Clinical case reports and research regarding the mental spines and their associated structures create a detailed picture of the floor of the mouth for assessment during clinical treatment. This compilation of information covers the mental spines, the attached geniohyoid and genioglossus muscles, the lingual foramina, and the veins and arteries of the jaw and floor of the mouth. It is important to consider the variations in the mental spines for oral and maxillofacial treatment involving the mandible. Differences in anatomy of the mental spine, including their number, location, and size, can impact diagnosis and treatment approaches.
A comprehensive fractionation technique was applied to a set of water samples obtained along drinking water treatment process with ozonation and biological activated carbon (BAC) process to obtain detailed profiles of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and to evaluate the haloacetic acid (HAA) formation potentials of these DOM fractions. The results indicated that coagulation-sedimentation-sand filtration treatment showed limited ability to remove hydrophilic fraction (28%), while removal of hydrophobic and transphilic fraction were 57% and 40%, respectively. And ozonation and BAC treatment showed limited ability to remove hydrophobic fractions (6%), while removal of hydrophilic and transphilic fractions were 25% and 18%. The haloacetic acid formation potential (HAAFP)/dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of hydrophilic fraction was the highest along the treatment train and HAAFP/DOC of hydrophilic fraction was higher than hydrophobic and transphilic fraction as 23%~30%, because of better removal for hydrophobic fraction both in concentration and reactivity.
Background: Breast cancer is a treatable disease, but some women reject conventional treatment in favor of unproven "alternative therapies," which may have serious implications for their survival. Therefore, a process is needed to lead them to more appropriate treatment choices. Case presentation: Here, we present the case of a 51-year-old Korean female diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer (stage IIB, T2N1M0) in Nov. 2015. She refused a standard surgical resection together with chemotherapy and opted instead for moxibustion by nonmedical personnel. Consequently, her preference for alternative therapy without conventional treatment exacerbated her disease. Just a little over a year later, integrative cancer treatment, including chemotherapy based on histological founding, and complementary treatment, comprised of acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine, were administered for 5 months. Finally, she successfully underwent modified radical mastectomy showing a pathological complete response. She received only adjuvant chemotherapy without any alternative medicine afterwards, and she maintained a good status without recurrence. Conclusion: In the case of breast cancer patients who are resistant to surgery and chemotherapy, integrative therapy considering adverse effects from conventional treatment should be preferred to bitter opposition to alternative medicine.
Brachytherapy, along with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), is an essential and effective radiation treatment process. In brachytherapy, in contrast to EBRT, the radiation source is radioisotopes. Because these isotopes can be positioned inside or near the tumor, it is possible to protect other organs around the tumor while delivering an extremely high-dose of treatment to the tumor. Brachytherapy has a long history of more than 100 years. In the early 1900s, the radioisotopes used for brachytherapy were only radium or radon isotopes extracted from nature. Over time, however, various radioisotopes have been artificially produced. As radioisotopes have high radioactivity and miniature size, the application of brachytherapy has expanded to high-dose-rate brachytherapy. Recently, advanced treatment techniques used in EBRT, such as image guidance and intensity modulation techniques, have been applied to brachytherapy. Three-dimensional images, such as ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography are used for accurate delineation of treatment targets and normal organs. Intensity-modulated brachytherapy is anticipated to be performed in the near future, and it is anticipated that the treatment outcomes of applicable cancers will be greatly improved by this treatment's excellent dose delivery characteristics.
Objective : The researcher participated in the visiting treatment project organized by OO City in 2020 and showed the advantages of visiting Korean Medicine, so I would like to report it. Methods : A comprehensive Korean Medicine intervention method was performed for each symptom, and changes in basic physical strength were observed through vital signs, NRS, Single Leg Stance (SLS), and Chair Stand Test (CST) tests. Results : It can be seen that the NRS level, a pain scale for chronic pain, generally decreased at the last treatment compared to the beginning of treatment. Satisfaction with Project Information (PI) was relatively low at 3.20±1.30, but Ease of Participation (EoP), Intention to Participate Again (IPA), Expansion of Project (ExP), and Overall Satisfaction (OS) were high at 5.00±0.00. Conclusions : Summarizing the advantages of visiting Korean Medicine is that the treatment satisfaction for chronic pain is high, the patient's satisfaction is high, the treatment tool is easy to carry, and various visiting treatment services can be implemented.
1. Introduction Community medicine with the concept of comprehensive medical care and an ideal medical care delivery system not only for an individual or family but for the whole community has emerged. In April 1970, the Presbyterian Medical Center started a hospital based community health service project in order to improve the health of the people in rural areas. Prior to commencing a comprehensive medical care system, a family survey was needed. The major objective of this survey was to obtain information concerning the people and their environment so as to be able to plan and implement a comprehensive medical care program in Soyang-Myun. 2. Survey Method An interview using a family record form was carried out for each household. This family record form was designed to get information about demography, family planning, environmental sanitation and vital statistics. Prior to beginning, the members of the survey team were trained in interviewing techniques for three days. The team consisted of a public health nurse, four nurse-aides, a sanitarian and four health extension workers who are working in our project, The survey was carried out during the period November 1971 to March 1972. 3. Upper canine is described as 'cornerstone' of maxilla, and its importance is implicated by long root and good alveolar support. The incidence of impaction of upper canine is the second most frequent next to the third molar because it takes a long period of time to develop, and has a complicated path of eruption, and erupts lately. Generally, the patient who has a palatally impacted canine visit the clinic primarily due to a missing of canine after 12-13 years old. Palatally impacted canine is different from labially impacted canine in its cause and treatment process. It is due to malposition or anomalous lateral incisor rather than arch length deficiency. Once the impaction is identified, the first stage of the treatment is to localiz the lesion by radiographic examinations or others and according to severity, orthodontic traction, or transplantation should be considered, and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan of malocclusion should be estsblished. Properly managed impacted canine can provide funtion and esthetic through proper diagnosis and treatment of extraction of canine is not indicated.

Treatment of mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia (MCPH) has been described and explored in the literature. This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the surgical and non-surgical treatment options for MCPH in pediatric and adult populations. Three databases were searched for treatment of MCPH patients (MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science). Two reviewers selected case reports and case series based on titles and abstracts. Finally, 55 studies reporting a total of 127 cases were included for qualitative synthesis and data extraction. The mean age at symptom onset was 15.6 years, while the mean age at diagnosis was 23.5 years. Of the included cases, 83.7% were male, and the condition was bilateral in more than 81% of the cases. Coronoidectomy was performed in 82.7% of the included cases, while coronoidotomy was performed in 3.9% of the cases. In 85.0% of the surgically treated cases, the approach was intraoral. The mean maximal intraoperative mouth opening was 38.1 mm compared with 16.5 mm at diagnosis. The mean maximal postoperative mouth opening was 35.3 mm, and the mean follow-up period was 16.3 months. Maximum mouth opening was achieved intraoperatively, and non-surgical treatment after surgery aims to reduce the risk of relapse. Additional research with a higher level of evidence is necessary to confirm these findings.
The butterfly vertebra is a rare congenital anomaly of the spine, which arises from an asymmetric fusion defect in the embryonic vertebral column. This report delineates an integrative Korean medicine treatment administered to two patients who presented with low back pain associated with asymptomatic butterfly vertebrae. The patients received comprehensive treatment comprising acupuncture, Chuna therapy, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping therapy. The efficacy of the treatments was assessed utilizing diverse parameters, including a numerical rating scale, range of motion of the lumbar spine, Oswestry Disability Index, EuroQoL 5-Dimension 5-Level, and patient global impression of change. After the treatment, a notable improvement was noted in the evaluated indicators. These positive outcomes suggest that integrative Korean medicine treatment is suitable for patients experiencing low back pain associated with asymptomatic butterfly vertebrae.
The most critical aspect of full-arch prosthodontic treatment is evaluating whether the patient's vertical occlusal dimension is appropriate, and if necessary, restoring it through increasing vertical dimension. If the vertical occlusal dimension is too low, it can lead to reduced chewing efficiency, as well as not only aesthetic concerns but also potential issues like hyperactivity of muscles and posterior displacement of the mandible. This report is about the patient dissatisfied with pronunciation and aesthetics due to an inappropriate vertical occlusal dimension resulting from prior prosthetic interventions, underwent full-arch prosthodontic restoration treatment. Through the utilization of digital diagnostic apparatus, a comprehensive evaluation was undertaken for patient's vertical occlusal dimension, occlusal plane orientation, and the condition of prosthetic restorations. Through 3D facial scanning, the facial landmarks were discerned, and subsequently, the new occlusal plane was established. This provided the foundation for a digitally guided diagnostic wax-up. An elevation of 5 mm from the incisor was determined. Comprehensive dental rehabilitation was then executed for all remaining teeth, excluding the maxillary four incisors. The treatment protocol followed a systematic approach by initially creating implant-supported restorations on both sides of the dental arch to establish a stable occlusal contact. Subsequently, prosthetic restorations for the natural dentition were generated. Diagnostic and treatment planning were established through the utilization of facial scanning. This subsequently led to a reduction in treatment complexity and an expedited treatment timeline.
