  • Liver and serum $\beta$-D-mannosidase activities were determined in ethanol intoxicated rats with extrahepatic cholestasis induced by common bile duct ligation (CBD) to manifest the biochemical background of alcohol drinking hazard under the hepatobiliary disease. Liver $\beta$-D-mannosidase activity and its Vmax value in CBD ligated rats with chronic ethanol intoxication were found to be significantly decreased than that in CBD ligation alone. However, the difference of Km value on above hepatic enzyme was not found between the experimental groups. On the other hand, serum $\beta$-D-mannosidase activity in CBD ligated rats with chronic ethanol intoxication was increased more than that in CBD ligation alone. These results indicate that the biosynthesis of the hepatic $\beta$-D-mannosidase decreases and the serum $\beta$-D-mannosidase activity increases in cholestasis combined with chronic ehtanol intoxication, reflecting damage of aggravated hapatocytic membrane. Accordingly, the resulting data supported the fact that alcoholic drinks were enzymologically harmful to the hepatobiliary disease.

  • The stepping stone of the study is provided through understanding the transformation of the cultural value with the paradigm shift at the turning point of late 20th century and examining the cultural relationaship between the East and the West. By researching the oriental and occidental culture in terms of the origin formation relation and differences which should be divided into broad branches that is natural ideological formative and spatial aspects and so forth. This paper makes it possible to understand the fundamental differences and relativities between two divergent cultures by way of analyzing the architecture in plastic and cognitive aspects to residential space. this study intends to elucidate common traits of korean traditional architecture and that of the Occident and the discrepancies of their attitudes toward nature and space. In Western civilization they used to consider architecture as a physical organization while the oriental people consider it a object what is so of itself. The former concentrated on the functional rationality of scientific technology with the uncontextual propensity which does not consider natural environment the latter could reach the naturalness more harmonious to environment. What counts in the upcoming age of coexistence of Globalism that emphasizes the worlds universality and Nationalism that sticks to local cultural characteristics is to establish the new value system and identity based upon natural order and organic quality. As a result we could recognize the organic quality as a cosmic order could be a valid means to achieve the globalization of our culture through the compatibility between gap and common ground of both cultural sphere.

  • Purpose: To determine the biological behaviour of common odontogenic cystic lesions by analysing and comparing bcl-2 expression amongst them. Materials and Methods: Our study covered 90 formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue samples: 26 primary cases each of radicular cysts (RC), dentigerous cysts (DC) and odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) and 12 of recurrent OKCs. Bcl-2 expression was analysed immunohistochemically and data analysis was accomplished using SPSS version 17.0. Means were taken for age while for gender and site of the lesions frequencies and percentages were determined. The Chi-square test was applied to evaluate any statistically significant difference of bcl-2 expression in these lesions and p value of ${\leq}0.05$ was taken as significant. Results: All the recurrent OKCs showed a strong positivity for bcl-2 that was absent in all of its primary cases (p value<0.05). Although variation in expression of bcl-2 was not found to be statistically significant between RC and DC, however, it became significant when all primary cases of these common odontogenic lesions were compared. Conclusions: Recurrent OKC showed comparatively a more aggressive behaviour than their primary counterparts and also from RC and DC. Bcl-2 proved to be a valuable adjunct in determining aggressive biological behaviour of odontogenic lesions.

  • The Logic Built In Self Test (LBIST) technique is substantially applied in chip design in most many semiconductor company in despite of unavoidable overhead like an increase in dimension and time delay occurred as it used. Currently common LBIST software uses the MISR (Multiple Input Shift Register) However, it has many considerations like defining the X-value (Unknown Value), length and number of Scan Chain, Scan Chain and so on for analysis of result occurred in the process. So, to solve these problems, common LBIST software provides the solution method automated. Nevertheless, these problems haven't been solved automatically by Tri-state Bus in logic circuit yet. This paper studies the algorithm that it also suggest algorithm that reduce additional circuits and time delay as matching of pattern about 2-type circuits which are CUT(circuit Under Test) and additional circuits so that the designer can detect the wrong location in CUT: Circuit Under Test.

  • The relationship of gonad weight and liver weight with body weight of six fish species viz; Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Cirrhina mrigala, Hypophthlamichthys molitrix, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Cyprinus carpio under the influence of artificial feed, broiler manure, buffalo manure, N:P:K (25:25:0) and a control pond were examined after a rearing period of one year. The positive relationship between gonad weight and body weight was significant which showed the dependence of gonadal development on body weight in all the six fish species. The currelation coefficients were higher in female fishes. However, the major carps had a much smaller proportional gonadal weight as compared with Chinese carps and a common carp due to their faster growth rate. The overall comparison of six fish species under different experimental treatments revealed that highest liver weight was observed for C. idella closely followed by C. carpio. The maximum correlation value was observed with H. molitrix under the broiler manure. The maximum Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) remained as 32.63 for C. carpio followed by C. idella. The maximum value for Hepatosomatic Index (HSI). remained 1.99 for C. idella followed by C. mrigala.

  • Two studies were conducted using 40 cross-bred bulls to study the effect of chopping, moistening with water or common salt solution on the nutritive value of rice straw (variety BG-400). Moistening with water did not significantly effect digestibility or intake of rice straw. As compared to straw fed in the long form, chopping did not significantly influence intake (2.33 vs 1.97kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$, respectively), but significantly (p<0.05) decreased the digestibility (41.6 vs 37.4%) and intake of digestible dry matter (0.99 vs 0.74kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$). Rice straw moistened with 2 or 4% common sea salt solution and directly fed to animals (Exp. 1) did not significantly effect its digestibility (43.9 and 43.1%, respectively) or intake (2.66 or 2.59kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$, respectively), but over night storing of 2% salt solution sprayed straw (Exp. 2) significantly reduced its digestibility (33.6%). The latter is difficult to explain because the sodium concentration (mg/g straw dry matter) was lower than 4% salt solution treatment used in experiment 1 (3.30 vs 5.22). It is concluded that chopping, moistening with water or NaCl salt solution did not significantly improve the nutritive value of rice straw.

  • The chemical composition of rice germ, a by product of rice milling, was analyzed and its oil stability was evaluated by acid value and Rancimat method during storage. The predominent components of the germ were carbohydrate (36.5%). crude lipid (21.6%) and crude protein (18.7%). The time taken to double the acid value was 2 days for common rice germ, while it took 31 days to increase 1.15 times for rice germ dried at $80^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours. Induction periods of the lipid oxidation from common or dry germ stored at different temperature were not significantly different.

  • A new method for the seismic design of plane steel moment resisting frames is developed. This method determines the design base shear of a plane steel frame through modal synthesis and spectrum analysis utilizing different values of the strength reduction (behavior) factor for the modes considered instead of a single common value of that factor for all these modes as it is the case with current seismic codes. The values of these modal strength reduction factors are derived with the aid of a) design equations that provide equivalent linear modal damping ratios for steel moment resisting frames as functions of period, allowable interstorey drift and damage levels and b) the damping reduction factor that modifies elastic acceleration spectra for high levels of damping. Thus, a new performance-based design method is established. The direct dependence of the modal strength reduction factor on desired interstorey drift and damage levels permits the control of deformations without their determination and secures that deformations will not exceed these levels. By means of certain seismic design examples presented herein, it is demonstrated that the use of different values for the strength reduction factor per mode instead of a single common value for all modes, leads to more accurate results in a more rational way than the code-based ones.

  • Forage quality evaluation with several grasses grown at a high altitude pasture situated at 1,000m above sea level was made to determine what is the feed value of these grasses and whether these grasses have any differences in forage quality compared with the grdsses grown at lowland pastures. In this experiment, Common, Venture, and Palaton reed canarygrass (Phahris arundinucea L.) and Climax timothy (Phleum pratense L.) were used and harvested at two different dates, 5 July and 30 September, 1989. Cmde protein (CP) concentrations in the grasses grown in September were higher than in July. Among the grasses grown, Palaton and Common reed canarygrass were highest in CP concentration in July and September, respectively. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) concentrations in the grasses harvested in July were higher than in September. Palaton reed canruygrass was lowest in ADF and NDF concentrations at the both harvest dates. Relative feed value (RFV) in the grases harvested in July was ranged from 92 to 105 and that in September was from 110 to 117. Palation reed canarygrass had the highest RFV of 105 and 117 in July and September, respectively, therefore, the forage quality of this grass was ranked as Grade 2 based on the AFGC Hay Quality Standards. Overall forage quality of the grasses grown at a high altitude pasture seemed to be higher than the forage quality at lowland pastures. Based on the RFV assigned by the AFGC, forages with RFV 92 to 117 in this experiment could only work well in rations for low producing dairy cows.

  • Buildings undergo changes by various factors according as pass at time. Due to that social requests and issues form one common sense of value and this would influence the architect's design intention. In fact, the form and function of buildings have coped with transition of the common sense of value by each times. Hospital architecture is also changed in function, scale and technology since, Kwanghyewon which was the first western style hospital in Korea was established in 1885. It is changing that the social needs for hospital which was a basic function of healing to laying emphasis on the function of precaution. According to this, the change of hospital spaces means that it can promote healing environment which is expanded from the modern concept of isolation, accommodation and urban sanitation. These changed concepts were adopted limited areas in hospitals at first however, nowadays they are expanding to other areas. So, this is caused to make the image of the hospital. From this point of view, Entry space is an example to show the changes. This study is intended to determine the overall space structure of entry area and to classify and analyze the difference.
