Hydraulic Computation and Stress Analysis of Box Culvert (암거의 수리 및 응력계산)

  • Hydraulic computations to determine the elevation of canal bottom and mater surface for box type concrete culverts are discussed. Velocity and cross sectional area of flow are computed from Manning's formula. Aad then head loss and velocity head are considered to determine the elevation of bottom and water surface. For stress analysis, 13.5 ton live load and earth pressure are considered. Also longitudinal stress of box culverts is checked.

Atraumatic Safe Extraction for Intentional Replantation (의도적 재식술을 위한 비외상성 안전 발치법)

  • Intentional replantation is useful for failed cases of conventional dental treatment - including root canal treatment - to restore the tooth in question. Based on a recent study, it is relatively very successful; prognosis is good for a long period. On the other hand, a tooth that becomes an indication of intentional replantation is often severely weakened throughout several treatments. Moreover, with multi-rooted teeth, extracting without root fracture is difficult. Safe extraction that is free of coronal or root fracture is important, but little information is known as to a concrete, safe way of extraction. There are a few considerations for safe extraction. First, a tooth with orthodontic extrusion force is easier for extraction due to its increased mobility; it increases the amount of the periodontal ligament, which is essential for re-attachment. As a safe way of extraction, the use of physics forceps has been introduced recently; it minimizes damage to the gingiva and alveolar hone. This paper reports the good result of using atraumatic safe extraction via both orthodontic extrusion and physics forceps$^{(R)}$.

  • Freiburg, as the German Capital of the Environment, is well known to Koreans, and relationships with Korean cities are deeply extended. This study attempts to grasp the features of the historical and cultural environment in Freiburg's old town center pedestrian district through the investigation of the historical value of environmental elements and the way they are transmitted along with the components of city identity. Through the literature studies confirms that. The main canal in Freiburg, called Gewerbeknale, is valued both for its existence during the city construction period and for being an infrastructure to supply water to the Bachle(small urban canal) and Brunnen(fountain). In spite of a recipient environment in the middle of the 19th century, the traditional mosaic pavement has a new value as an mediator between citizens and the environment through the adaptations that have occurred in the city. This study has verified the dialectical repetition of crisis and conquest through the historical succession of environmental elements. The historical continuance of environmental elements has a strong influence on the acquisition of sameness and Individuality in city identity factors. The result of this study recommends the historical value of environmental elements that have survived in the urban environment, and verifies the necessity of a concrete strategy for preservation and related practical efforts.

Estimation of Rock Erodibility due to Energy Dissipation of Inflow Passing through the Sluice Gate of Seadike (배수갑문 유입수류의 에너지 감쇠에 따른 암석 침식 가능성 추정)

  • Sihwa seadike is originally designed to control the water level In lake Sihwa. However the sluice gate is being operated everyday to preserve the water quality of lake. Due to the frequent operation of gates the bottom of drainage canal which is composed of weathered rock and soft rock is being scoured. Recently the bottom in the front area of apron was protected by putting underwater concrete. This study is carried out to understand the hydraulic situation for protection, and to estimate the trend of scouring by comparing between energy dissipation and registance of bottom rock. Annandale(1995) introduced the erodibility index theory, and suggested a criteria to judge the erodibility of rock through the relation between the erodibility index and energy dissipation. Determenation of erodibility index of rock is based on the results of sample core analysis, and the energy dissipation of flow is calculated from the estimation of total head on the scale model. These two values are plotted on the criteria, and the erodibility of rock is determined.

Estimating the rating curve of irrigation canals in the Cheongju Sindae area

  • As the frequency and intensity of heavy rains increase, the vulnerability of agriculture to disasters also increases. Consequently, there is a need to improve flood and inundation predictions. To enhance the accuracy of inundation predictions, it is essential to monitor water level and discharge data within agricultural areas. This study was conducted to monitor water levels and rainfall in the Cheongju Sindae area from 2022 to 2023, and the data was utilized as input and validation data for agricultural inundation modeling. Four irrigation drainage canals were installed to a square-shaped concrete structure where the water level gauge is. It was then confirmed that the water level rises with rainfall. The flow velocities were monitored during periods of heavy rainfall. The rating curve, which estimates water level and flow velocity based on observations, was estimated using the software K-HQ. The resulting curve was presented with the Coefficient of Determination (R2). K-HQ was also used to calculate the equation for the rating curve, taking outliers into account at each data point. Outliers were extracted and the rating curve was recalculated. As the coefficient of determination of three out of four stations exceeded 0.95, the estimated rating curve may be considered reliable for discharge estimation. This study provides critical data for enhancing agricultural inundation modeling accuracy and drainage improvement projects.

Analysis of Rana coreana Behavior According to the Slope Angle Degree of Escape Ramp (콘크리트 수로 탈출로 경사각에 따른 한국산개구리 행동 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the angle-limit of the escape ramp by analyzing the frog behavior characteristics according to the inclination angle of the waterway escape ramp installed in the concrete U-bench plume pipe channel. Forthe experiment, an escape test device was manufactured with the same shape and number of materials applied in the field. And Rana coreana living in paddy wetlands were sel selected. The main behaviors of frogs on the slope were 'jumping', 'crawling' and 'slipping', and afterrecording the behavioralresults according to the inclination angle, statistical analysis was conducted using the chi-square test method. As a result of the analysis, there was no statistically significant difference between 30° and 40°. This result is an evidence for expanding the standard of inclination angle 30° suggested in the 'Guidelines for Installation and Management of Ecological Pathways' to a maximum of 40°. However, further research is required in that the escape ramp targets not only Korean frogs but also various small wild animals. However, considering that various wild animals are affected by artificial canals, additional studies using various target wild animals are needed.
