The self-consistent simulation based on the drift-diffusion approximation with anisotropic transport coefficients was performed. The RHCP-wave propagation was observed in MICP and this wave was refracted toward the high-density region. The calculated impedance seen from the antenna terminal shows that resistance component of MICP is a higher than that of ordinary ICP. Because of a higher resistance, the power transfer efficiency was improved to 95%. This property is practically important for large-size, low-pressure plasma sources because high resistance corresponds to high power-transfer efficiency and stable impedance matching characteristics.

We investigated the malfunction and destruction characteristics of microcontroller devices under high power electromagnetic(HPEM) wave by magnetron. HPEM was rated at a microwave output of 0 to 1,000 W, at a frequency of 2,450${\pm}$50 MHz and was radiated from the open-ended standard rectangular waveguide(WR-340) to free space. The influence of different reset-, clock-, data-, and power supply-line lengths has been tested. The variation of the line length was done with flat cables. The susceptibility of the tested microcontroller devices was in general much influenced by clock-, reset-, and power supply-line length, little influenced by data-line length. Further the line length was increased, the malfunction threshold was decreased as expected, because more energy couples to the devices. The surfaces of the destroyed microcontroller devices were removed and the chip conditions were investigated with microscope. The microscopic analysis of the damaged devices showed component and bondwire destructions such as breakthroughs and melting due to thermal effects. The obtained results are expected to provide fundamental data for interpreting the combined mechanism of microcontroller devices in an intentional microwave environment.

Computational results from Navier-Stokes equations are presented for the Stokes-wave/flat-plate boundary-layer and wake for small wave steepness(Ak=0.01), including exact and approximate treatments of the viscous free-surface boundary conditions. The macro-scale flow indicate that the variations of the external-flow pressure gradients cause acceleration or deceleration of the streamwise velocity component and alternating direction of the cross flow. Remarkably, the wake displays a greater response, i.e., a bias with regard to favorable as compared to adverse pressure gradients. The micro-scale flow indicates that the free-surface boundary conditions have a profound influence over the boundary layer and near/intermediate wake. Order-of-magnitude estimates are conformed to the computational results. And appreciable errors are introduced through approximations to the free-surface boundary conditions.

We usually divide the noise of exhaust system into pulsation noise and flow noise. Pulsation noise is the shock wave to occur when the burning gas of low pressure emits and include harmonic having basic frequency as the exhaust cycle of engine. Flow noise is the noise that is produced when gas flow emits into the atmosphere through the pipe and has the character of frequency like pink noise which has the high level of high frequency component. A muffler is divided into reflective type and absorptive type. We usually use the muffler compounding the property of them. In this study, it is the case of transfer matrix method that a muffler is compounded to analyze the elements of each section according to sound wave's proceed direction. But we use simple model. So, we use finite element method that takes short time to analyze. Acoustic analysis gives us transfer matrix to use FEA of SYSNOISE and we use STAR-CD for fluid analysis. We made database that is based on analytical results about the muffler of expansion type, extended type, offset type, reverse type, and perforated type and developed the muffler design system to perform work efficiently.
Optical fiber sensors have been proven that they have the potential to detect high-frequency ultrasonic signals, in structural health monitoring field which generally refers to acoustic emission signals from active structural damages and guided waves excited by ultrasonic actuators and propagating in waveguide. In this work, the sensing properties of optical fiber sensors based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer were investigated in the metal plate. Analytical formulas were conducted first to explore the parameters affecting its sensing performances. Due to the simple and definable frequency component, the Lamb wave excited by the piezoelectric wafer was employed to study the sensitivity of the proposed optical fiber sensors with respect to the frequency, rather than the acoustic emission signals. In the experiments, according to above investigations, spiral shape optical fiber sensors with different size were selected to increase their sensitivity. Lamb waves were excited by a circular piezoelectric wafer, while another piezoelectric wafer was used to compare their voltage responses. Furthermore, by changing the excitation frequency, the tuning frequency characteristic of the proposed optical fiber sensor was also investigated experimentally.

In this paper, we report on the waveguide-to-microstrip transition with an inline structure for the millimeter band. The waveguide-to-microstrip transition comprises a probe, an inductive line, a ${\lambda}/4$ impedance transformer, and a 50-ohm microstrip line. For the transition design, we optimized the characteristic impedances and lengths of the component parts. The fabricated transition exhibits an insertion loss of 2.1 dB and an input/output return loss of below 13 dB at a millimeter band frequency of 94 GHz.
The cytoplasmic FMR1-interacting protein family (CYFIP1 and CYFIP2) are evolutionarily conserved proteins originally identified as binding partners of the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP), a messenger RNA (mRNA)-binding protein whose loss causes the fragile X syndrome. Moreover, CYFIP is a key component of the heteropentameric WAVE regulatory complex (WRC), a critical regulator of neuronal actin dynamics. Therefore, CYFIP may play key roles in regulating both mRNA translation and actin polymerization, which are critically involved in proper neuronal development and function. Nevertheless, compared to CYFIP1, neuronal function and dysfunction of CYFIP2 remain largely unknown, possibly due to the relatively less well established association between CYFIP2 and brain disorders. Despite high amino acid sequence homology between CYFIP1 and CYFIP2, several in vitro and animal model studies have suggested that CYFIP2 has some unique neuronal functions distinct from those of CYFIP1. Furthermore, recent whole-exome sequencing studies identified de novo hot spot variants of CYFIP2 in patients with early infantile epileptic encephalopathy (EIEE), clearly implicating CYFIP2 dysfunction in neurological disorders. In this review, we highlight these recent investigations into the neuronal function and dysfunction of CYFIP2, and also discuss several key questions remaining about this intriguing neuronal protein.

We examined the mechanism of generation of higher harmonics by theoretically analyzing the frequency characteristics of a narrow-band surface wave generated by a laser beam with line-arrayed slit masks. We experimentally analyzed the effects of slit opening width and laser intensity on the acoustic nonlinearity of aluminum 6061-T6 alloy by using single-slit and line-arrayed slit masks. The magnitude of the harmonic wave depended on the slit opening width. In our experiment, we generated a 1.75-MHz surface wave by using an arrayed slit with intervals of 1.67 mm. The magnitude of the second harmonic component decreased about by 80% when the slit opening width was increased from 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm. In addition, the relationship between the magnitudes of the fundamental and the second harmonic wave showed good linearity, which agreed well with the typical behavior of acoustic nonlinearity.
The crustal structure of Korean Peninsula is investigated by analyzing phase velocity dispersion data of Rayleigh wave. Earthquakes recorded by three component seismographs during 1999 - 2004 in South Korea are used in this study. The fundamental mode signals of Rayleigh waves are obtained from vertical components of seismograms by multiple filter technique method and phase match filter method. Velocity dispersion curves of surface waves for 14 propagation paths on the great circle are computed from the fundamental mode signals on the great circle path by two-station method. Treating the shear velocity of each layer as an independent parameter, phase velocities of Rayleigh wave are inverted. The result models are regarded as average structure for surface wave propagation paths respectively. All the results can be explained by an earth model of the Korean Peninsula comprising crust of shear-wave velocity increasing from 2.8 to 3.25 km/sec from top to 33 km depth and uppermost mantle of shear-wave velocity between 4.55 and 4.67 km/sec.
A method to quickly estimate broadband moment magnitudes (Mwp) to warn regional and teleseismic tsunamigenic earthquakes is tested for application of the method to the different seismic observation environment. In this study, the Mwp is calculated by integrating far-field P-wave or pP-wave of vertical component of displacement seismograms in time domain from earthquakes, having magnitude greater than 5.0 and occurred in and around the Korean peninsula from 2000 to 2006. We carefully set up the size of the time window for the computations to exclude S wave phases and other phases following after the P wave phase. The P wave velocities and the densities from the averaged Korean crustal model are used in the computations. Instrumental correction was performed to remove dependency on the seismograph. The Mwp after the instrumental correction is about 0.1 greater than the Mwp before the correction. The comparison of our results to the those of foreign agencies such as JMA and Havard CMT catalogues shows a higher degree of similarity. Thus our results provide an effective tool to estimate the earthquake size, as well as to issue the necessary information to a tsunami warning system when the effective earthquake occurs around the peninsula.
