  • A RFID is an automatic data collection system based on the radio frequency and is the key technology of ubiquitous computing environments. Since the locations of objects attached by RFID tags can be acquired by readers, it is possible to query the locations of tags. To query tags efficiently, the data of RFID tags should be modeled and indexed. However, since the location information of tags, the predicates of queries, are differ from coordinates of moving objects, it is difficult to model tags under the concept of moving objects, In this paper, we propose the location model of tags to represents the trajectories of tags. The location model is composed of the set and graph based approaches.

  • A logical and systematic procedure to derive a mathematical model for magnetically levitation(maglev) systems with a combined lift and guidance is developed by using and graph. First, bond graph is constructed for the energy-feeding system with magnetic leakage flux. And, the overall maglev system in which lift and guidance dynamics are coupled is modeled by using the concept of multi-port field in bond notations. Finally, the LQG/LTR control systems are designed for single-input single-output and for multi-input multi-output maglev systems. In this paper, it has been shown that the bond graph is an excellent method for modeling multi-energy domain systems such as maglev systems and the multivariable control system is required to improve the performance of the maglev system with a combined lift and guidance.

  • In this paper, the application of object-oriented Data Model to develop a multibody dynamic system, called O-DYN, is introduced. Mechanical components, such as bodies, joints, forces are modeled as objects which have data and method by using object-oriented modeling methodology. O-DYN, a dynamic analysis system, based on the object-oriented modeling concept is made in C++. One example is analyzed through the O-DYN, It is expected that the analysis program or individual module constructed in this paper would be useful for mechanical engineers in predicting the dynamic responses of multibody systems and developing an analysis program

  • The macro-parametric approach, which is a method of CAD model exchange, has recently been proposed. CAD models can be exchanged in the form of a macro file, which is a sequence of modeling commands. As an event-driven commands set, the standard macro file can transfer design intents such as parameters, features and constraints. Moreover it is suitable for the network environment because the standard macro commands are open, explicit, and the data size is small. This paper introduces the concept of the macro-parametric method and proposes its representation using XML technology. Representing the macro-parametric data using XML allows managing vast amount of dynamic contents, Web-enabled distributed applications, and inherent characteristic of structure and validation.

  • Tire molds are manufactured by aluminum casting, direct five-axis machining, and electric discharging machining. Master models made of chemical wood are necessary if aluminum casting is used. They are designed with a three-dimensional computer-aided design system and milled by a five-axis machine. In this paper, a method for generating and machining a tire surface model is proposed and demonstrated. The groove surfaces, which are the main feature of the tire model, are created using a parametric design concept. An automatically programmed tool-like descriptive language is presented to implement the parametric design. Various groove geometries can be created by changing variables. For convenience, groove surfaces and raw cutter location (CL) data are generated in two-dimensional drawing space. The CL data are mapped to the tread surface to obtain five-axis CL data to machine the master model. The proposed method was tested by actual milling using the five-axis control machine. The results demonstrate that the method is useful for manufacturing a tire mold.

  • This paper proposes a spherical probe allowing acoustic intensity measurements in three dimensions to be made, which creates a diffracted field that is well-defined, thanks to analytic solution of diffraction phenomena. Six microphones are distributed on the surface of the sphere along three rectangular axes. Its measurement technique is not based on finite difference approximation, as is the case for the ID probe but on the analytic solution of diffraction phenomena. In fact, the success of sound source identification depends on the inverse models used to estimate inverse diffraction phenomena, which has non-linear properties. In this paper, we introduce the concept of nonlinear inverse diffraction modeling using a neural network and the idea of 3 dimensional sound source identification with several tests.

  • Bayesian spatiotemporal analysis is of considerable interest to epidemiological applications because health data is collected over space-time with complicated dependency structures. A basic concept in spatiotemporal modeling is introduced in this paper to analyze space-time disease data. The paper reviews a range of Bayesian spatiotemporal models and analyzes Hepatitis A data in Korea.

  • One of the important open problems in modeling plants is the extension of subdivision algorithms to branching structures. Most of the applications use the concept of L-system to produce branching structures as a sequence of lines and apply the subdivision scheme to appear as curves. In this paper, we explain how L-systems can be modified to produce branching structures. This is also very useful for generating the geometry of various shapes. The proposed technique, called an adaptive L-System, describes branching forms and leaves by making local curve without applying the subdivision steps. Advantages of the suggested algorithm over previous techniques are given. Validation of the algorithm are discussed, analyzed and illustrated by some experimental results.

  • With the increased reliance on M & S(Modeling & Simulation) in military training, defense analysis, and system acquisition. The credibility of M & S becomes even more critical issue in the M & S application community. In this paper, we have introduced the VV & A(Verification, Validation and Accreditation) concept of M & S for the assurance of its credibility, and proposed the VV & A model applicable to a military simulator development with the illustrative example of MSAM(Medium range-Surface to Air Missile) system simulator.

  • Due to high power ratings and low conduction loss, the IGBT has become more attractive in high power applications. However, its slower characteristics than those of MOSFET cause severe switching losses and switching frequency limitation. This paper proposes the IGBT's soft switching concept with the help of MOSFET, where each of the IGBT and MOSFET plays its role during on-periods and switching instants. Also, the switching losses are analyzed by using the linearized modeling and the modeling and the operations of a converter are investigated to confirm the soft switching of IGBT's.
