This study was performed to assess the consumption of various seasonings (SNG), which are usually omitted from food frequency questionnaire(FFQ), and their contributions to nutrient intake levels. A dietary survey with FFQ , which surveyed the intake of 65 mainly uncooked food items, was conducted for 493 adults over 30 years of age from 373 households in a rural area of Korea. Household consumption of major SNG items-garlic , red pepper powder, fermented soy bean paste, oil, soy sauce , salt, etc- were estimated by a questionnaire completed by the housewives of the survey participants. The daily consumption of SNG items by each subject was determined by 3 methods ; dividing daily household consumption by \circled1 the number of household members. \circled2 the number of household members over 10 years of age and \circled3 the weighted number of houshold members calculated by the ratio of the RDA for energy. All three methods for calculating the daily personal consumption of seasoning gave similar results, which may have been partly due to the homogenity of family age distribution of the households in the study area. Therefore, the results of method \circled1 were used to determine the contribution of SNG to nutrient intake of subjects in this study. Daily intake of all nutrients were significantly increased by including SNG consumption in the measurements as compared to measuring intake by FFQ alone (p0.01). Percentages of total daily nutrient intake from SNG ranged from 2.3% in carbohydrate to 34.4% in fat. Nutrients with higher contributions from SNG were energy (8.4%), fat (34.4%), Fe(20.55) and $\beta$-carotene(17.9%). These results indicate that SNG consumption can contribute significantly to the intake of several nutrients and must be considered in surveys using FFQ.
The purpose of this study was to investigate parent's perception of a middle school foodservice in Masan city, Korea that uses environmentally friendly agricultural products (EFAP). From May 29, 2009 to July 11, 2009, questionnaires were distributed to 350 parents of middle schools located in Masan city. A total of 295 responded and 276 (response rate, 78.9%) were used for the final analysis after excluding improperly completed questionnaires. First, 47.8% of the parents responded that they had participated in the school foodservice operation (receiving food, attending foodservice-related events, working as a meal service aid, evaluating suppliers). Receiving food (53.7%) accounted for the greatest proportion in the participating area. Second, most subjects (83.0%) responded that they were aware of the use of EFAP. Additionally, 96.4% of the subject approved expanding the use of EFAP for all items. Third, their degree of interest in the school foodservice was 3.86, and satisfaction with the school foodservice was 3.94 based on a 5-point Likert scale. The overall satisfaction on the quality of EFAP used in the school foodservice was 3.68 based on a 5-point Likert scale. Fourth, awareness that the school used EFAP in the foodservice by the parents who participated in school foodservice operations was higher than that of parents who did not participate. Satisfaction (4.10) with the school foodservice by parents who participated in school foodservice operations was significantly higher than that (3.79) of parents who did not participate (p < 0.001). In conclusion, parent's participation in school foodservice operations should increase to improve the quality of the school foodservice and improve communication between parents and the school.

The purpose of this study is to build a general principle for the automatic book-classification which can be put to use in library operation, and to present a methodology of the automatic classification for the library. The principle of automatic book classification derived from the analysis of colon classification and facet combinations. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; (1) This study confined the fields of library science and agriculture. (2) This study represent a general principles for the automatic book classification of library science and agriculture. (3) Program flowcharts are designed as a basis of system analysis and program procedure in library science and agriculture. (4) The principles of the automatic classification in library, science is different from that of agriculture. (5) Automatic book classification can be performed by the principle of faceted classification, by inputting the title and subject code into a computer. In addition, the expected value from the automatic book-classification is as follows (1) The prompt and accurate of classification is possible. (2) Though a book is classified in any library, it can have same classification number. (3) The user can retrieve the classification code of a book for which he or she wants to search through dialogue with the computer. To meet the objectives of environmental education, teachers especially have to perceive the importance of environmental education, comprehend various characteristics of teaching/learning methods, and be able to conduct classes by choosing proper teaching/leaming methods in accordance with a specific purpose and educational focus about environmental education. Therefore, it Bs necessary to investigate the current status of Korean environmental education and provide teachers with appropriate environmental teaching/leaming methods. To this end this study aims to examine Korean science teachers'perceptions'on environmental education and the kind of teaching/learning methods which can be utilized in environmental education. Teachers who completed the survey were 135 science teachers from middle and high schools in Seoul, and 126 social science teachers from Kyoungki province. The majors of the science teachers were in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and earth science. Also, there was one teacher who majored in special education. For social science teachers two majors were common, geography and general sociology. After analysis of the data from the surveys the results are as follows. First, science and social science teachers in middle and high school recognized the necessity of environmental education in school education. Second, most teachers had applied environment related topics to their subject of study occasionally, but they mostly concurred that environment related contents should be included in their textbooks. Third, science teachers agreed that field trip, discussion, and the STS approach were the most proper methods for environmental education, and social science teachers agreed that field trips, inquiry, and discussion were the most appropriate methods for a teaching environment. They realized that they should decide good teaching-learning methods appropriate to the objectives and content needed for effective environmental education as they selected different teaching-learning methods according to detailed environmental objectives and contents in their textbooks.
Purpose: The purpose of this study were to develop a respiratory communicable disease prevention program for preschoolers and measure it's effects. Method: The respiratory communicable disease prevention program for preschoolers consisted of texts, cartoons, photographs, discussions, demonstrations, puzzle games, die games, compensation/reinforcement, and token economy which were directed under the systematic design of instruction by Dick %amp; Carey. This study was a quasi experimental study under the nonequivalent control group with pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 45 preschool children who are attending 3 different district nursery schools and they were matched by the age, pretest knowledge, and pretest behavior. The instrument used in this study was criterion referenced test items that were developed by a researcher for evaluating the subject's knowledge, attitude, and behavior about respiratory communicable disease prevention. A pretest was administered a week before treatment. Experimental group Ⅰ was administered by the treatment of respiratory communicable disease prevention program. Experimental group Ⅱ was administered by above program with token economy program. The posttest was conducted on the eighth day. The third test for behavior was completed 15th day. To determine the effect of the program, the data were analyzed by the SAS 6.12 program with Kruskal Wallis test, ANCOVA, ANOVA, Duncan's test and paired t-test. Result: 1) There was a significant difference in knowledge between the experimental groups and control group(F=5.89, P=0.0197). 2) There was a significant difference in attitude between the experimental groups and control group(F=3.29, P=0.0469). 3) There was a non-significant difference in behavior between the experimental groups and control group(F=0.00, P=0.9512). 4) In the experimental groupⅡ, there was highly significant increase in behavior after token economy(t=4.5252, P=0.0005). Conclusion: It was found that the respiratory communicable disease prevention program for preschool children was effective in changing the preschoolers' knowledge and attitude on the respiratory communicable disease prevention, but not enough for changing the preschoolers' behavior. Token economy was improved as an effective and strong method for inducing desirable changes of preschoolers' behavior.
The aim of this study was to compare pain descriptions in common dental patients with those in patients with Temporomandibular disorders(TMDs). The study sample consisted of 104 common dental patients and 74 patients with TMDs, and their chief complaint was pain, Subjects were classified common dental pain group and TMDs pain group, respectively. All the subjects completed Korean Pain Rating Scale(KPRS) on first visit. KPRS contains 90 pain terms, which divided into 20 subclasses in 3 dimensions. Each subclass contains 3-6 pain terms. each patient had chosen only one term from each subclass. If there was no proper term, subject could pass the subclass without completion. Words chosen were categorized into sensory, affective, miscellaneous and total dimension. Thereafter they were processed and analyzed by SPSS/PC+ statistical package program with respect to rank values, scale values, number of words chosen and frequency of each subclass. The obtained results of this study were as follows : 1. Total mean number of words chosen was 7.6. 2. Chronic patients groups with Temporomandibular disorders had chosen more freuently from the subclasses in affective dimension than the patients in acute common dental pain group. 3. Frequency of affective dimension was higher in chronic patients groups with Temporomandibular disorders than that of acute patients group with Temporomandibular disorders. 4. Chronic patients group with Temporomandibular disorders had higher frequency in constrictive pressure pain, traction pressure pain, dull pain and fatigue-related pain terms than acute common dental patients group. 5. Acute patients group with Temporomandibular disorders had higher frequency in traction pressure pain and dull pain terms but had lower frequency in chemical pain, peripheral nerve pain and cold pain terms than acute common dental patients groups. 6. There were high positive correlation between the scale- and rank-value in the pain rating index.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of suicidal risk, meaning in life, and life respect in various ages of patients and identify factors influencing their life respect. Method: The participants were 229 patients in a public hospital who completed questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Fisher's exact test, ANOVA with Duncan post hoc test, and multiple regression. Results: There was a negative correlation between the meaning of life and life respect in the old age group (r=-.23, p=.02) and all subjects (r=-.14, p=.01) after controlling for age. Factors significantly influencing life respect were gender (${\beta}$=0.11, p=.050) and educational status (${\beta}$=-0.17, p=.022), and the multiple regression model explained 16.7% of the variance in all subjects (p<.001). In the early adulthood group, factors significantly influencing the life respect were gender (${\beta}$=0.18, p<.001) and suicidal thoughts (${\beta}$=0.21, p=.028), and the multiple regression model explained 6.8% of variance in all subjects (p=.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that suicidal prevention and educational programs for increasing an appreciation of life should consider subject's characteristics, such as gender and educational status.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the disaster experience (accidents, education etc) and the concern for disaster preparedness of college students. Methods: This research design was a descriptive study. Data were collected from November 1, 2011 to December 30, 2011 and analyzed by the SPSS PASW statistics 18.0 program. Results: There were statistical significances in major (p<.050), grade(p<.001), and a completed disaster class(p<.001) between general characteristics and concern for disaster preparedness. The major disaster events that occurred from 2003 to 2010 in Korea were the 2007 Taean oil spill (85.4%), the 2003 Daegu subway fire (82.7%), and the 2008 Sungnyemun fire (62.9%). The possible disaster events in Korea were hurricanes, floods, fires (including wildfire), and the shutdown of communication lines. Subjects learned about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (18.2%), first aid for bleeding and fractures (17.8%), a fire drill (14.3%), and an escape drill for an earthquake (14.0%). They wanted to learn the fire drill (11.33%), the escape drill for an earthquake (9.7%), a war drill (9.0%), a disaster confrontation drill on the subway (8.6%), and a fire and explosion evacuation drill (8.4%). Half of subjects were not prepared with emergency supplies for disasters because they thought that a disaster would not occur. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop the disaster educational programs according to subject's demands in Korea.
The aim of study was to investigate the effects of 12 forms of Sun-style Tai-Chi for arthritis(TCA) on physical symptom(pain, tenderness, swelling fatigue, and blood pressure), physical function(balance, flexibility, grip strength) and social-psychological health status in osteoarthritis(OA) patients and rheumatoid arthritis(RA) patients. This study was done with one group pretest-posttest design. A total 21 arthritis patients(6 OA patient and 15 RA patient) participated in 60 minute session consisting of warm-up exercise 12-main movement including qigong, and cool-down exercise twice a week for 6weeks. Physiological and social-psychological variables were measured before and after TCA 12 form. The researcher who completed a Tai Chi workshop for exercise leaders in Australia and Seoul taught the Tai Chi movement step by step until the patient felt comfort enough to perform them correctly by themselves during the first 4 weeks. At the last 2 weeks, the subject perform 10-15set of these at a session with traditional music to help patients move in a slow tempo. TCA 12 forms program showed significant improvement in fatigue(p=0.039) of rheumatoid arthritis patient and pain(p=0.006), fatigue(p=0.013), tenderness(p=0.032), flexibility(rt arm up, p=0.014, If arm up, P=0.003), grip strength(rt hand, p=0.002, If hand, P=0.003) of osteoarthritis patients. With assessment by Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale 2 questionnaire(AIMS2), physical component(0.002) and social interaction(0.025) on osteoarthritis patients were significantly improved. Evaluation of the participants about TCA exercise noted that the exercise was fairly easy(23.6%), moderately difficult(57.1%), and fairly difficult(14.3%). Considering the result of this study, TCA exercise program was more effective in pain, tenderness, grip strength, flexibility, and physical and social interaction on osteoarthritis patients than rheumatoid arthritis patients. Tai-Chi for arthritis 12 form was an appropriate intensity exercise for osteoarthritis patients.
To investigate the change of nitric oxide(NO), copper, and zinc in serum on smoking and alcohol ingestion in young adults, this study was performed in a cross-sectional study in 127 healthy men in Korea who had HBsAg(-), HCVAb(-), and no symptomatic liver, heart, gastrointestinal, chronic diseases, and inflammatory sign(lower than 10,000 white blood cell count in CBC). At the men's entry into the study, blood samples were drawn from each subject and immediately centrifuged for analysis of NO, copper, and zinc. Each man completed a questionnaire that provided information on smoking, alcohol intake and present and past medical history NO was analyzed by HPLC(Green et al., 1982), copper and zinc by atomic absorption spectrophotometer with air-acetylene flame and total cholesterol(TC) by Spectrum EPX. Smoking(number of cigarettes per day and pack-year) and alcohol intake was grouped fertile. Copper was adjusted for age and zinc and for age and TC. NO, copper, and zinc on smoking and alcohol ingestion were analyzed in general linear models, respectively. NO, copper and zinc in serum did not show statistical differences between non-smoking and high-smoking group and no-alcohol intake and high-alcohol intake group. This study suggested that copper, zinc, and NO was not. good biological marker for early effect by smoking and alcohol intake in young adults. However, selection bias should be considered in evaluation of this result. A large prospective study will be needed in advance on usefulness of copper, zinc, and NO as a marker for risk factors and early change of atherosclerosis.
