Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences between the level of satisfaction and concern regarding appearance according to gender, the importance of appearance in job interviews, and the influence appearance has on job-seeking stress and anxiety under the ever-increasing pressure on students to secure employment so that appropriate psychological interventions can be provided to undergraduates. Methods: The survey was conducted on 170 third and fourth year undergraduates in Gyeonggi province from August 31st to September 6th, 2012 to figure out the correlations and differences in variables of appearance satisfaction and concern, and the importance of appearance in job interviews and job-seeking stress and anxiety according to the differences in gender. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, two-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results: 1. There was difference between the genders for appearance satisfaction and concern. The level of satisfaction was higher in male students while concerns regarding appearance were higher in female students. There was no gender difference regarding the importance of appearance in job interviews, job-seeking stress, and job-seeking anxiety. 2. For the concerns in appearance, there was a significant difference between the genders in appearance management, and gender and the importance of appearance in job interviews showed significant interactive effects. Stress and anxiety from job-seeking did not show significant differences between the genders, but there were common significant interactive effects between gender and grades, gender and employment, and gender and the importance of appearance in job interviews. 3. Both male and female students showed higher job-seeking stress as their job-seeking anxiety was higher. Job-seeking anxiety was higher in male students who had higher concern in appearance, and in female students who placed more emphasis on the importance of appearance in job interviews. Conclusion: As female students perceived appearance in job interviews as important more than male students, their job-seeking anxiety was higher, while male students who showed higher concern in appearance also showed higher level of anxiety in job-seeking. As job-seeking anxiety was higher, job-seeking stress was also higher according to the entire participants, based on this result, methods to decrease job-seeking anxiety should be suggested.

Appearance concern of elderly women has been rapidly increasing with the expansion in aesthetic desire for growing old gracefully and pursuing a healthy and qualitative life. In this regard, the cosmetic industry has great possibilities and it is necessary to develop actively elderly women-oriented silver marketing. The purpose of this study was to review well-being disposition and appearance concern of elderly women. Furthermore, this study investigated the influence of well-being disposition and appearance concern on cosmetic purchase intention and brand loyalty. The sample of this research consisted of 209 elderly women over 55, which was selected from Seoul and the metropolitan area. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, the analysis of confidence level and regression analysis were used for the data analysis using SPSS. The study results showed that the factor of well-being disposition for elderly woman can be classified into an environment-oriented factor, an life satisfication factor and a physical health factor. In addition, the factor of appearance concern can be classified into 3 factors: serious consideration of appearance, appearance care and skin care. Among these factors, the physical health factor of well-being disposition and the factor for serious consideration of appearance related to appearance concern had effects on cosmetic purchase intention, which fumed out to be a potent influence on brand loyalty.
The purpose of the study is to investigate baseline data by exploring the self-esteem and general appearance management behavior in North Korean immigrant women. The data were collected from December 2014 to February 2015 from 201 participants. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The followings are the results of the present study. 1) The mean score of self-esteem was 2.40 in 4 points, and the mean of the appearance concern was 3.20 in 5 points. And the mean of general appearance management behavior was 2.67 in 5 points. Subjects had a lot of make-up and clothes behaviors. However exercise, food intake behaviors of subjects were lowerer than average. 2) There were significant differences between self-esteem, the appearance concern and general charateristeics(e.g age, intent weight loss, interest in cosmetic surgery). In general appearance management behavior, there was a significant difference among age, interest in cosmetic surgery and job in North Korea. 3) There was a significant correlation among self-esteem and the appearance concern, general appearance management behavior, age, intent weight control as well as interest in cosmetic surgery. In the appearance concern, it showed a correlation with general appearance management behavior, age, intent weight control as well as interest in cosmetic surgery. In general appearance management behavior, there was a significant correlation among the age, intent weight control and interest in cosmetic surgery. 4) 44.7% of general appearance management behavior was explained: self-esteem, the appearance concern. Therefore, it can be suggested that utilization of developing programs for improving self-esteem and appearance management behavior.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the standard weight and the perception of the figure, making girls' high school students the object of scientific study. Furthemore this study will try to find the factor having an effect on the weight through measuring the concern with appearance and health. The study consisted of 658 girls' high school students in Seoul. The data was analyzed by the methods of frequency, percentage, reliability, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The standard size of girls height was 160.95cm, their weight was 52.06kg. 2. 34 percent of the girls tested perceived of themselves of having proper figures. Especially in the case of overweight girls. Only 9.7 percent of girls were satisfied with their figure, the other 83.3 percent were not. 3. 88.4 percent of the girls were concerned with their weight. It was through mass communecation that girls were concerned with wheir weight. 41.2 percent of the girls were concerned with weight much more through mass communication than through any other things. This showed that the effect of mass communication on juveniles was increased. 4. The result of correlation of variable about the concern with appearance(p<0.001), the perception of their figures(p<0.001), the existence of weight controller in friends (p<0.001) and the concern with health(p<0.001) indicated significant positive correlation, on the other hand, the satisfaction of their figures(p<0.001) indicated negative correlation. This showed that the less satisfactory their figures were, the higher their concern about weight was. 5. In order th seize the variable having an effect on the concern with weight, the result of multiple regression analysis was that the concern with appearance (p<0.001), the satisfaction of figure (p<0.001), the concern with health (p<0.05), poket money (p<0.05) and health condition (p<0.05) had a statistically significant effect and the variables also 35.7% out of this model. Concern with appearance had the most important effect of all these variables.

This study was designed to find out how the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, BMI and body image of adult women affect their self-esteem. A questionnaire was prepared in the survey and a total of 456 adult women were selected by way of stratified random sampling. The research findings are as follows: 1. The sociocultural attitudes toward appearance were shown in two factors of 'internalization' and 'awareness'. The body image was shown in three dimensions of 'care for appearance', 'concern about weight', and 'appearance attractiveness'. 2. Internalization, recognition, and BMI influenced on 'care for appearance'. 'Concern about weight' was affected by internalization and BMI. Appearance attractiveness was affected only by BMI. 3. Adult women's self-esteem was influenced by appearance attractiveness, internalization, and care for appearance. 4. The behaviors of appearance management were differed according to the sociocultural attitudes towards appearance. Therefore, adult women form a higher degree of self-esteem is formed when they accept what they are regardless of their actual BMI and when they evaluate their body positively.
The purpose of this study was to examine the appearance management motives and body image perception according to males' appearance management behavior. A set of questionnaire was administered to 398 male consumers. Data were analyzed by utilizing frequency, factor analysis, ANONA, cluster analysis, and crosstabs. Factor analysis of body image perception extracted four factors such as appearance concern, appearance satisfaction, exercise ability, and weight control. Four groups of the appearance management behavior were classified into such as health oriented, active figure management, indifference to personal appearance, and fashion/skin care by cluster analysis. All groups pursued sociality in appearance management motives. The active figure management group showed highest concern about in all the appearance management motives and body image perception.
The purpose of this study was to investigate appearance concern, attitude toward cosmetic surgery, self-esteem, quality of life, and to identify affecting factors of quality of life on elderly women. The subjects consisted of 162 elderly women in the G city. The variables were measured using questionnaires, analyzed using descriptive statistic, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The appearance concern, attitude toward cosmetic surgery were not significant difference in 60s and 70s. Quality of life was significant difference in 60s and 70s. Factors influencing quality of life in 60s were self-esteem, perceived health status, and explanation of quality of life is 39.1%. In 70s were self-esteem, level of education, and explanation of quality of life is 41.7%. These results suggest that it is necessary for aging preparation education included appearance concern and should be made to develop program to improve quality of life.

From the above research findings, adult women's satisfaction with their body was shown high when they were subjectively satisfied with their appearance attractiveness. And the results indicate that adult women are under pressure of socioculturally distorted image of beauty.

The purpose of this study was to identify men's beauty service markets based on socio-cultural appearance attitude and to compare their satisfaction and intention to revisit beauty service. The study was done by survey method. Data of three hundred men aged from 20's to 40's were collected by on-line survey. Descriptive analyses, factor analyses, cluster analyses, Duncan tests, multiple regressions, and path analyses were applied. The results are as follows: First, five factors were found for men's socio-cultural attitude for their appearance. They were high involvement in appearance, social appearance, appearance satisfaction, appearance comparison and low involvement in appearance. Second, cluster analysis based on socio-cultural attitude produced three customer groups such as high involvement, social concern & satisfaction, and low involvement. Third, customer groups showed significant differences in some demographics and some items of service dimensions, which resulted in significant differences in satisfaction, and intention to revisit beauty shop services. A high involvement group was composed of young and unmarried men with more frequent visit to beauty shop service. In general, both the high involvement and the social concern & satisfaction groups showed higher evaluations than the low concern group in some of service items, level of satisfaction, and intention to revisit. In conclusion, attitude on their appearance could be useful factors in segmenting men's beauty service market. Levels and types of beauty shop service should be differentiated among consumer markets.

This study investigates the effects of sociocultural influences and body image on appearance enhancement behaviors (facial management, clothing selection, and weight/figure management). For data collection, a questionnaire was administrated to 562 female college students in Gwangju City, Chonnam area and Chonbuk area, Korea, from May 23 to June 10, 2011. To analyze the data, a SPSS 18.0 statistics package was used, and descriptive statistical analysis, frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. The results were as follows. First, sociocultural influences were divided into three factors: parental influence, media influence, and peer influence. Overall sociocultural influences had positive effects on appearance enhancement behavior. Second, body image was divided into two factors: weight-concern and appearance-concern. Sociocultural influences had significant effects on overall body image. Third, body image appeared to have positive effects on overall appearance enhancement behavior.
