This experiment was carried out to find out the effectiveness of soil cement stabilization about the Song-I in Cheju province. The results are summarized as follows; 1.The increasing ratio of unconfined compressive strength according to the increment of cement content was markedly low compared with the weathered granite soil, so the effect of stabilization was low. 2.The moisture content of the sample of Song-I indicates the maximum unconfined compressive strength showed at the 5% or so of dry side than the optimum moisture content and the change of the unconfined compressive strength according to the change of moisture content was not sensitive compared with the weathered granite soil. 3.Generally the primary strength of curing age within 7 days of the sulfate resisting cement was low compared with the normal portland cement and the strength of 28 curing days showed a similar tendency, especially in case of Song-I, and it seemed that the sulfate resisting cement was a little more effective than the normal portland cement. 4.As the unconfined compressive strength of grain size controlled Song-I was low compared with the weathered granite soil, so the rate of weight loss by the durability test was great, therefore it was thought that the durability was weak.
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of inorganic pigments on the physical properties of cement mortar. For this purpose, the compressive strength and absorption test were carried out on cement mortar imxed with inorganic pigments by changing the proportion of cement mortar, water-cement ratio, and ratio of pigment. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: the compressive strength of colored mortar rapidely increased in red and yellow mortar, as the mix ratio of pigment increased. In case of green and black mortar, however, the compressive strength decresed as the mix ratio incresed. In case of red and yellow mortar, the absorption of colored mortar increased as the mixing ratio increased, if the mean particle diameter of the pigment is small. In case of green and black mortar, the absorption ratio decreased as the mix ratio increased. After investigating the overall physical properties of colored mortar, it was confirmed that the proper mix ratio of pigment securing the properties of colored mortar was below 6% of the weight of the cement to be used.
This paper presents procedure and prediction method of internal and external stabilities when designing D.C.M, with main factors to be considered, such as chemical reaction of additive, physical properties of stabilized body and mixing strength. Results show that through case studies, a design unconfined compressive strength of stabilized body (hereafter referred to as 'compressive strength') directly depends on the quantity of cement, which is decided by laboratory test, and the compressive strength enormously affects internal and external stabilities. So laboratory mixing test to obtain the compressive strength for design allowable stress should be given careful considerations.
In this study, the temperature history and compressive strength of the concretes according to the type of cement were measured and analyzed in comparison as part of the experiment on the material mixing side to reduce the hydration heat crack of the mat foundation constructed with mass concrete. As a result, the peak temperature and maximum temperature reach time of concrete using high rapid cement were shown to be similar to that of semi rapid cement. In particular, in compressive strength after three days, semi rapid cement was measured higher than that of concrete using high rapid cement. Therefore, if semi rapid cement is used in accordance with the site conditions, it is deemed possible to shorten the air due to reduction of temperature cracks and improvement of initial strength.
Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of high plasticity clayey soil mixed with 5 and 10 % of Portland cement and four chemical agents such as sodium hexametaphosphate, aluminum sulfate, sodium carbonate, and sodium silicate with 0, 5, 10, and 20% concentrations was comparatively evaluated. The individual and combined effects of the cement and chemical agents on the UCS of the soil mixture were investigated. The strength of the soil-cement mixture generally increases with increasing the cement content. However, if the chemical agent is added to the mixture, the strength of the cement-chemical agent-soil mixture tends to vary depending on the type and the amount of the chemical agent. At low concentrations of 5% of aluminum sulfate and 5% and 10% of sodium carbonate, the average UCS of the cement-chemical agent-soil mixture slightly increased compared to pure clay due to increasing the flocculation of the clay in the mixture. However, at high concentrations (20%) of all chemical agents, the UCS significantly decreased compared to the pure clay and clay-cement mixtures. In the case of high cement content, the rate of UCS reduction is the highest among all cement-chemical agent-soil mixtures, which is more than three times higher in comparison to the soil-chemical agent mixtures without cement. Therefore, in the mixture with high cement (> 10%), the reduction of the USC is very sensitive when the chemical agent is added.
The object of this study is to define the characteristics of high performance concrete with varing compressive strength of concrete and curing temperature. The major test variables are 1) high strength concrete(500kg/$cm^2$) and ordinary strength concrete(240kg/$cm^2$) compressive strength, 2) curing temperature and condition, 3) concrete curing age, 4) three types of cement. From the test results were shown that curing temperature and curing conditions were also very effective for high strength concrete and ordinary strength concrete, and concrete were largely effected by cement type and temperature during the hydration reaction process. This paper describes the effect of curing temperature for strength and characteristics of high performance concrete.
NDT(Non-Destructive Testing Evaluation) using electromagnetic(EM) properties can be used for evaluation of physical performance in cement-based materials. In this study, a technique for strength evaluation in cement mortar is proposed through the measured EM properties(conductivity and dielectric constant). For this research, cement mortar specimens with 5 W/C ratios are made for evaluation of compressive strength and they are also utilized for tests of EM properties in the range of $0.2{\sim}20GHz$ frequency considering exposure condition and curing period. The averaged conductivity and dielectric constant in $5{\sim}20GHz$ frequency are reduced to $83{\sim}93%$ and $81{\sim}87%$, respectively with increasing water to cement ratios. Through the linear regression analysis, relationships between EM properties and results from the compressive strength are obtained, which shows higher correlated factor($0.93{\sim}0.94$) in the specimens exposed to room condition. The gradients in dielectric constant for strength results is measured to be higher than those in conductivity by $3.9{\sim}5.1$ times. The results from dielectric constant in room condition shows the most efficient relation for evaluation of strength.
The mechanical characteristics and compressibility of Light-Weighted Foam Soil (LWFS) are investigated. LWFS is composed of the dredged soil from offshore, cement and foam to reduce the unit-weight and increase compressive strength. For this purpose, the unconfined compression tests and triaxial compression tests are carried out on the prepared specimens of LWFS with various conditions such as initial water contents, cement contents, and confining stresses. The test results of LWFS indicated that the stress-strain relationship and the compressive strength are strongly influenced by the cement contents rather than the intial water contents of the dredged soils. In this study, the normalized factor considering the ratio of initial water contents, cement contents, and foam contents is suggested to evaluate the relationship between compressive strength and normalized factor.
