It is the "maturity rule" that concrete of the same mix, at the same maturity, has the same strength. In this study, the Nurse-Saul function which was proposed to account for the effects of temperature and time on strength development is used in computing maturity. After existing various functions to relate concrete strength to the maturity value are considered, new strenth-maturity function is proposed. Tests are conducted in order to compare prediction value with measured concrete strength. The constants in proposed prediction equation are determined by standard specimens(cylinders) test, and the equation is adopted to predict strength of slab. The slab was cast in the laboratory from the same batch of mole, and cores are cut from slab in order to estimate the actual strength. Tehese values are used to compare with proposed equation. equation.

In the recent years, a rigid pavement composed of a flat concrete slab has ken constructed due to the desirable structural strength of concrete, durability and economy. However, despite of precise design and construction of concrete highway pavement, some sections of the 88 Olympic express highway, Jung-bu express highway, and Kyung-bu express highway, which have shown premature cracking, faulting, and pumping before the end of their intended service life, have already been viewed with great concerns by highway officials and engineers. Since environmental variations and traffic loads might be considered as major factors to cause pavement failure problems, the thermal load due to temperature variations between top and bottom surface of the concrete slab was highlighted to verify analytical behavior of concrete slab using the finite element method.

The important factors that should be considered when designing and constructing the precast prestressed concrete pavement were investigated in this study. Those factors included traffic and environmental loads, interaction between the concrete slab and the underlying layers, determination of the slab thickness and the prestressing amount. In addition, the behaviors of the precast prestressed concrete pavement when post-tensioning was applied were analyzed using a finite element model. The effects of the number of anchors, the horizontal resistance of underlying layers, the pavement length, the slab thickness, and the bearing area of the anchorage on the distribution of compressive stresses were analyzed.
Due to the heterogeneity nature of the concrete, it is difficult to simulate the hyperdynamic behaviour and crack trajectory of concrete material when subjected to explosion loads. In this paper, a 3D nonlinear numerical study was conducted to simulate the hyperdynamic behaviour of concrete under various loading conditions using Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma (RHT) model. Detailed calibration was conducted to identify the optimal parameters for the RHT model on the material level. For the component level, the calibrated RHT parameters were used to simulate the failure behaviour of plain concrete (PC) slab under free air blast load. The response was compared with an available experimental result. The results show the proposed numerical model can accurately simulate the crack trajectory and the failure mode of the PC slab under free air blast load.
In this article, the performance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) flat slabs was investigated numerically. The influence of flexural steel reinforcement, steel fiber content, concrete compressive strength, and slab thickness were discussed. The numerical model was developed using ATENA-Gid, user-friendly software for non-linear structural analysis for the evaluation and design of reinforced concrete elements. The numerical model was calibrated based on eight experimental tests selected from the literature to validate the actual behavior of steel fiber in the numerical analysis. Then, a parametric study of 144 specimens was generated and discussed the impact of various parameters on the punching shear strength, and statistical analysis was carried out. The results showed that slab thickness, steel fiber content, and concrete compressive strength positively affect the punching shear capacity. The fib Model Code 2010 for specimens without steel fibers and the model of Muttoni and Ruiz for SFRC specimens presented a good agreement with the results of this study.
Recently, a concern about hollow core precast concrete (PC) slab has been increased as a method to improve the construction ability by reducing the self weight of structures during the construction. Hollow core slab which is known as a typical PC slab in domestic construction of PC building has a problem to put shear reinforcements in the web of element during the production of element in the factory. With regard to this point, recently, tripple ribs slab (TRS) which can be said as a new type of half PC slab system was developed. In TRS, it is possible to place shear reinforcements in PC element during the production of the element in the factory. This paper presents the shear test result of TRS which was done by one point loading test under simple support condition. Test parameters are the presence of cast-in-place (CIP) concrete and the contribution of lattice bars. From the test, it was found that the TRS has sufficient shear capacity to resist the design load and its strength can be predicted by the code equations for general beam. It is recommended to ignore the strength of lattice bar in the calculation of shear strength during the construction since its contribution is too low to be considered when CIP is not casted.

To get the possible for management and maintenance, it was analyzed the deformation characteristics, such as crest of embankment and concrete face slab, and leakage of concrete faced rockfill dams (CFRD). There are trends that embankment deformation depends on intact strength used rockfills rather than dam height, deformation normal to concrete face slab during the first reservoir filling is occurred more than 80% of the total deformation in general, and the magnitude and trend of concrete face slab deformation is similar to post-construction crest settlement. The results showed that the range of post-construction crest settlement suggested by Sherard and Cooke (1987), and Clements (1984) had a good agreement in the cases using rockfill with very high intact strength, but it had a trend which underestimated crest settlement in the cases using rockfill with medium to high intact strength. The maximum leakage rate in general was observed during the first reservoir filling and long-term leakage rate was rapidly increased when the dam height exceeds approximately 120m.

It was analysed the effect of pipe cooling as a measure to avoid thermal cracks due to the heat of hydration during the curing process of a massive prestressed concrete (PSC) slab. PSC slab has a complex three-dimensional shape of which the maximal and minimal thicknesses of cross-section were 2.8 and 0.95m, respectively. Steel pipes of which the diameter was 1 inch were employed for cooling. The horizontal and vertical distances between the contiguous pipes were 0.5 and 0.6m, respectively. One the four layers of cooling pipe were arranged according to the thickness of cross-section. Temperature distribution was calculated by the program developed by the authors, of which the accuracy was verified on a few published papers by the authors. Based on the temperature analysis of the cross-section which had four layers of cooing pipe, the maximum temperature of concrete interior was 54.2$^{\circ}C$ and the maximum differenced between the interior and surface temperatures of concrete was 14.$0^{\circ}C$ and, thereby, the thermal cracking index was 1.1. Upon the stress analysis, the thermal cracking index was 0.92 and the probability of thermal-crack development was 52%. Therefore, it was expected to make it possible to reduce the probability of thermal-crack development in a massive PSC slab by adopting pipe cooling.
The installation of joint is to prevent random cracking due to drying shrinkage stress of concrete slab. However contraction joint spacing is empirically implemented into slab constructions without detail calculation based on quantitative criteria. In this study, shrinkage strain of concrete due to concrete shrinkage stress was measured to suggest joint spacing based on the study results. The test environmental conditions were applied temperature of $15^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 60%. The design compressive strength used was 30 MPa and 40 MPa, which are currently used in concrete slab designs. The drying shrinkage test result was applied to drying shrinkage models (ACI 209R, CEB MC 90, B3, GL 2000 and Sakata). The results showed that the most appropriate model was ACI 209R model. Based on the research findings, quantitative contraction joint spacing locations were calculated.
The behavior of the concrete slabs-on-grade considering the horizontal resistance at the slab bottom, which exists due to the shear resistance of the foundation and the friction between the slab and the foundation, has been investigated when the slabs-on-grade are subjected to the vertical load. Analytical formulations have been developed to include the effect of the horizontal resistance at the slab bottom, and the solutions have been obtained in the transformed field domain using the Fourier transform. Finite element formulations have also been developed using the plate bending elements and the flat shell elements. The solutions from the analytical and numerical models have been compared and showed very good agreement. The sensitivity of the horizontal resistance to the stresses of the concrete slab has been investigated with various values of the slab thickness, elastic modulus, and vertical stiffness of the foundation. The analysis results show that the horizontal resistance at the plate bottom can significantly affect the stresses of the slab.
