This paper presents the theoretical development and qualitative evaluation of a new concept in the mathematical modeling of dynamic structures. We use both test data and analytical approximations to identify the parameters of an incomplete model. The model has the capability of predicting the response of the points of interest on the structure over the frequency range of interest and can be used to predict the changes in natural frequencies and normal modes due to structural changes. The theory was tested by running simulated tests on a relatively simple structure, identifying the parameters of the incomplete model, and using this model to predict the effects on frequency and mode shapes of several mass and stiffness changes. The conditions of the tests were varied by selecting different numbers of points of measurement, varying the frequency range, and by including assumed measurement error. It is recommended that the theoretical development be continued and that applications to more complex structures be carried out in order to develop a better understanding of the limitations and capabilities of the method. A successful, more definitive sevaluation could lead to immediate practical applications.
Damage detection methods based on modal analysis have been widely studied in recent years. However the calculation of mode shapes in real structures can be time consuming and often requires dedicated software programmes. In the present paper the combined application of proper orthogonal decomposition and gapped smoothing method to structural damage detection is presented. The first is used to calculate the dynamic shapes of a damaged structural element using only the time response of the system while the second is used to derive a reference baseline to which compare the data coming from the damaged structure. Experimental verification is provided for a beam case while numerical analyses are conducted on plates. The introduction of a stiffener on a plate is investigated and a method to distinguish its influence from that of a defect is presented. Results highlight that the derivatives of the proper orthogonal modes are more effective damage indices than the modes themselves and that they can be used in damage detection when only data from the damaged structure are available. Furthermore the stiffened plate case shows how the simple use of the curvature is not sufficient when analysing complex components. The combined application of the two techniques provides a possible improvement in damage detection of typical aeronautical structures.
Sea waves induce significant pressures on coastal surfaces, especially on rocky vertical cliffs or breakwater structures (Peregrine 2003). In the present work, this hydrodynamic pressure is considered as the excitation acting on a piezoelectric material sheet, installed on a vertical cliff, and connected to an external electric circuit (on land). The whole hydro/piezo/electric system is modeled in the context of linear wave theory. The piezoelectric elements are assumed to be small plates, possibly of stack configuration, under a specific wiring. They are connected with an external circuit, modeled by a complex impedance, as usually happens in preliminary studies (Liang and Liao 2011). The piezoelectric elements are subjected to thickness-mode vibrations under the influence of incident harmonic water waves. Full, kinematic and dynamic, coupling is implemented along the water-solid interface, using propagation and evanescent modes (Athanassoulis and Belibassakis 1999). For most energetically interesting conditions the long-wave theory is valid, making the effect of evanescent modes negligible, and permitting us to calculate a closed-form solution for the efficiency of the energy harvesting system. It is found that the efficiency is dependent on two dimensionless hydro/piezo/electric parameters, and may become significant (as high as 30 - 50%) for appropriate combinations of parameter values, which, however, corresponds to exotically flexible piezoelectric materials. The existence or the possibility of constructing such kind of materials formulates a question to material scientists.
Design of settlement space is a complicated process while reasonable spatial layout bears great significance on the development and resource allocation of a settlement. The study proposes a weighted L-system generation algorithm based on CA (Cellular Automation) model which tags the spatial attributes of cells through changes in their state during the evolution of CA and thus identifies the spatial growth mode of a settlement. The entrance area of the Caidian Botanical and Animal Garden is used a case study for the model. A design method is proposed which starts from the internal logics of spatial generation, explores possibility of spatial rules and realizes the quantitative analysis and dynamic control of the design process. Taking a top-down approach, the design method takes into account the site information, studies the spatial generation mechanism of settlements and further presents a engine for the generation of multiple layout proposals based on different rules. A optimal solution is acquired using GA (Genetic Algorithm) which generates a settlement spatial layout carrying site information and dynamically linked to the surround environment. The study aims to propose a design method to optimize the spatial layout of the complex settlement system based on parametric generation.

Chemical feature based quantitative pharmacophore models were generated using the HypoGen module implemented in DS2.5. The best hypothesis, Hypo1, which was characterized by the highest correlation coefficient (0.96), the highest cost difference (61.60) and the lowest RMSD (0.74), consisted of one hydrogen bond acceptor, one hydrogen bond donor, one hydrophobic and one ring aromatic. The reliability of Hypo1 was validated on the basis of cost analysis, test set, Fischer's randomization method and GH test method. The validated Hypo1 was used as a 3D search query to identify novel inhibitors. The screened molecules were further refined by employing ADMET, docking studies and visual inspection. Three compounds with novel scaffolds were selected as the most promising candidates for the designing of Mcl-1 antagonists. Finally, a 10 ns molecular dynamics simulation was carried out on the complex of receptor and the retrieved ligand to demonstrate that the binding mode was stable during the MD simulation.
This paper presents a method to detect the fiber property variation of laminated GFRP plates from natural frequency response data. The combined finite element analysis using ABAQUS and the inverse algorithm described in this paper may allow us not only to detect the deteriorated elements from the mirco-mechanical point of view but also to find their numbers, locations, and the extent of damage. To solve the inverse problem using the combined method, this study uses several natural frequencies instead of mode shapes in a structure as the measured data. Several numerical results show that the proposed system is computationally efficient in identifying fiber stiffness degradation for complex structures such as composites with various layup sequences.
For the speed control of motors, the position or speed sensors are necessary to obtain the position information of the rotor. Specially, SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) needs an accurate rotor position data because both the rotor and the stator have a salient pole structure. High functional sensors like resolver or encoder are expensive and have complex connecting lines to the controller so the pure signals are apt to be mixed with noised. In the sight of SRM drives, the high temperature, heavy dust, and the EMI surroundings reduce the reliability of speed and position sensors. Therefore, the speed and position sensorless control algorithms using observer have been accepted widely. In this paper An adaptive sliding observer is described to control the SRM without speed or position sensors. The adaptive sliding observer is set on the basis of variable structure control theory. The sliding surface is constructed by current error terms and this surface guarantees the errors converge to "zero". The stability of observer is affirmed by Lyapunov stability analysis and popov's hyper stability theory.ty theory.
Recently, from general machine parts and automobile parts using carbon steel to a mold, there has been efforts for improving durability and attrition resistance of these parts. Especially, heat treatment with laser which works fast and automatically can be used for the mass production with high quality. Moreover, local heat treatment can be used to handle with complex and precise parts. Accordingly, we analyzed hardening characteristics of carbon steel using the finite element method and compare the experimental results to have more reliability. We also proved the cause of thermal deformation with temperature and stress distribution by heat treatment. After these analysis and experimental, we found that each maximum hardness of the two tests was 728 Hv and 700 Hv, on condition of $1050^{\circ}C$ heating temperature, and 2 mm/sec laser speed. We also found that difference of surface stress-distribution was occurred, and this makes deformation mode up after heat treatment.
This study looked into the trend of expression of animal motifs that appears in modern fashion, and the values embedded in them. As to the research method, empirical analysis was performed on the works presented at the four global collections of Paris, Milan, New York and London from 2001S/S to 2010F/W, as well as a literature review. As a result, animal motifs applied in modern fashion appeared in material groups, such as leather or feather. The first group shows a realistic material feel, with artificial leather or fur, expressed in a transformed complex animal motif, with process skill or various methods of expression. The second group is the case of a single motif or reality, mode, and ion pattern. Printing is a generic expression, but patchwork, collage or bead ornament are also used, and expressed in the various forms of pattern: pattern in a single animal, pattern in different animals, and pattern combining both animal and other shape. The third group is a small decorative ornament, including headset or accessory and makeup, which is transformed in an animal-characterized motif into part of clothing components for expression, or to set the real animal to the stage for a performance. The embedded values were also categorized as natural beauty, sensual female beauty, pleasure, and ornamentation, which could be an endless spiritual source, and a breakthrough that enables us to show a creative and new aesthetic for the modern fashion field.
An efficient analytical method was devised for the accurate L-muscone assay in aqueous samples. It involves solid-phase extraction of L-muscone in adsorption mode using XAD-4 as the sorbent and dichloromethane modified with 10% (v/v) methanol as the eluting solvent. The gas chromatographic analysis of the eluate residue dissolved in toluene on a DB-5MS capillary column provided complete resolution of L-muscone from the co-extracted interferences. The overall method showed excellent linearity ($r^2{\geq}$ 0.9994) in the range of 0.1 to 2.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL with good intra- and inter-day precisions (% RSD = 2.5~7.3) and with high extraction recovery rates ($\geq$ 98.1 %). When the present method was applied to a L-muscone herbal drink product, the within-batch RE (%) in the labeled concentration (1.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL) for the three randomly chosen bottles were -2.4, -1.3 and -3.3 with high precision (% RSD $\leq$ 3.1). The present method is considered to be suitable for quality control evaluation on liquid drinks and other complex formulations fortified with L-muscone.
