A Study on Design Concept of an App with Matching Enneagram and Character

  • "Know thyself" is one of the most famous ancient proverbs. We need to know ourselves to understand others and find true ourselves. Enneagram is one of the tools we can use to do it. It has drawn more and more attention from people by its effectiveness and spiritual depth. It has been widely promoted in both business management and spirituality contexts. It has many concepts to be understood. Holy ideas and virtues are understood to be restored to find our true self which is the purpose of using the Enneagram. Actually, holy ideas and virtues are similar with character qualities which comprise character. In this paper, holy ideas and virtues are matched with corresponding character qualities. To promote transformative process of character development through Enneagram, an app was designed. It has 2 levels. Level 1 is to find personality type and show corresponding character qualities of 9 personality types to users. Level 2 is to find subtypes and Enneagram Levels of Development for further purpose.

  • Deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) is an advanced technology in image recognition. Because of extreme computing resource requirements, DCNN implementation with software alone cannot achieve real-time requirement. Therefore, the need to implement DCNN accelerator hardware is increasing. In this paper, we present a field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based hardware accelerator design of DCNN targeting handwritten Hangul character recognition application. Also, we present design optimization techniques in SDAccel environments for searching the optimal FPGA design space. The techniques we used include memory access optimization and computing unit parallelism, and data conversion. We achieved about 11.19 ms recognition time per character with Xilinx FPGA accelerator. Our design optimization was performed with Xilinx HLS and SDAccel environment targeting Kintex XCKU115 FPGA from Xilinx. Our design outperforms CPU in terms of energy efficiency (the number of samples per unit energy) by 5.88 times, and GPGPU in terms of energy efficiency by 5 times. We expect the research results will be an alternative to GPGPU solution for real-time applications, especially in data centers or server farms where energy consumption is a critical problem.

  • Intelligent Character Recognition System for Account Payable (ICRS AP) Automation represents the process of capturing text from scanned invoices and extracting the key fields from invoices and storing the captured fields into properly structured document format. ICRS plays a very critical role in invoice data streamlining, we are interested in data like Vendor Name, Purchase Order Number, Due Date, Total Amount, Payee Name, etc. As companies attempt to cut costs and upgrade their processes, accounts payable (A/P) is an example of a paper-intensive procedure. Invoice processing is a possible candidate for digitization. Most of the companies dealing with an enormous number of invoices, these manual invoice matching procedures start to show their limitations. Receiving a paper invoice and matching it to a purchase order (PO) and general ledger (GL) code can be difficult for businesses. Lack of automation leads to more serious company issues such as accruals for financial close, excessive labor costs, and a lack of insight into corporate expenditures. The proposed system offers tighter control on their invoice processing to make a better and more appropriate decision. AP automation solutions provide tighter controls, quicker clearances, smart payments, and real-time access to transactional data, allowing financial managers to make better and wiser decisions for the bottom line of their organizations. An Intelligent Character Recognition System for AP Automation is a process of extricating fields like Vendor Name, Purchase Order Number, Due Date, Total Amount, Payee Name, etc. based on their x-axis and y-axis position coordinates.

Real-time Implementation of Character Movement by Floating Hologram based on Depth Video

  • In this paper, we implement to make the character content with the floating hologram. The floating hologram is the one of hologram techniques for projecting the 2D image to represent the 3D image in the air using the glass panel. The floating hologram technique is easy to apply and is used in exhibitions, corporate events, and advertising events. This paper uses both the depth information and the unreal engine for the floating hologram. Simulation results show that this method can make the character content to follow the movement of the user in the real time by capturing the depth video.

A Study on Character Recognition using HMM and the Mason's Theorem

  • In most of the character recognition systems, the method of template matching or statistical method using hidden Markov model is used to extract and recognize feature shapes. In this paper, we used modified chain-code which has 8-directions but 4-codes, and made the chain-code of hand-written character, after that, converted it into transition chain-code by applying to HMM(Hidden Markov Model). The transition chain code by HMM is analyzed as signal flow graph by Mason's theory which is generally used to calculate forward gain at automatic control system. If the specific forward gain and feedback gain is properly set, the forward gain of transition chain-code using Mason's theory can be distinguished depending on each object for recognition. This data of the gain is reorganized as tree structure, hence making it possible to distinguish different hand-written characters. With this method, $91\%$ recognition rate was acquired.

  • In computer graphics, most animations of characters have been created using the traditional and often highly labor intensive key-framing technique. Recently, character animation is demanded increasingly automated techniques for animation according to interaction with the user or environment of the user. In this paper, we will propose a new method which can animate characters automatical/y with user interactions. The character's behavior is determined as a result of understanding the emotional condition of the user. Psychology and cognitive AI provide some ideas about how to approach this problem. Our study is based mostly on the theories of Ortony, Clore and Collins, which were designed to be implemented computationally. In our system, we can make 22 emotion types and some more behavior features and we apply to some characters.

  • We propose expert system for restoration the original character form of ancient relics based on image processing and computer graphics. Letters engraved in relief like relics and intaglio like curved tombstones and letters engraved in plane or curved part of cultural asset may have been broken by a lot of rubbed copy, a long time and tide. In this paper, we suggest a new method for extracting and recovering the broken letters of cultural asset into an original form by using Z-map, morphological filter, and high frequency filter. Based on the suggested method. we develop the character recovering system.

A Study of Story Visualization Based on Variation of Characters Relationship by Time (등장인물들의 시간적 관계 변화에 기초한 스토리 가시화에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose and describe the system to visualize the story of contents such as movies and novels. Character-net is applied as story model in order to visualize story. However, it is the form to be accumulated for total movie story, though it can depict the relationship between characters. We have developed the system that analyzes and shows the variation of Character-net and characters' tendency in order to represent story variation depending on movie progression. This system is composed by two windows that can play and analyze sequential Character-nets by time, and can analyze time variant graph of characters' degree centrality. First window has a function that supports to find important story points like the scenes that main characters appear or meet firstly. Second window supports a function that track each character's tendency or a variation of his tendency through analyzing in-degree graph and out-degree. This paper describes the proposed system and discusses additional requirements.

A Method for Caption Segmentation using Minimum Spanning Tree

  • Conventional caption extraction methods use the difference between frames or color segmentation methods from the whole image. Because these methods depend heavily on heuristics, we should have a priori knowledge of the captions to be extracted. Also they are difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a method that uses little heuristics and simplified algorithm. We use topographical features of characters to extract the character points and use KMST(Kruskal minimum spanning tree) to extract the candidate regions for captions. Character regions are determined by testing several conditions and verifying those candidate regions. Experimental results show that the candidate region extraction rate is 100%, and the character region extraction rate is 98.2%. And then we can see the results that caption area in complex images is well extracted.
