  • Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. Seismic evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. Nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) is the most rigorous procedure to compute seismic performance among various inelastic analysis methods. But nonlinear analysis procedures necessitate more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures. This paper presents a nonlinear direct spectrum method(NDSM) to evaluate seismic performance of structures, without iterative computations, given by the structural initial elastic period and yield strength from the pushover analysis, especially for MDF(multi degree of freedom) system. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the accuracy and reliability of this method from a point of view of various earthquakes and structure parameters.

  • The general method of structural analysis for building structures has been based upon the assumption that all dead loads are imposed on a building simultaneously throughout the entire structure. In reality, buildings are built floor by floor or a few floors at a time. The construction dead load is applied gradually onto the structure as the structure is being erected. The prevailing commercial software for structural analysis used to date have resulted in the representation of inaccurate structural behaviors. The actual construction sequence and the loading of the structure ere not properly represented in the analysis. This paper identifies the source of the errors and develops the algorithm to account for the differential column shortening due to construction dead load based upon a given construction sequence

  • Nonlinear analysis of mixed structures is carried out by utilizing contact elements of a general finite element analysis computer program(ABAQUS). The present analysis focuses on the enhancing behaviors of mixed structure's connection type. Main 2 issues are related with discontinuity which reduce the stiffness of structure and proposing enhanced connection type. To validate the present study approaching 2 way, analytic one and experimental test.

  • One of the primary factors like plate structure In ship is redundancy structure that is comparable with ocean structure and frame structure. The more component material becomes buckling collapsed locally the less structure stiffness becomes accordingly. As a result, by increasing the load distribution of any other subsidiary structure continually component member collapses, therefore the structure could be in danger of collapse. So, in order to interpret this phenomenon precisely, the study on boundary condition of the ship's Plate and post-buckling analysis must be considered. In this study, the rectangular plate is compressed by the in-plane load. Buckling & Ultimate strength characteristics we applied to be the elasto-plasticity large deformation by F.E.M. On this basis, elasto-plasticity of the plain plate are investigated. This study proved elasto-plasticity behaviour of tile ship's plate In accordance with boundary condition based on the series analysis In case of the compressive load operation.

  • Three-dimensional description of building structure taking into consideration soil-structure interaction is a very complex problem and solution of this problem is often obtained by using finite element method. However, this method takes a significant amount of computational time and memory. Therefore, an efficient computational model based on subdivision of the structure into building elements such as wall and floor slab elements, plane and three-dimensional joints and lintels, that could provide accurate results with significantly reduced computational time, is proposed in this study for the analysis three-dimensional structures subjected to dynamic load. The examples prove the efficiency and the computing possibilities of the model.

  • This study presents the application of multi-level substructuring for the effective nonlinear analysis of coupled wall structures. Also, the transition elements with 8 or 12 d. o. f, 5-node plane stress elements and concrete nonlinear model are considered as the basic finite elements of substructuring. In particular, the concept of localized nonlinearity is considered for the probable nonlinear zones of the structure, and the effective bottom-up and top-down process are presented through connectivity trees. The nonlinear analysis based on localized nonlinearity and multi-level substructuring, compared with the complete nonlinear analysis of the structure, gives the greater saving effects in computational efforts and cost.

  • This paper suggests new analysis algorithm for tile dynamic response of three dimensional structure which is frequently found in pipe line system of plant by the combination of the transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM) and Newmark method. Presented analysis algorithm for dynamic response can improve the computational accuracy remarkably owing to advantages of tile TSCM in comparison of transfer matrix method(TMM). Analysis system was modeled as a lumped mass system in this mettled. The analysis algorithm for dynamic response was formulated for the three dimensional structure. The validity of the this method is demonstrated through the results of numerical experiment for simple computational model by the TSCM and TMM.

  • This paper presents an efficient method to analyze noise and vibration of marine diesel engines mounted on flexible hull structure. The analysis model should in general include the hull structure, leading to lots of computational efforts. To minimize the computational efforts, in this paper, the transfer synthesis utilizing the receptance at the mounting points is proposed. The procedure is then verified by comparing the results with those from the full model calculation. The effects of flexible hull structure on the acoustic power from engine block are finally investigated. It is found that the effect of the hull is significant when the receptance of hull structure is similar to or greater than that of mount or engine block.

  • The blast load is caused by gas or bomb explosions. In this study blast load was simulated using the computer code CONWEP and nonlinear analysis was performed on three-story steel moment frames. It was observed from the analysis results that the response of the structures varied depending on the opening area and the explosive weight.

  • This study outlines the analysis of toggle system and the vibration control performance when the toggle-rotational inertia damper system was applied to a structure. Numerical analysis shows that the relative displacement of the structure can be amplified by amplification mechanism of the toggle system and the capacity of the damper can be reduced without the loss of vibration control performance. It is also observed that vibration control effects is caused by the increase of equivalent mass due to the rotational inertia of damper.
