  • This paper presents an advanced computational method for the prediction of the responses in the frequency domain of general linear dissipative structural-acoustic and fluid-structure systems, in the low-and medium-frequency domains and this includes uncertainty quantification. The system under consideration is constituted of a deformable dissipative structure that is coupled with an internal dissipative acoustic fluid. This includes wall acoustic impedances and it is surrounded by an infinite acoustic fluid. The system is submitted to given internal and external acoustic sources and to the prescribed mechanical forces. An efficient reduced-order computational model is constructed by using a finite element discretization for the structure and an internal acoustic fluid. The external acoustic fluid is treated by using an appropriate boundary element method in the frequency domain. All the required modeling aspects for the analysis of the medium-frequency domain have been introduced namely, a viscoelastic behavior for the structure, an appropriate dissipative model for the internal acoustic fluid that includes wall acoustic impedance and a model of uncertainty in particular for the modeling errors. This advanced computational formulation, corresponding to new extensions and complements with respect to the state-of-the-art are well adapted for the development of a new generation of software, in particular for parallel computers.

  • Recently, Various structural systems for skyscrapers are studied as structures are more higher. The mega frame system of all, which is the structural system developed recently, are considered as a suitable structural system for skyscrapers. This structural system has sufficient stiffness for the lateral forces with mega-columns which consist of many columns and mega-girders which consist of girders with large stiffness or trusses. But there is no efficient analysis method and a design method for it. Therefore, an efficient analytical model, which has only DOFs selected by the user using the matrix condensation technique, is proposed in this study to obtain accurate results in significantly reduced computational time.

  • I-BUILDS is the building design expert system conceptually modeled for synthesizing the conventional CAD programs (BUILDS; an integrated BUILding Desing System) and the knowledge base into an unified system. As a part of the efforts to build this system, this paper presents the conceptual model by which the data items generated by inference are transformed into a formatted input file to be used for several BUILDS subsystems, each of which is assigned to have various computational capabilities and to perform specialized task.

  • The present study addresses a computational work of the weak shock wave propagatings inside a silencer system of automobile exhaust pipe. Four different types of the silencer systems and the initial shock wave Mach number $M_s$ of $1.01\sim1.30$ are applied to investigate their effects on the noise reduction and the flow field in a silencer system. The results obtained from the present computational work are compared with the experimental results. The second order total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is employed to solve the two dimensional, compressible, unsteady, Euler equations. The present computational results predict the experimental results with a quite good accuracy. Of the four silencer systems applied, the most desirable silencer system to reduce the peak pressure at the exit of the exhaust pipe is discussed.

  • This paper presents an expert system approach to solve preliminary bridge design problems. The system employs a forward chaining inference strategy to 1) choose the appropriate superstructure types and construction methods and 2) use the solutions chosen in 1) to determine a list of ranked alternatives. The basic information used in the selection is collected from various sources. Due to the uncertainties presented in the information collected, Fuzzy sets are used to handle these uncertainties in the system. Finally to approve this system some applications are made to select superstructure types and construction methods of them.
