절연암 적용 컴팩트 철탑 개발 (Development of Compact Towers with Insulation Arm in Korea)

  • Lattice towers and tubular steel poles have been commonly used for electrical power transmission in Korea as well as the other countries. They are durable, structurally stable, simple and can easily be constructed in limited spaces. However, residents are opposed to construct transmission lattice towers in their areas because they are not visually attractive, and electrical field occur at the transmission lines. Underground transmissions have been used instead of the traditional towers to resolve these problems, however they are not cost effective to construct and run. Therefore, we have developed compact towers that are more attractive, well blend into the surrounding environment and much more economical than underground transmissions. This paper shows the design of a compact towers with insulation arm, in order to reduce the height of tower and the separation between phases. The compact tower can be installed in a narrow right-of-way. Insulation arms are easily applied to lattice and steel tubular towers instead of steel arms. Compact towers with insulation arm are also considered as a solution to have public acceptance or to create a familiar atmosphere among towers and people. Compact tower compared with a conventional tower, insulation arms reduces the width and height of the tower by 20% and 15% respectively.

  • The continuous increase demand for electric power leads to the additional construction of transmission facilities, but it is not easy to acquire right-of-way for transmission facilities. Therefor, there is a need for compact tower that can be built on a narrow right-of-way the compact tower with polymer insulation arm is a solution. It can be upgrading conventional 154 kV transmission line voltages to 345 kV levels. However transmission voltage is increasing, environment interference (corona noise, radio interference, etc.) will occur gradually. This environment interference is depending on the electrical clearances of tower and configuration of conductors. Therefore the analysis of the factors of environmental interference is necessary in order to upgrading transmission voltage. This paper presents the design factor of a compact tower to meet the environmental interference standard.

  • The large increase in the use of electricity has resulted in an ever-growing electric power demand. It has created the need for the construction of power transmission facility located close to the load centers and it also has to require wide right-of-way and large lots, that are not always available, for especially the installation of the towers. The difficulties in acquiring right-of-way have put pressure on energy companies to either upgrade a line on an existing right-of-way to higher voltage or build a new line on a narrow right-of-way. This paper presents the design of a compact tower with polymer Insulation arm, in order to reduce the separation between phases. the compact tower can be built on a narrow right-of-way. the compact tower can be designed based on 345 kV Tower regarding electrical clearances and right of way, therefore the conventional 154 kV Tower can be upgrading transmission line voltages have moved to 345 kV levels.

  • 최근 고압송전선 시설에 대한 경과지 확보가 점점 어려워짐에 따라 환경 친화적인 콤팩트한 송전탑 설계가 요구되어 지고 있다. 콤팩트한 송전탑용 절연재료로서 폴리머에 관한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 특히 철탑암의 재료로서 폴리머 재질이 몇몇 선진국에서 적용되어 좋은 결과를 얻고 있다. 그러나 국내에서는 송전용 철탑암에 대한 폴리머 재질의 적용은 미흡한 실정이었는데, 이제는 폴리머에 대한 고강도, 고기능화 기술이 개발되고 있으므로, 이를 송전용 철탑암에 적용하게 되면 급격한 전력수요의 증가에 따른 송전공급의 증대에 민첩하게 대응할 수 있는 방안으로 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 송전탑용 폴리머 절연암을 설계하고, 그것의 전기적 특성을 해석하고, 기존 철탑에 적용한 콤팩트 송전탑을 설계하여 기계적 안정성을 시험하였다.

  • CTMS(Compact Tower Online Monitoring System), which deals with the polymer insulation arms of new material, is the on-line monitoring system for verifying stability and reliability of a new Compact Tower. CTMS measures real time data from the installed sensors in a Compact Tower and transmission line, air craft warning lights for detecting and determining the life time and the replace cycle of these facilities. This paper introduces how develop the CTMS and proposes how it will be use.

  • As electrical power demand is gradually increasing, the construction of power transmission facility is unavoidable. However difficulties which resulted from increasing of complaints and NYMBY make power transmission tower to be more environmentally friendly. As an alternative proposal, a new method which is changing conventional iron arm for insulation arm which is made of FRP(Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastics) is in progress. In this paper, we discussed environmentally friendly characteristic of domestic 154 kV testing transmission tower whose insulation arms have same mechanical and excellent electrical properties compare to conventional heavy iron arm.

  • The electric power demand is steadily high. It becomes difficult to secure the land for overhead transmission lines year after year. Downsizing of overhead transmission lines can be most effectively achieved by applying polymer insulation arm. This paper describes the outline of compact overhead transmission lines and the result of mechanical evaluation of FRP for the compact transmission towers. Bending strength of FRP was evaluated according to the fiber orientation because the fiber orientation in FRP has a great effect on the strength of FRP.

소형 직교류형 냉각탑의 성능 특성에 관한 연구 (Performance Characteristics of Small Sized Cross-flow Cooling Tower)

  • The performance of cooling tower is dependent on the thermal performance of the packings. It's assessed by heat transfer rate and fan power. In this study, new packing was developed for application in compact type cross-flow cooling tower. The packing characteristic curve and the pressure drop curve were obtained by measuring packing characteristic values and pressure drops of small sized filler in comparison to existing mid-large sized filler. The heat transfer characteristics on small sized filler are about 66% higher than existing mid-large sized filler. The pressure drop characteristics on small sized filler are about two times of the pressure drop characteristics on existing mid-large sized filler.

Design and transient analysis of a compact and long-term-operable passive residual heat removal system

  • Nuclear marine propulsion has been emerging as a next generation carbon-free power source, for which proper passive residual heat removal systems (PRHRSs) are needed for long-term safety. In particular, the characteristics of unlimited operation time and compact design are crucial in maritime applications due to the difficulties of safety aids and limited space. Accordingly, a compact and long-term-operable PRHRS has been proposed with the key design concept of using both air cooling and seawater cooling in tandem. To confirm its feasibility, this study conducted system design and a transient analysis in an accident scenario. Design results indicate that seawater cooling can considerably reduce the overall system size, and thus the compact and long-term-operable PRHRS can be realized. Regarding the transient analysis, the Multi-dimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety (MARS-KS) code was used to analyze the system behavior under a station blackout condition. Results show that the proposed design can satisfy the design requirements with a sufficient margin: the coolant temperature reached the safe shutdown condition within 36 h, and the maximum cooling rate did not exceed 40 ℃/h. Lastly, it was assessed that both air cooling and seawater cooling are necessary for achieving long-term operation and compact design.

  • 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 송전선로에 주로 적용하고 있는 역상수직 2회선 배열을 기본 모델로 하여 다양한 저감 설계기술 적용시의 FRF(Field Reduction Factor)를 구하는데 중점을 두었다. 검토한 결과로는 신규선로 저감기술로서는 송전선로의 경우 지상고 증가, Compact Tower개발, Diamond Tower의 채용, 일부 구간의 Transposed 선로배치 등이 우리나라에서 적용 가능한 후보군으로 분석되었다.
