  • This study investigated the needs and effectiveness of the application of Computer-Aided Systems Engineering Tool in order to enhance the chance of success of the large and complex system development projects like City Train System. Furthermore, it was shown that the merits of Systems Engineering and Project Management must be complementary to each other in their interaction in a project. Especially, for the project plans must be executed based on the fully understood system being developed, the technical and management data of the system development need be integrated and be able to support exact and rapid decision making of project planning. As an alternative solution approach, a model for development knowledge capture integrating both technical and management data of system development was proposed using Computer Aided Systems Engineering tool-Cradle.

  • In this paper, Computer Aided Optimum Design Technique for Three-Phase Induction Motors is proposed. In the technique, reference magnetic flux, specific electric loading factor, specific magnetic loading factor(magnetic flux density) and current density are adopted as design parameters, and minimum total cost including material cost and loss power cost is adopted as a objective function which has to satisfy output condition too. As a result of application to the existing motor, it is proved that this technique is very effective in view of gradually increasing energy costs.

  • Computer-Aided Reliable and Optimal Design (CAROD) system is an efficient tool defining the best compromise between cost and safety. Using the concurrent engineering concept, it can supply the designer with all numerical information in the design process. This system integrates several fields such as multidisciplinary optimization, reliability analysis, finite element analysis, geometrical modeling, sensitivity analysis and concurrent engineering. When integrating these disciplines, many difficulties are found such as model coupling and computational time. In this paper, we propose a new concurrent methodology satisfying the reliability requirement, allowing the coupling of different models and reducing the computational time. Two applications (rotating disk and hook structures) demonstrate that CAROD system can be a practical concurrent engineering application for designers.

  • A low-temperature cofired-ceramic (LTCC) multi-layer ceramic (MLC) band-pass filter (BPF) is presented, which has the benefits of low cost and small size. The BPF is designed for an IMT-2000 handset. The computer-aided design technology is also presented. The BPF with an attenuation pole at below the passband has been discussed and realized. The equivalent circuit of the BPF was established by transmission lines and lumped capacitors. The frequency characteristics of the LTCC-MLC BPF is well acceptable for IMT-2000 application.

  • Digital technology has changed various aspects of the clinical dentistry. The intraoral scanner and Computer-aided design / Computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology are widely used in fabricating fixed prostheses and in implant surgery. These technologies greatly improved the efficiency of clinical and laboratory procedures. With all newly introduced software, devices, and clinical studies, digital technology has been actively applied in removable prostheses. It is now possible to fabricate the removable prostheses more quickly and easily through subtractive and additive manufacturing. Various clinical and laboratory protocols were introduced by many manufacturers. The purpose of this review is to summarize the literature on digital technology for fabricating complete denture with current status and future perspectives.

  • For successful surgery-first approach, accurate prediction of skeletal and dental changes following orthognathic surgery is essential. With recent development of digital technology using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, attempts to provide more predictable orthodontic/orthognathic treatment have been made through 3D virtual surgery and digital tooth setup. A clinical protocol for the surgery-first orthognathic approach using virtual surgery is proposed. A case of skeletal Class III patient with facial asymmetry treated by the surgery-first approach using digital setup and virtual surgery is presented. Advantages and limitations of applying CAD/CAM technology to orthognathic surgery are discussed.

  • This case report describes a dynamic digital esthetic rehabilitation procedure that integrates a new three-dimensional augmented reality (3D-AR) technique to treat a patient with multiple missing anterior teeth. The prostheses were designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software and virtually trialed using static and dynamic visualization methods. In the static method, the prostheses were visualized by integrating the CAD model with a 3D face scan of the patient. For the dynamic method, the 3D-AR application was used for real-time tracking and projection of the CAD prostheses in the patient's mouth. Results of a quick survey on patient satisfaction with the two visualization methods showed that the patient felt more satisfied with the dynamic visualization method because it allowed him to observe the prostheses directly on his face and be more proactive in the treatment process.

  • During the past decade, researchers have investigated the use of computer-aided mammography interpretation. With the application of deep learning technology, artificial intelligence (AI)-based algorithms for mammography have shown promising results in the quantitative assessment of parenchymal density, detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, and prediction of breast cancer risk, enabling more precise patient management. AI-based algorithms may also enhance the efficiency of the interpretation workflow by reducing both the workload and interpretation time. However, more in-depth investigation is required to conclusively prove the effectiveness of AI-based algorithms. This review article discusses how AI algorithms can be applied to mammography interpretation as well as the current challenges in its implementation in real-world practice.

  • The objective of this paper is to design segmentation algorithm for applying the breast ultrasound image to CAD(Computer Aided Diagnosis). This study is conducted after understanding limits, used algorithm and demands of CAD system by interviewing with a medical doctor and analyzing related works based on a general CAD framework that is consisted of five step-establishment of plan, analysis of needs, design, implementation and test & maintenance. Detection function of CAD is accomplished by Canny algorithm and arithmetic operations for segmentation. In addition to, long computing time is solved by extracting ROI (Region Of Interests) and applying segmentation technical methods based morphology algorithm. Overall course of study is conducted by verification of medical doctor. And validity and verification are satisfied by medical doctor's confirmation. Moreover, manual segmentation of related works, restrictions on the number of tumor and dependency of image resolution etc. was solved. This study is utilized as a support system aided doctors' subjective diagnosis even though a lot of future studies is needed for entire application of CAD system.

  • A high-speed rail system represents a typical example of large-scale multi-disciplinary systems, consisting of subsystems such as train, electrical hardware, electronics, control, information, communication, civil technology etc. The system design and acquisition data of the large-scale system must be the subject under strict configuration control and management. Not only the requirements of the large-scale system dictate the contracts with the suppliers but also become the basis for the development process, project execution, system integration, and testing. The requirements database provide the system design specification of all development activities. Using the RDD-100, a systems engineering tool, the Korea next-generation high-speed rail program can establish requirements traceability and development process management in performing the enabling train technology development projects. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to the Korea next-generation high-speed railway project. Especially, the focus of the study was on requirement management and PBS(Product Breakdown Structure) management.
