An Effective Experimental Optimization Method for Wireless Power Transfer System Design Using Frequency Domain Measurement

  • This paper proposes an experimental optimization method for a wireless power transfer (WPT) system. The power transfer characteristics of a WPT system with arbitrary loads and various types of coupling and compensation networks can be extracted by frequency domain measurements. The various performance parameters of the WPT system, such as input real/imaginary/apparent power, power factor, efficiency, output power and voltage gain, can be accurately extracted in a frequency domain by a single passive measurement. Subsequently, the design parameters can be efficiently tuned by separating the overall design steps into two parts. The extracted performance parameters of the WPT system were validated with time-domain experiments.

  • In this paper, a new type of switchgear, electro magnetic force driving actuator (EMFA), is developed and analyzed, applicable to high voltage gas circuit breaker (HGCB). Transient analysis is performed in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the EMFA. The distribution of static magnetic flux is obtained using the finite element method (FEM). The governing electric and kinematical equations are solved using the time difference method (TDM). Fabrication and experiments were performed in order to prove the applicability of HGCB for overall class. In comparing the experiment with simulated data, it is confirmed that analysis of the dynamic characteristics of EMFA is appropriate for design.

  • Anisotropic TMAH etching is key processing step for the fabrication of pendulum structure. During the etching, convex corners are attacked, and a proper compensating structure design is required when fabricating pendulum structures with sharp convex corner. In this paper, we present four compensation structures for convex corner compensation with 30% wt TMAH-water solution at $89\pm1^{\circ}C$ temperature, and observe the etched convex corner by optical microscope. we compare the result of calculations and experiments about four convex corner compensation patterns.

  • An alternate application of MgO film for the improvement of discharge characteristics and life time in an ac plasma display panel (PDP) is suggested. In this research, we deposited MgO on the phosphor to get the same address characteristics irrespective of each phosphor. To avoid the luminance and efficiency degradation by MgO deposition on the phosphor, we optimized the MgO thickness through experiments. The results showed that PDP with MgO coated phosphor has a uniform formative delay in address discharge and improved degradation characteristics.

A Heuristic Time Sharing Policy for Backup Resources in Cloud System

  • Cloud computing promises high performance and cost-efficiency. However, most cloud infrastructures operate at a low utilization, which greatly adheres cost effectiveness. Previous works focus on seeking efficient virtual machine (VM) consolidation strategies to increase the utilization of virtual resources in production environment, but overlook the under-utilization of backup virtual resources. We propose a heuristic time sharing policy of backup VMs derived from the restless multi-armed bandit problem. The proposed policy achieves increasing backup virtual resources utilization and providing high availability. Both the results in simulation and prototype system experiments show that the traditional 1:1 backup provision can be extended to 1:M (M≫1) between the backup VMs and the service VMs, and the utilization of backup VMs can be enhanced significantly.

  • Understanding and control of thermal history of heat-treated components are very important in heat treating process. A computer program was developed for prediction of thermal history in quenching process with various cooling media and agitation conditions. Computer simulation of heat flow in quenching treatment of spur gear of SCM 22 H was carried out by two and three dimensional finite difference method.   • This paper investigates the effect of absorption loss by a human body to the received signal strength with respect to on-body transmitting antenna positions in on-to-off wireless body area networks. This investigation is based on measurement results obtained from experiments performed on human bodies (male and female) using planar inverted-F antennas in an anechoic chamber. The total absorption loss by the human body is also presented through the SEMCAD-X simulations. Our investigation showed that the received signal strength becomes lower when the transmitting antenna is mounted at a specific position where more absorption loss is experienced. The statistical analyses of on-to-off body channel characteristics based on the measurement results are presented.

  • A design of circular polarized(CP) microstrip antenna with a fenced ground is proposed and the equivalent circuit is derived. The antenna consists of a square radiating patch with a pair of truncated comers, a bottom ground and a fenced ground. From conducted experiments, a patch size reduction using the metal fence as large as 25% from the conventional patch structure, has been obtained. The input admittance of the extracted equivalent circuit is shown to agree with that of the measurement. And the design parameters and performance of the proposed antenna are examined by analyzing the fields and circuit behaviors.

  • In this paper, Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) modeling using Polynomial Neural Networks (PNN) has been introduced. The deposition of SiO2 was characterized via a 25-1 fractional factorial experiment, was used to train PNNs using predicted squared error (PSE). The optimal neural network structure and learning parameters were determined by means of a second fractional factorial experiment. The optimized networks minimized both learning and prediction error. From these PNN process models, the effect of deposition conditions on film properties has been studied. The deposition experiments were carried out in a Plasma Therm 700 series PECVD system. The models obtained will ultimately be used for several other manufacturing applications, including recipe synthesis and process control.

A Novel Posterior Probability Estimation Method for Multi-label Naive Bayes Classification

  • A multi-label classification is to find multiple labels associated with the input pattern. Multi-label classification can be achieved by extending conventional single-label classification. Common extension techniques are known as Binary relevance, Label powerset, and Classifier chains. However, most of the extended multi-label naive bayes classifier has not been able to accurately estimate posterior probabilities because it does not reflect the label dependency. And the remaining extended multi-label naive bayes classifier has a problem that it is unstable to estimate posterior probability according to the label selection order. To estimate posterior probability well, we propose a new posterior probability estimation method that reflects the probability between all labels and labels efficiently. The proposed method reflects the correlation between labels. And we have confirmed through experiments that the extended multi-label naive bayes classifier using the proposed method has higher accuracy then the existing multi-label naive bayes classifiers.
