaul period in the plant. Nuclear power plants have experienced several loose parts and the frequency of the loose part will be increased along the aging of the plants. So, this analysis methodology for the impact signal will be widely utilized for the primary and secondary side of the nuclear power plant.

  • Nitrogen ion with various levels of dose and irradiation energy was irradiated on aluminum surfaces. Contact angle of surface was increased and surface color was changed by nitrogen ion implantation. During steam condensation experiment using nitrogen ion implanted specimen, dropwise condensation initially occurred on specimens. However, condensation mode eventually changed into filmwise condensation. The color of the surface was also changed from yellow-brown to silver-white. This change of surface color and condensation mode were results of hydrolysis reaction between condensate and nitrogen ion implanted on aluminum surfaces.

An Experimental Study of the Airside Performance of Slit Fin-and-Tube Heat Exchangers under Dry and Wet Conditions

  • Water condensate accumulated on the surface of a fin-and-tube heat exchanger significantly affects its thermal and hydraulic performances. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of condensate retention on the air-side heat transfer performance and flow friction for various flow and geometric conditions. Total of twelve samples of slit and plate fin-and-tube heat exchangers are tested under dry and wet conditions. The thermal fluid measurements are made using a psychrometric calorimeter. Frontal air velocity varies in the range from 0.7 m/s to 1.5 m/s. Using the experimental data, presented are heat transfer coefficients in terms of Colburn j-factors and friction factors, and these data are compared with the existing correlations.

  • Development of a model predictive control(MPC) algorithm and its application to the condensate recycle process of a cogeneration power station has been conducted. The cogeneration power station has different characteristics from other industrial processes where MPC has been dominantly applied in that the operating mode changes continuously with seasons and we Ether. Such a characteristic makes it difficulty, a linearized model was derived from mass and pressure balances and linearization. The MPC algorithm has been developed so that the controller tuning is easy with one tuning knob for each output and the constrained optimization is solved by an interior point method. Performance of the MPC algorithm has been verified with the numerically simulated process under various disturbance scenarios and mode changes.
