  • Objectives: Obesity is regarded as one of the most prominent health threats worldwide and a serious risk factor for non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes mellitus type 2, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and some types of cancer. Given the role that societal development-as reflected by the Human Development Index (HDI)-may play in the prevalence of obesity and overweight, this study aimed to investigate the degree to which the prevalence of obesity and overweight is affected by HDI and its components. Methods: In this ecological study, the required data on HDI and its components were gathered from the latest report of the United Nations Development Program, and data on obesity and overweight were acquired from the latest reports published on the World Health Organization website. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 24.0. Results: The prevalence of obesity was determined to be significantly higher among females than males, and the gross national index per capita was found to be significantly higher for males than females (p<0.05). Significant positive correlations were found between HDI and its components and sex, as well as indices of obesity and overweight. Conclusions: A significant positive correlation exists between HDI and obesity. As policy-makers attempt to improve the general welfare of the people, they should be aware of potential unwanted effects of development on the risk of obesity and overweight among the population.

  • This study was conducted for the purpose of deriving implications by observing the changing patterns and characteristics of the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity with Gimhae city, Gyeongsangnam-do as the subject. In order to achieve this goal, we first examined the problems and possibilities of farmland reduction area in urban vicinity through a theoretical review. Additionally, the characteristics of land use and community were examined for Gimhae city, Gyeongsangnam-do. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, for 35 years from 1981 to 2015, Gimhae decreased $50.52km^2$ of farmland, which is about 17.4 times that of Yoido, and about 69.4% of the decreased farmland area. Second, the decrease in agricultural land has been expanding to the whole of Gimhae City from 1990 to 2010, and has been continuing since 2010 around dong-area. Third, in the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity, the number of settlements increases rapidly, but the aging population also increases. Fourth, the composition of the community is getting complicated with the change of the members. Taken together, it is necessary to manage the area efficiently because rapid change is present in the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity. Based on this, the implications are summarized as follows. First, there is a change in land use due to the reduction of farmland not designated as agricultural development region. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement the farmland-conversion standard. Second, despite the fact that land use management has been carried out, there have been problems such as uncontrolled development due to the development pressure beyond institutional management, and therefore it is necessary to improve the structural defects of the pertinent legal system. Fourth, while the traditional farming activities are decreasing with the decrease of agricultural land area, the increase in farms with secondary jobs and the urban-rural interchanges organization's efforts can lead to increased visits from outsiders that seek rural tourism and experiential learning.

  • According to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) report, the suicide rate of senior citizens has been high since 2009 due to lower social participation compared to their youth and depression. As entering the Information Era, it became easier to form and expand relationships due to the influence of online community sites. However, it is difficult to use these community sites for the elderly because they lack accessiblity for seniors. In this paper, we describe the content of community mobile apps for senior citizens' social solitude and participation in information society. We also, analyze why community sites are difficult to use, and suggest community mobile app interfaces and content considering physical and cognitive conditions, focusing on user scenarios based on PACMAD, one of the user assessment models. This will serve as the basis for encouraging the elderly to participate in the information society.

  • Purpose : Community care occupational therapy is an integrated mediation method such as evaluating and mediating daily life activities, evaluating and modifying the environment, and providing information by visiting the home where the client resides. In this study, we examine the effect of implementing a community-care occupational therapy program on the levels of depression, quality of sleep, and quality of life of elderly individuals living alone. Methods : Among the users of organizations C and D located in City B, province A, South Korea, a total of 32 elderly citizens aged above 65 were chosen as the study subjects and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. For the experimental group, a total of 24 sessions, each lasting 60 minutes, comprising a community-care occupational therapy program and each organization's own program, were conducted, with each session conducted twice a week for a total of 12 weeks. On the other hand, those in the control group participated in the existing programs of their organizations. Changes in the levels of depression, quality of sleep, and quality of life before and after the intervention were compared using the GDSSF-K, GQOL, and GQOL. Results : Overall, the levels of depression, quality of sleep, and quality of life were found to improve among the experimental group after the intervention. In a between-group comparison of the changes before and after the intervention, the experimental group was found to exhibit a more statistically significant difference than that of the control group. Conclusion : The results obtained in this study confirm that community-care occupational therapy programs have a positive effect on the levels of depression, quality of sleep, and quality of life of elderly individuals living alone. This implies that such programs may represent an effective solution for the problems of these individuals.

  • Nowadays, many farmers use online management diagnosis tool developed by Rural development agency(RDA) for the purpose of self-diagnosis of their farm management. Database(DB) was created using the diagnosis results and has been used for agri-firm management consulting. However, the amount of diagnosis data in the DB has been decreasing year by year. This means that the diagnosis tool of RDA did not reach farmers' expectation. Therefore it is necessary to develop a practical consulting tool which is applicable for various types of agri-firm management. This study introduces a management diagnosis tool and consulting method based on multi-contingency organization theory and value chain model for the purpose of improving existing tools and methods. The consulting method based on multi-contingency organization theory shows the core strategy of agri-firms by two different ways such as "efficiency-oriented" direction and "effectiveness-orientated" direction. Also, this method emphasizes that the performance of firm can be achieved when subelements of firm activities follow the same direction with the orientation of core strategy. The important thing is the right firm management activity fitted to its strategic direction. Through this action, limited firm resources can be optimized. In order to make itself understand, this study shows a practical example applied by this method from actual agri-firms.

  • The purposes of study are to examine early appearance of rural village development that local administration firstly promoted through the 'Mobum Burak Development' promoted in environment change around the local government in 5 16 military government period and find implications of the current rural village development. During the military government period(1961~1963), rural administration showed lots of changes such as reorganization of administration system whose basic local government are si gun, introduction of national planning system and spread of si gun, reorganization of rural taxation system, diversification of extension caused by the establishment of rural facilities such as new Nong-hyup, RDA, etc. Thus, the main axis of development administration of counties was transferred from central government or American aid organization to local administration. According to the basic operation plan introduced after the 5 16 as a planning system, the Ministry of Home Affairs instructed to write and promote gun construction plan based on all conditions of gun as long-term general plan of rural development. Therefore, each do established general plans such as 'Nongdo Jeonbuk Geundaehwa Plan', 'Yakjin Gyeongbuk Plan', 'Jeonnam Miraesang', etc. and Mobum Burak Development was promoted by all kinds of titles such as 'Bogoganeun Maeul(Jeonbuk)', 'Bitnaneun Maeul(Chungnam)', 'Hyeokmyeong Chon(Gyeonggi)', 'Saemaeul geonseol(Gyeongnam)', etc. as a business of rural village development. But, business contents of gun's 'construction plan' couldn't be mutually connected although Mobum Burak Development and unit business contents were promoted by duplicated plan. It became useless general plan as times went by as business focusing on short-term outcomes rather than construction based on long-term region. Mobum Burak Development also borrowed contents community development business, but military government couldn't approach basic solution of village and regional agriculture by focusing on short-term outcome, without imitation of form and procedure. This study is judged to be utilized as basic data of following studies because rural village development companies focusing on national policies discovered unit rural companies and analyzed them by connecting to environment changes of rural administration.
