  • This paper considers a special case of the two-dimensional bin-packing problem for identical items. The objective of this work is to maximize the space utilization. The main contribution of the paper is to suggest a new heuristic algorithm keeping in view the existing complexity of racking system for the footwear boxes in the compartments of different sizes for a warehouse. The results show that a significant improvement can be obtained. An economic choice of compartments is also estimated using the criteria for maximizing space utilization. A non-linear mathematical model was presented based on the constraints of racking dynamics.

  • The objective of this paper is to introduce the noise reduction characteristics of a double gap system, which is composed of two air-gaps and two partition sheets. The resonance of acoustic modes of an enclosed cavity can be effectively suppressed by installing the double gap system in the cavity. It is revealed from a simple, one-dimensional model that the double gap system is more effective than the single gap system that consists of one air-gap and one partition sheet, in that the former requires a smaller space than the latter. Finally, these theoretical conclusions are verified by comparison experiments using an actually manufactured enclosed cavity, of which the boundary surfaces are made of thick panels that can be assumed as rigid walls.

  • Removal of urea and vitamin B12 was simulated using two pool models with closed loop dialysis, open loop dialysis, and hemodiafiltrations with predilution and postdilulion. It was found that urea removal was limited by dialyzer clearance, however B12 removal was limited both by the resistance between ECF and ICF and by dialyzer clearance. Open loop dialysis was better than closed loop dialysis in terms of dialysate requirement and removal efficiency. Residual renal function plays an important role in removing vitamin B12. Dialysis frequency more than twice/wide does not have great effect on removal efficiency, but has the effect of reducing the difference between maximum and minimum cancentrations during dialysis period.

  • A two compartmented autoclave reactor for the polymerization of low density polyethylene is analyzed with respect to the effects of heat transfer and operation variables. Each compartment being considered as a completely mixed cell, two CSTRs model is proposed. The system shows various multiplicity features of steady state and periodic oscillatory motions. Heat removal efficiency and initiator supplement appear to have significant effect on the conversion of monomer with the temperature properly maintained, which should be taken into account in the reactor design.

  • The pharmacokinetics and relationship between in vitro dissolution and in vivo fraction absorbed were investigated after intravenous(iv) injection of omeprazole(OMZ), oral administration of OMZ capsules and rectal administration of 8 types of suppositories. The plasma concentration of OMZ (C$_{p}$)-time (t) curve after iv. administration fitted a two-compartment open model and the equation which best fitted the pharmacokinetics of OMZ was $C_{p}$ = 13.936 $e^{-8.78t}$+2.973 $e^{-0.716t}$. The bioavailabilities of OMZ in Witepsol H15 base (Supp-2) and PEG 4000 base (Supp-6) suppositories were 40.7% and 33.4%, respectively, which are higher(p<0.001) than 13% of oral administration of capsule. The avoidance fractions of the first-pass metabolism for Supp-2 and Supp-6 suppositiories were 31.8% and 23.4%, respectively, suggesting that the rectal application of OMZ may be a more adequate route of administration than oral one.

  • Train crashes involve complex interaction between deformable bodies in multiple collisions. The purpose of this study is to suggest the effective analytical procedure using hybrid model for the crashworthiness of motorized trailer of high speed train. The hybrid approach, with very short modeling times and reduced computation times to extract the global behaviour and to perform a pre-optimization of the considered structure. Firstly, various types of crash events are investigated and the conditions for numerical simulation are defined. In this paper, the structural crashwonhiness of Korean High Speed Train trailer was examined through FE analysis. Crash analyses on energy absorbing part and safety zone were carried out to determine each section force. Rollover analysis was performed to observe the amount of intrusion in the passenger's area in case of rollover accident.

  • The fundamental theory and technical approach to aid design and development of an automotive air-conditioning system are presented. The evaluation methods for transient cooling load transferred to a passenger compartment and simulation of automotive air-conditioning components are outlined. The structure of the computer program, the experiemntal correlations, and the simulation results are also included. The total cooling load of the white-colored car is reduced upto 5% for that of the black-colored car when the car is running. Using the infrared reflectance glass, we can also obtain 5% reduction of the total cooling load for the common glass.

  • Structure-borne noise is an important aspect to consider during the design and development of a vehicle. In this work. it was desired to identify the primary paths associated with structure-borne noise generated from the engine and front suspension. An experimental source-path-receiver model was used to characterize the system. A variety of primary sources such as engine. tires or exhaust system generate vibrations of the inner surfaces of the passenger compartment of a vehicle which subsequently radiate noise. The source was characterized by the force acting at the engine-to-body interface. and the path was characterized by pressure over force FRF's. The excitation forces were indirectly determined using dynamic stiffness of rubber mount or the system accelerance matrix. Through these analysis, path contribution diagram which is well expressed primary noise path is obtained.

  • We applied the ICA method to separate the ventricle and tissue components and to extract left ventricular input function from the H$_2$$^{15}$ O myocardial PET under the assumption that the elementary activities of ventricular pools and myocardium were spatially independent, and that the mixture of them composed dynamic PET frames. ICA-generated left ventricular input functions were compared with the ROI-generated ones, and also with the invasively derived arterial blood samples. Moreover, the rMBF calculated with the ICA-generated input functions and single compartment model was correlated with the results obtained with the radiolabeled microspheres.

  • Vertically aligned CNTs were grown on Fe-deposited $SiO_2$ substrates using thermal CVD of acetylene gas. The size of Fe particle is controlled by the flow rate of $NH_3$ and pretreatment time, which leads to control the diameter of CNTs. As the diameter of CNTs decreases, the growth rate is enhanced with an inverse dependence of the CNT diameter. The growth rate of CNTs increases linearly as the growth time increases until 30 min but is rapidly decreased over 40 min. We found an inverse relation between the diameter and growth rate of carbon nanotubes. As the diameter of CNTs increases, the compartment layers of bamboo-shaped CNTs appear more frequently. A base-growth model is suitable to explain the dependence of growth rate and structure of CNTs on the diameter size of catalytic particles.
