  • Nowadays, computer game dependency among adolescents, especially male adolescents, is emerging as a social problem. Therefore, treatment for computer game dependency has become positively necessary. This study aimed at investigating the effects of participation in sociodrama on the students suffering from computer game addiction. For this study, 380 male students in the 8th grade were asked to complete a questionnaire about themselves. After these data had been analyzed using SPSS, eight students were selected as the experimental group. The control group consisted of eight adolescents who were similar to the experimental group in the level of computer game dependency and in the psychological factors such as impulsiveness, depression, and the lack of self-control. The experimental group participated in twelve sociodrama sessions over 11 weeks, whereas the control group did not receive any treatment. The first follow-up test was conducted eleven weeks after the pretest, and the second follow-up test was done nine weeks after the first one. The results indicate that the sociodrama played an important role in alleviating the computer game addiction. At the same time, the participation in sociodrama brought positive changes in the psychological factors of the adolescents.

Methods : We investigated levels of internet addiction using Internet Addiction Scale in 1,193 high school and middle school students. Participants were divided into 3 groups (high risk user group, potential risk user group, normal user group) according to the results from internet addiction scale. We additionally surveyed characteristics of internet use, and patterns of communication and Communication Scale based on Satir theory in 614 from 1,193 participants. Results : Boys showed higher tendencies for internet addiction than girls in internet addiction scale. There were significant differences in mean computer using time especially during weekends among 3 internet user groups. The distribution of communication types in each internet user group was similar and this finding coincided with previous study results. However high risk user group showed higher scores in each inadequate communication pattern such as placating, blaming, super-reasonable and irrelevant stance. Conclusion : These results suggest that adolescents who use internet in addictive patterns may have more problematic communication styles and these may be associated with poor interpersonal relationships.

  • The purpose of the study is to verify whether literature therapy program for prevention of smartphone addiction is effective for adolescents. The subjects of this study were 150 students of J City, K middle school. After completing the program, they were conducted post-test for both the experimental and control groups. The study found that the program was effective in mitigating smartphone addiction but not in reducing the directed life problem. It was also found to be effective in reducing tolerance and loss of control and problems of withdrawal and emotional experience. The study suggests that institutional arrangements are needed for linking with related organizations in the region because it is difficult to effectively prevent the increasing problem of smartphone addiction unless an adolescents program for youth is linked to the school. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct parent education for prevention of smartphone addiction in computer curriculum of school subjects.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting Visual Display Terminal (VDT) syndrome for elementary school students in the digital learning environment. Multiple regression analyses were performed to identify the factors affecting VDT syndrome in the digital learning environment. This was conducted with 256 elementary school students in grades 5-6 with more than a year of experience in digital learning. The regression model explained 41% of elementary school students' VDT syndrome in the digital learning environment. Variables significantly affecting VDT syndrome include game addiction, sleep time, and air quality with game addiction as the most influential. In the digital learning environment, VDT syndrome is significant because it has physical and psychological impacts on the growth of elementary school students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines for ideal computer usage habits for this age group.

In all subjects, there were significant differences in anxiety, depression, internet self-efficacy and outcome expectancy, leisure style, places of internet use, internet connecting method, and insight on internee addiction. But, in addicted group, there was no significant difference among three areas. Conclusion: This study suggested that the difference in economic, cultural, and geographic state was not related to prevalence of internet addiction. Although there were significant differences in anxiety, depression, self-efficacy associated with internee use, leisure style, places of internet use, internet connecting method, insight on internet addiction among three areas, there were no significant difference in addicted group among three areas. So, we concluded that the difference in economic, cultural, and geographic state did not influence the prevalence of internet addiction, and despite the difference in economic, cultural, and geographic state, people in three areas were equally influenced by internet addiction.
