The movie costume's function and the role can be defined by reflection of the society and the times, character portrayal, conveyance of image, and creation of fashion. Korean movie costumes have been differentiated from 1950s till 1990s in time period and the results of comparison between the times as follow : Movie and fashion hold same period in common so that sense of fashion is naturally contained in the movie costume. This study analyzes gender identity in contemporary fashion intensively based on gender images and costumes appearing in the film . In the society lacking a fixed gender image, this study provides a timely insight into gender identities by analyzing the fashions depicted in the movie. The movie is a true story of the first transgender person working hard to determine his or her own gender identity. As a research method, the theoretical basis of genderless approach was established via literature review. The characteristics of genderless identity were determined by dividing the movie into established and ambiguous gender periods to analyze the comprehensive changes in costumes for comparison. Einer Wagner representing male identity portrays men's fashion whereas Lily Elbe representing female identity depicts women's fashion. While the two different genders find their places in a single body, the confusion creates genderless fashion. By dividing these phases into femininity, masculinity and genderless categories, each costume was analyzed comprehensively, and the images of relatively changing fashion were studied by altering the gender identity. The purpose of the study was to offer basic documents to the textile fashion industry by investigating changes of figures followed by various factors as each other social and cultural environment regardless of the same race. The study conducted a questionnaire survey of Korean women and Korean women in Japan to twenties, forties and sixties. The study enforced measurement from February, 2006 to March, 2006 and from July, 2006 to August, 2006 with R. Martin's Measurement Method of Anthropometry in total 49 measurement items. Also, the study treated statistics of the documents with SPSS WIN 10.0 program. As the result which studied comparison of figures with basic statistics, t-test and more, the study got the following conclusion. Most of Korean women and Korean women residing in Japan have big individual differences in obesity, especially width, thickness, and girth of waist showed the largest variation proving considerable individual difference in waist. In a body measurement comparison, twenties, forties, and sixties of Korean women residing in Japan are higher in heights compare to Korean women, while Korean women have wider and thicker waists than Korean women residing in Japan. In a body difference comparison, categories that showed significant differences are 40's>20's>60's in order and twenties and sixties showed only small difference. In conclusion, Korean women have longer, wider, thicker and smaller waist than Korean woman residing in Japan. When divided by age groups, forties and sixties Korean women are longer in waist, shorter in heights, fatter in weights. Twenties have long waist similar to forties and sixties, but had no significant difference in heights and weights.
This study identified market segments by fashion leadership and appearance interest and compared each group in clothing benefits and makeup benefits pursued as well as makeup behaviors. The data were collected from 20~30 women during September, 2012, and a total of 302 surveys were analyzed. About 46.5% was in their twenties, and more than 39% was students and 35.4% was office workers. Findings were as follows. First, according to fashion leadership and appearance interest, three groups were identified, fashion leader group, appearance interest group, and uninterested group. Second, uninterested group showed the oldest average age among three groups. Fashion leader group showed the higher proportion of students and professional. Third, fashion leader group showed the highest mean score of self-esteem, while uninterested group showed the lowest level. Fourth, fashion leader group pursued attractive body image, social benefit, and individuality for clothing benefits, while uninterested group valued convenience. Fifth, with respect to makeup benefits pursued, fashion leader group presented a high level of esthetic, self-confidence, and functional pursuit, whereas uninterested group showed the opposite. Sixth, respondents tended to depend on internet most as cosmetic information sources, followed by family/friends, and magazine in order. Implications for cosmetic business were provided.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the art world's perspective on popular art and the contact point with pure art and to present the requirements of fashion as a popular art. To analyze the artistic value of fashion, this study analyzed and presented the requirements of art by linking the innate characteristics of fashion premised on mass consumption of popular art. The research method consisted of content analysis focusing on books and papers on art and fashion. A critical perspective on expansion of the artistic field amid the blurred boundaries of art is the basis of a critical comparison between popular art and avant-garde art and a critique of popular art as opposed to value-oriented art. Conversely, as a point of contact with popular art with fine art, art is discussed against the ideological strategy of fine art and the shift in hegemony brought about by erosion of the barrier between art and everyday life. In addition, the non-essentialist perspective contradicts the division theory of popular art. The requirements of fashion as a popular art were analyzed based on the value of self-expression through the aesthetic pursuit of creativity and aesthetic expression, discourse as art, and expansion of modern art from the inessentialist perspective of popular art.
Denim has been one of the most favored clothing item among young people regardless of regional difference. This study compared the styling of women's denim fashion in two Asian metro-cities, Seoul and Beijing, in order to understand how differ the fashion taste of both cities. Data was collected by taking photos of young women who wear denim clothing at the main streets of downtowns or famous shopping areas of both cities from the July of 2004 till the April of 2005. A total of 524 photos(Seoul 242, and Beijing 282) were put into content analysis. Results showed that there were several similarities and differences in denim styling between two cities in terms of the most widely worn denim items and the coordinate items, and the favored colors, silhouette, details of denim pants and the coordinate items. In Seoul, women favored denim look with little detail, fitted silhouette, and in more formal image. A few denim styles prevailed in each season which reflect current denim fashion trends. Meanwhile a wide variety of denim styles were found at Beijing without dominant denim trends, which means Beijing women put more emphasis on personal expression of their fashion taste instead of just following fashion trends.
The purpose of this study was to provide a suggestion for the globalization-focused in fashion marketing area through an analysis of curricula related to fashion marketing of Korean and USA graduate schools. This study analyzed the curricula of 34 Korean graduate schools and 18 USA graduate schools. As a result, it was revealed that the curricula of Korean schools were different from those of USA graduate schools. The average number of the fashion marketing classes of the Korean schools was 10.7, while the average of the USA was 10.4. However, when examined the percentages of fashion marketing classes among total number of classes, the average of Koreans was much lower(16.1%) than Americans(50.3%). It means that the schools of USA has higher percentage of curricula related to fashion marketing than those of Korea. The percentage of USA research method courses was higher than those of Korean. Based on the results, this study suggests that more diverse curricula related to fashion marketing and research methods in Korea need to be developed in order to produce global human resource development in fashion marketing area.
The purpose of this study was to investigate color planning method for apparel fashion de-sign and to present the method of analysis of green color. Theoretical backgrouds of color planning for fashion design were scrutinized by documentary studies Fashion color planning has been developed through 4 steps: analysis of color environment analysis of color psy-chology presentation of coordination appli-cation to fashion design. Green color environment consisted of mar-ket informations and forecast informations The former were collected by color samples which were used for women's apparel of national brands from '93 spring/summer to '96 spring/summer and the latter were analyzed by fashion forecasting books. Green color psy-chology was investigated through the docu-mentary studiess. image of green color and these expressed in fashion were revealed through documentary studies. The results of this study were as follow: 1. 117 green color samples were collected from domestic womens brand. The character-istic of samples were the yellow green in hue and pale light bright in tone. forecast infor-mation was collected through fashion forecasting books from abroad and adaption of forecast information was investigated by mak-ing a comparison forecasting information be-tween market information. In consequence national market colors reflected the forecast information in concurrence with the character-istic colors of national women's apparel. 2. The purpose of this study is : first, to examine factors of fashion show planning and production and to classify types of fashion show planning and production: second, to compare and analyze the factors through a case analysis to defined their differences. For the purpose, data are collected to compare and analyze from literature as well as the interview with fashion show planning and production companies in Korea. The result shows that all the factors are considered on a practical level except security and publicity among 15 factors presented in literature : the purpose of the show, target spectators, product selection, product prices, type of show, size, location, models, time of show, duration, theme, security, budget, and publicity. Show types are divided into national brands, designer brands, imported brands, and collections. The result of the comparison and analysis of the factors of the planning and production by type shows that factors vary greatly depending on the purpose of the show, target spectators, and form of the show and products. By analyzing the case study on fashion show planning and production on a practical level, the study recognizing the need of specialized development of fashion show planning in Korea's fashion industry, is a basic process of theory systematization for the planning and production in its marketing aspects, and will provide relevant theories in such aspects for those who want to enter into the field.
The purpose of this study is to analyze women apparel's colors in the Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo collections and examine the color characteristics of three collections through comparison with trend colors suggested by Carlin, a color forecasting group. A literature review and an empirical study were used for methodology. The literature review examined the status and characteristics of the three collections, a fashion color forecast, and F/W 2014-15 trend colors by Carlin based on previous researches and literature data on fashion color. The empirical study extracted and analyzed 2014-15 F/W women's ready-to-wear collections in Seoul, Tokyo, and Beijing and compared the result with trend colors by Carlin. First, the colors of women's apparel were analyzed in the Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo collections. All three collections commonly used achromatic colors and the percentage of Bk, Gy, Wh, R, and B colors was high. All three collections used achromatic colors frequently for the main color and sub colors. For accent colors, while the application of achromatic colors was high in the Seoul collection, the application of chromatic colors was high in the Tokyo and Beijing collections. Second, women's apparel colors in the Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo collections were compared with trend colors suggested by Carlin. All three collections highly reflected Bk, Wh, and R (Carlin's forecasting color of 'Splendor') and B (forecasting color of 'Boreal'). However, the reflection of metallic colors suggested as a keyword of 'Brave New World' and Pk color of 'Sensitive' and 'Boreal' were a bit low.
