Antecedents and Consequences of Innovation and Business Strategy on Performance and Competitive Advantage of SMEs

  • The study aims to develop concepts originating through empirical research models to build superior competitiveness and optimal performance achievement. Therefore, to bridge these goals, the study addresses several indicators/items as a novelty, namely, entrepreneurship insight factors, market orientation, knowledge-sharing, innovation, managerial capability, product strategy, process and service improvement, resources capability to improve performance and increase competitiveness by empirical model direct, mediating and indirect effect. The total sample in this study is 497 eligible SMEs that partner with go-food in Makassar City. All research samples are the owner or the person in charge of the business; the data collection period is from May to December 2019. Data are collecting using a survey with 64 construct questions, summarized in seven manifest variables. The research method uses quantitative tools, with SMART-PLS as a statistical tool. This study develops sixteen hypotheses; all of the hypotheses are supported both directly, indirectly, and mediated. The study also found that the link based on CCT, RBV, and TAM Theory is the right choice of theories, as the foundation of this study was very reliable and valid. Indeed, all of the grounded methods have implications both in theory and its main application for the business in the online marketplace.

  • Although logistics service quality is considered an essential strategy for success and survival in today's internet environment, there are still a lot of question: what variables determine the extent of logistics service effect, how difficultly do the determinants affecting logistics service effect and how accomplish the decision making in the implementation of inter-organization information system. The purpose of this study is to examine a model to utilize the application and effect of logistics service through e-marketplaces. The results of empirical analysis are mentioned as follows; First, among the interorganization information system factors, four variables(top management support in organization characters, competitive degree in environment characters, relative advantage and information efficiency in innovation characters) have been shown to be primary determinant of the effect of logistics service quality. Second, the type of independent variable used results in a significant difference in the effect of logistics service quality. Third, Korean firms have to pursue the corporate strategy focused on logistics service quality.

Competition among Firms in Digital Convergence era

  • Digital convergence which means the convergence of industry areas related to digital technologies is an important phenomenon in business, which will decide the fates of firms in the near future. The only firms which can create synergy effects from digital convergence are expected to be the winners in the fierce competition of digital convergence era. In our analysis, we examine the strategy of an integrated firm which has businesses in two different industry areas which are related to each other. By using a game theoretical model, we show how the integrated firm can win over two single separated firms which have business in only one industry area each by leveraging the two businesses the integrated firm has. In our welfare analysis, we also show that this convergence may be even beneficial to consumers, which seems counter-intuitive to social concerns about anti-competitive behaviors by integrated firms. Additionally, we study comparison between industry convergence and product convergence.

  • e-Business가 기업의 경쟁력확보에 필수불가결한 요소로 여겨지면서 많은 기업들이 e-Business 에 대한 투자를 늘리고 있으며, 나름대로 e-Business에 대한 비전을 수립하고 있다. 그러나. 이러한 변화에도 불구하고 e-Business 방향성 제시를 위한 방법론이 개발되어 있지 않아, e-Business 도입을 위한 구체적인 계획의 수립이 어려운 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 e-Business를 도입하고자 하는 기업으로 하여금 e-Business 도입 시 우선적으로 고려해야 하는 e-Business 도입영역을 선정하는 방법을 제시하였다.

  • Customer satisfaction level is usually measured in terms of price, qualify, customization, after-sale-service, product variety etc. Each firm sets up a distinctive production/marketing strategy to gain competitive advantage by Prioritizing the customer satisfaction measures. The market differentiation strategy directly results in supply chain performance such as lead time, inventory, customer fill rate and market share. Product proliferation desirable in customization sense often conflicts the economies of scale effect in production side. This paper focuses the relationship between product variety and market share. Specifically, we investigate how introduction of new product affects the current market share, i.e., formation of customer preference and provide some insight into the optimal range of product variety.

국적선사와 외국적선사의 물류서비스 속성과 역량에 관한 비교 연구 (A Comparison Study between Korean and Foreign Shipping Lines on Logistics Service Attributes and Capability)

  • In order to obtain and maintain competitive advantage, under rapidly changing maritime environment, liners should make efforts to reinforce their logistics service capabilities. Most of all, for this, shipping lines should accurately recognize and evaluate their logistics service attributes. In the present research, various logistics service attributes for ocean carriers were selected from previous studies and the observed data for 6 main service attributes were collected through a questionnaire survey to 31 maritime experts. Moreover, shipping lines' relative logistics service capabilities were measured by an additional survey process. The comparative gravity between core evaluation factors were measured by AHP technique and the relative capability levels of 2 Korean liners and 5 foreign shipping companies were assessed by utilizing a fuzzy model. The empirical result presents that Korean liners are superior at customer service capability but inferior at freight rate competitiveness. This research shows that Korean liners are ranked at high position for overall logistics service capabilities and focusing on the differentiation strategy but not on the cost related strategy.

Stochastic Programming for the Optimization of Transportation-Inventory Strategy

  • In today's competitive environment, supply chain management is a major concern for a company. Two of the key issues in supply chain management are transportation and inventory management. To achieve significant savings, companies should integrate these two issues instead of treating them separately. In this paper we develop a framework for modeling stochastic programming in a supply chain that is subject to demand uncertainty. With reasonable assumptions, two stochastic programming models are presented, respectively, including a single-period and a multi-period situations. Our assumptions allow us to capture the stochastic nature of the problem and translate it into a deterministic model. And then, based on the genetic algorithm and stochastic simulation, a solution method is developed to solve the model. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.

  • 국내 기업들은 치열한 국제경쟁력에서 시장의 선도적 위치를 확보하기 위하여 가격 및 품질 우위 전략을 꾸준히 추진하고 있다. 건설산업에서도 건설시장 개방에 따른 해외기업들과의 경쟁 상황에 놓이게 되면서 기업의 경영전략, 방향 및 핵심결정요소들에 대한 연구에 여념이 없으며, 따라서 무엇보다도 기업의 경쟁력 강화가 중요한 우선순위에 오르게 된다. 이러한 기업의 경쟁력 강화를 위하여 많은 기업으로부터 큰 관심을 유도하고 있는 기법이 6시그마(Sigma) 기법이다. 6 시그마 기법의 선행 연구들은 제조업과 서비스업을 대상으로 수행된 것이 대부분이다. 건설업과 관련한 연구는 6시그마의 도입 및 고찰 단계에 머물러 있으며, 실제 도입은 "S건설" 1개사만 도입하여 적용하고 있기 때문에 그 적용 성과에 대하여는 한계를 가질 수밖에 없다. 그렇지만 상기에 언급한 것처럼 시장 환경의 급격한 변화에 따른 국제 경쟁력 확보를 위하여 6시그마 도입은 필수적이라 판단하고, 이에 대한 논리적 타당성의 전개 및 이를 검증하기 위한 설문조사를 통하여 건설깅버의 6시그마 적용 가능성을 확인함으로서 6시그마 도입 적용의 한계성을 극복하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이라고 할 것이다.

New Distribution Strategies of Korean SMEs in Post COVID-19 Pandemic Era: Focusing on the Innovation of Official Distribution Channels

  • Purpose - In this study, we aim to explore new distribution strategies for sustainable growth in the era of the 4th industrial revolution, focusing on SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in Korea, and suggest ways to upgrade the government's official distribution channel to the next level. Design/methodology - First of all, this paper explored the prior research, the current status of sales support for SMEs, and the changes in the distribution industry due to COVID-19 pandemic. Based on Moon (2016)'s ABCD strategic model - Agility, Benchmarking, Convergence, and Dedication, the study then derived directions in which official distribution channels should move and the new distribution strategy for Korean SMEs to secure competitive advantage. Findings - First, in terms of 'Agility', in order to upgrade official distribution channels, which are currently at some competitive disadvantages compared to private distribution companies, we must quickly introduce technologies for the 4th industrial revolution, such as AI, Big Data, etc., and establish precise strategies to strengthen the capabilities of SMEs. Second, in terms of 'Benchmarking', the use of "Chamelezones" has been increasing to enhance the competitiveness of offline stores in line with recent ontact trends. Therefore, official distribution channels should also benchmark such cases, strengthening their competitiveness by utilizing offline spaces more efficiently and effectively. Third, in terms of 'Convergence', in line with the rapidly changing trend of the times, official distribution channels should also promote active partnerships with media commerce, e-commerce and ICT platforms, as well as cooperation with private retailers, and focus on creating synergy effects through them. Finally, from the perspective of 'Dedication', digitalization should be promoted step by step, finding the sector that can accelerate digital among the value chains of official distribution channels, and continuing to discuss how to digitize it realistically. Originality/value - Based on this analysis, we have presented strategies and implications for innovating official distribution channels for SMEs, which will contribute to enhancing the competitive advantage of official distribution channels in the post COVID-19 pandemic era.

동북아 물류거점화를 위한 항만배후부지 구축전략에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on the Distribution Park Strategy for Logistics-Hub in Northeast Asia)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 우리 항만이 동북아 거점항만으로 변신하는데 필요한 항만배후부지전략을 도출하여 거점항만으로의 발전전략의 적합성을 분석하였다. 전략요인으로는 크게 개발정책방향, 개발방법론 및 부지조성전략요인으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석결과에 의하면, 부산항이 동북아 물류중심항만이 되기 위해서는 현재 진행 중인 항만배후부지가 실질적인 부가가치를 창출할 수 있도록 개발되는 것이 매우 중요한 것으로 나타나고 있다.
