  • In this paper, we present a distributed resource allocation algorithm for multi-cell uplink systems that increases the weighted sum of the average data rates over the entire network under the average transmit power constraint of each mobile station. For the distributed operation, we arrange each base station (BS) to allocate the resource such that its own utility gets maximized in a noncooperative way. We define the utility such that it incorporates both the weighted sum of the average rates in each cell and the induced interference to other cells, which helps to instigate implicit cooperation among the cells. Since the data rates of different cells are coupled through inter-cell interferences, the resource allocation taken by each BS evolves over iterations. We establish that the resource allocation converges to a unique fixed point under reasonable assumptions. We demonstrate through computer simulations that the proposed algorithm can improve the weighted sum of the average rates substantially without requiring any coordination among the base stations.

  • Recently, greedy algorithm has received much attention as a cost-effective means to reconstruct the sparse signals from compressed measurements. Much of previous work has focused on the investigation of a single candidate to identify the support (index set of nonzero elements) of the sparse signals. Well-known drawback of the greedy approach is that the chosen candidate is often not the optimal solution due to the myopic decision in each iteration. In this paper, we propose a tree search based sparse signal recovery algorithm referred to as the tree search matching pursuit (TSMP). Two key ingredients of the proposed TSMP algorithm to control the computational complexity are the pre-selection to put a restriction on columns of the sensing matrix to be investigated and the tree pruning to eliminate unpromising paths from the search tree. In numerical simulations of Internet of Things (IoT) environments, it is shown that TSMP outperforms conventional schemes by a large margin.

  • Home CATV networks comprise coaxial cables and signal splitters which have less than ideal characteristics. Home network testing facilities use long lengths of coaxial cables, often undesirably coiling and bending the cable, stressing joints on connectors. Cable connectors, cable placement, bending and flexing can cause leakage of signals and can result in undesired signal paths in a system causing deteriorated performance. The purpose of this paper is to bring to light the issues of signal leakage and radiation from shielded media such as RG-59 and RG-6 coaxial cables, furthermore signal splitters have less than ideal characteristics.

  • The maritime mobile communication system has been changing to the new system that is facilitated by the radio telex, digital selective calling and maritime satellite communications from the old system by the radio telegraphy and telephone according to the GMDSS. The NBDP using the ITA No.2 code is a useful media in the maritime communications and provides the procedures of telex. Also it can provide the efficient and more useful functions and the solutions for the incremental traffic requirements by adopting the Hangul code. So, in this paper, we proposed the new Korean NBDP code for the ITA No.2 code, designed and implemented the algorithm which is the processing of the Hangul NBDP code using the microprocessor.

  • With the proliferation of diverse wireless devices, there is an increasing concern about the security of location information which can be spoofed or disrupted by adversaries. This paper investigates the characterization and detection of location spoofing attacks, specifically those which are attempting to falsify (degrade) the position estimate through signal strength based attacks. Since the physical-layer approach identifies and assesses the security risk of position information based solely on using received signal strength (RSS), it is applicable to nearly any practical wireless network. In this paper, we characterize the impact of signal strength and beamforming attacks on range estimates and the resulting position estimate. It is shown that such attacks can be characterized by a scaling factor that biases the individual range estimators either uniformly or selectively. We then identify the more severe types of attacks, and develop an attack detection approach which does not rely on a priori knowledge (either statistical or environmental). The resulting approach, which exploits the dissimilar behavior of two RSS-based estimators when under attack, is shown to be effective at detecting both types of attacks with the detection rate increasing with the severity of the induced location error.

  • The CBS functionality is defined for emergency alert service in cellular systems. Previously, a cooperative communication technique was proposed for more reliable CBS functionality. However, the relays for cooperative communications may fail in receiving emergency message, which may cause a critical latency. Therefore, we propose a novel cooperative communication technology in this letter, which incudes additional T-DMB functionality in relays. Analytical and empirical evaluations confirm that the proposed method is very suitable for rapid emergency alert broadcast.

  • Various image interpolation methods have been proposed to increase the resolution of images and accuracy of motion estimation of video, and the interpolation filters are used in H.264/AVC and HEVC standards. In this paper, we propose an efficient image interpolation method using lapped transforms. The relation between the resizing and interpolation of images is used in the proposed method, and the complexity is significantly reduced, while the performance of the proposed method is almost the same as conventional methods.

  • This paper aims to find the reasons for Korean television drama being popular in Asia. In particular, the author argues that the role of women's Korean drama fandom is important in the popularity of Korean television drama. What is the role of fandom? How is the gender identity related to women's television viewing? What is the communicative process between the Korean drama producers and fans? What problems does the Korean Wave face recently? These are the questions dealt with in the paper.

  • Motion compensated interpolation (MCI) techniques are used for increasing the frame rate and generating the side information in the distributed video coding (DVC) system. In this paper, an efficient MCI technique using the image resizing in the DCT or LiftLT domain is proposed, and the performance of the MCI technique using various sub-pixel generation techniques is analyzed. Extensive computer simulations show that the proposed method produces the superior results compared to the conventional methods.
