PLM 입문을 위한 교육과정 개발 (Developing an Introductory Training Course to PLM)

  • Product Life cycle Management (PLM) is an indispensable tool for manufactures to develop competitive products in an efficient way. This enlarges the number of participants for product development who should understand PLM for their supporting activities. However, burdens for developing example products, maintaining complex PLM systems and training prerequisite skills for engineering tools such as CAD systems prohibit an efficient introductory course to PLM. This paper proposes a comprehensive introductory course to PLM that bases on general product development process. In addition, it enables participants to build their example products with familiar Lego blocks and to construct 3D CAD assembly models by using predefined 3D elements. The PLM system for the course provides an intuitive and simple user environment for participants to specify their parts lists, associated 3D CAD models, and product structure of example products. Experiences on a class of the course show it is a valid and efficient education and training method for the PLM introduction.

Planning Demand- and Legislation-Driven Remanufacturing for a Product Family: A Model for Maximizing Economic and Environmental Potential

  • Remanufacturing used, end-of-life products is a complex problem involving multiple types of products that may share common parts. Recovery targets assigned by market demand and environmental legislation add more difficulty to the problem. Manufacturers now need to achieve specified take-back and recovery rates while fulfilling demands for remanufactured products. To assists in the demand- and legislation-driven remanufacturing of a family of products (i.e., multiple products that share common parts), this paper introduces a bi-objective mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for optimizing remanufacturing. The model identifies optimal remanufacturing plans for a product family, whereby, the remanufacturer can achieve demand and recovery targets more profitably and in an environmentally-friendly manner. The model can also be used to quantify and justify the economic and environmental benefits of a product family from a remanufacturing perspective. A case study is presented for remanufacturing an alternatorfamily of products.

Investigation of the energy efficiency of biotechnical systems in electrotechnological complexes

  • The main task of agro-industrial production is to provide the population with food products for the production of which energy is expended in the form of electricity, technical means, fuels and lubricants, mineral fertilizers, etc. Accordingly, we have developed a concept and general methodological principles for the analysis of ecological and biotechnical systems in animal husbandry, it makes it possible to simulate the influence of various factors on the energy and ecological efficiency of systems, to compare and search for energy-saving modes and technologies. General methodological principles have been developed for the analysis of energy efficiency and environmental safety of agricultural ecological and biotechnical systems, which are based on the definition of the bioenergy efficiency coefficient, the quantitative expression of which is the ratio of energy accumulated in products to the total energy consumption for its production. This makes it possible to model with sufficient accuracy the influence of various factors on the energy and environmental efficiency of the system, to compare and search for energy-saving modes and technologies in order to find and select the most energy efficient ones to increase the energy efficiency of the complex.

  • Complex Products may present more than one type of defects and these defects are not always of equal severity. These defects are classified according to their seriousness and effect on product quality and performance. Demerit systems are very effective systems to monitoring the different types of defects. So, classical demerit control chart used to monitor counts of several different types of defects simultaneously in complex products. S.M. Na et al.(2003) proposed the Demerit-CUSUM for the improvement of the demerit control chart performance and Nembhard, D. A. et al.(2001) and G.Y Cho et al.(2004) developed a Demerit control chart using the EWMA technique and evaluated the performance of the control chart. In this paper, we present an effective method for process control using the Demerit-CUSUM with fast initial response. Moreover, we evaluate exact performance of the Demerit-CUSUM control chart with fast initial response, Demerit-CUSUM and Demerit-EWMA according to changing sample size or parameters.

A Mathematical Model for Converting Conveyor Assembly Line to Cellular Manufacturing

  • This paper proposes a mathematical model for converting conveyor assembly line to cellular manufacturing in complex production environments. Complex production environments refer to the situations with multi-products, variant demand, different batch sizes and the worker abilities varying with work stations and products respectively. The model proposed in this paper aims to determine (1) how many cells should be formatted; (2) how many workers should be assigned in each cell; (3) and how many workers should be rested in shortened conveyor line when a conveyor assembly line should be converted, in order to optimize system performances which are defined as the total throughput time and total labor power. We refer the model to a new production system. Such model can be used as an evaluation tool in the cases of (i) when a company wants to change its production system (usually a belt conveyor line) to a new one (including cell manufacturing); (ii) when a company wants to evaluate the performance of its converted system. Simulation experiments based on the data collected from the previous documents are used to estimate the marginal impact that each factor change has had on the estimated performance improvement resulting from the conversion.

온라인 전력계통 고장 진단 시스템 개발 (On Line Fault Diagnosis in the Large Power System)

  • Recently, power system is getting larger and more complex. When the complex power system has a problem, it is very difficult even for the experts to find out where the problem is and to make a timely decision by operators. There have been many studies on these problems but the results are not good enough for applying to real power system. Therefore, power system operators always had to judge the exact state of power system and be preparative for the problems that can occur later. We developed new methods that can be applied to complex power system by dividing the system into small modules. By using 'module', we can combine small modules together to make complex power systems and the knowledge base that is applied to fault diagnosis system. As a result, compared to previously developed diagnosis products, operation time is shortened and the knowledge base is become simpler and clearer, which made online usage capable. This system can be used as a complementary measurement that helps the operator from making any mistakes.

A Design for Six Sigma: A Robust Tool in Systems Engineering Process

  • While systems engineering has been widely applied to complex system development, some evidences are reported about major budget and schedule overruns in systems engineering applied. On the other hand, many organizations have been deploying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) to build Six Sigma momentums in the area of design and development for their products and processes. To explore the possibility of having a DFSS complement systems engineering process, this process reviews the systems engineering with their categories of effort and DFSS with its methodologies. A comparison of the systems engineering process and DFSS indicates that DFSS can be a complement to systems engineering for delivering higher quality products to customers faster at a lower cost. We suggest a simplified framework of systems engineering process, that is, PADOV which was derived from the generic systems engineering process which has been applied to the development of T-50 advanced supersonic trainer aircraft by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with technical assistance of Lockheed Martin. We demonstrated that each phase of PADOV framework is comprehensively matched to the pertinent categories of systems engineering effort from various standards.

  • Recently, global market competition of iron and steel products is ever increasing due to over-supply from increased number of industries in rapidly growing countries, such as China, Brazil, and Indonesia. To occupy the big market, major industries are trying to develop high quality, high performance steel products via developing a new iron and steel making process. In other words, development of a new and innovative steel plant is a key to cope with the tough situation. Design and development for the life cycle of iron and steel making plant is very much complex and multi-disciplinary. In this paper, Plant Systems Engineering (PSE), a tailored SE process for industrial plant based on ISO/IEC 15288 is used for the design of Continuous Casting Process (CCP) Plant system. The CCP is a crucial process in steel making plant, whose design technology is occupied by the advanced foreign companies. For the sake of increasing engineering capability for the design of CCP, we applied PSE Process for the renovation of the existing CCP Process. Through the study, we were convinced that the applied method can be used for other plant systems, and SE is really the way of thinking, design, and development of modern complex and multi-disciplinary systems where high risk factors are present throughout the whole life cycle.

  • Supply chain management is defined as "an integrative philosophy to manage the total flow of a distribution channel from the supplier to the ultimate user". There are many differences between traditional systems and supply chain management systems, There are so many advantages applying SCM concept in inventory management field from the viewpoint of information sharing. While each firm try to optimize the inventory individually in traditional systems, SCM focus on optimizing the channel-wide-inventory making effort to reduce the inventory interrelatedly, The more complex your network of suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors, the more you are likely to gain operational efficiencies by attending on inventory management. The inventory stockpiles at the various sites, including both incoming materials and finished products, have complex interrelationships. Efficient and effective management of inventory throughout the supply chain significantly improves the ultimate service provided to the customer. The purpose of this thesis is to develop the integrated inventory management system for the control of channel-wide inventory on the intranet by applying SCM concept.

농공단지 활성화를 통한 서천군 지역발전방안 (Regional development through vitalization of agro-industrial complex in seocheongun)

  • The vitalization of Agro-industrial complex could be an alternative to enhance farmers off-farm income and overcome FTA's impacts on the import of agricultural products. However, it is evaluated the governmental policy on the Agro-industrial complex has not been successfully done as expected. The Agro-industrial complex started to be composed in 1984 and the 427 Agro-industrial complex have been composed nationwide by 2011. Meanwhile, three Agro-industrial complex where 61 factories are running have been composed and two Agro-industrial complex are being under construction in Seocheongun as of 2011. It is investigated that there are constraints in the government supporting systems for Agro-industrial complex. They are; Aged and poor infrastructure facilities, Weak marketing competition, Scattered supporting agencies, and Poor loan system, etc. In this respect, the policy of supporting system was suggested and recommended to vitalize Agro-industrial complex in the study. They are; Better loan system, Improving aged facilities, Marketing support, Assisting technology, Suppling labor power, and Forming factory-network, etc.
