EEFLs are mostly driven by sinusoidal wave driving method although EEFLs (External Electrode Fluorescent Lamps) are driven by both sinusoidal wave and square wave. The sinusoidal driving method reduces the cost and allows more power efficiency since this driving method can reduce the voltage stress of EEFL inverter switches and achieve the soft switching of the switches. And a transformer should be used in the inverter since the high voltage should be applied to the both ends of EEFL to turn on the lamp. However, the power loss mainly occurs at the transformer in the sinusoidal wave driving method. In order to remove the transformer which makes the power loss, a new method is presented. In this paper, the square wave is applied directly to the both ends of EEFL by a proposed two-stage inverter. Moreover, the luminance and power efficiency will be compared between the common sinusoidal wave driving method and square wave driving method.

New PVC based polymeric membrane electrodes (PME) and coated glassy carbon electrodes (CGCE) based on synthesized Schiff base complexes of Co(III); [Co(Salen)$(PBu_3)_2$]$ClO_4$, [Co($Me_2$Salen)$(PBu_3)_2$]$ClO_4$, [Co(Salen)$(PBu_3)H_2O$]$ClO_4$; as anion carriers for potentiometric determination of $ClO_4\;^-$were studied. The PME and also CGCE electrodes prepared with [Co(Me2Salen)$(PBu_3)_2$]$ClO_4$ showed excellent response characteristics to perchlorate ions. The electrodes exhibited Nernstian responses to $ClO_4\;^-$ ions over a wide concentration range with low detection limits ($1.0 {\times} 10^{-6}\;mol\;L^{-1}$ for PME and $9.0 {\times} 10^{-7}\;mol\;L^{-1}$ for CGCE). The electrodes possess fast response time, satisfactory reproducibility, appropriate lifetime and, most importantly, good selectivity toward $ClO_4\;^-$ relative to a variety of other common inorganic anions. The potentiometric response of the electrodes is independent of the pH in the pH range 2.5-8.5. The proposed sensors were used in potentiometric determination of perchlorate ions in mineral water and urine samples. The interaction of the ionophore with perchlorate ions was shown by UV/Vis spectroscopy.

A new lateral MOS controlled thyristor, named Shorted Anode LMCT(SA-LMCT), is proposed and analyzed by a two-dimensional device simulation. The device structure employs the implanted n+ layer which shorts the p+ anode together by a common metal electrode and provides a electron conduction path during turn-off period. The turn-off is achieved by not only diverting the hole current through the p+ cathode short but also providing the electron conduction path from the n-base into the n+ anode electrode. In addition, the modified shorted anode LMCT, which has an n+ short junction located inside the p+ anode junction, is also presented. It is shown that the modified SA-LMCT enjoys the advantage of no snap-back behavior in the forward characteristics with little sacrificing of the forward voltage drop. The simulation result shows that the turn-off times of SA-LMCT can be reduced by one-forth and the maximum controllable current density may be increased by 45 times at the expense of 0.34 V forward voltage drop as compared with conventional LMCT. We present a MEMS-based portable Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (micro-DFMC), featured by a platinum sputtered microcolumn electrode and a built-in fuel chamber containing a limited amount of methanol fuel. Also presented is a micro-DMFC stack structure having a common electrolyte sandwiched by the microcolumn electrodes. The single cells with ME16 and PE16 electrodes show the maximum power densities of $31.04{\pm}0.29{\mu}W/cm^2$ and $9.75{\pm}0.29{\mu}W/cm^2$, respectively; thus indicating the microcolumn electrode (ME16) generates the power density (3.2 times) higher than the planar electrode (PE16). The single cell tests of ME16 and ME4 electrodes (Fig.8) show the maximum power of $31.04{\pm}0.29{\mu}W/cm^2$, and $25.23{\pm}2.7{\mu}W/cm^2$, respectively; thus demonstrating the increased window frame reduces the normalized standard power deviation (standard deviation over the average power). The normalized deviation of 0.11 in ME4 cell has been reduced to 0.01 in ME16 cell due to the increased window frames. The maximum power density of 4-cell stack is 15.7 times higher than that of the single cell. 4-cell stack produces the power capacity of 20.3mWh/g during 980min operation at the voltage of 450mV with the load resistance of $800{\Omega}$.

Dimethyl 1-(4-nitrobenzoyl)-8-oxo-2,8-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[5,1-a]isoindole-2,3-dicarboxylate has been used as an ionophore and o-nitrophenyloctyl ether as a plasticizer in order to develop a poly(vinyl chloride)-based membrane electrode for calcium ion detection. The sensors exhibit significantly enhanced response towards calcium(II) ions over the concentration range $8.0{\times}10^{-7}\;1.0{\times}10^{-1}$ M at pH 3.0-11 with a lower detection limit of $5.0 {\times}10^{-7}$ M. The sensors display Nernstian slope of 29.5 ${\pm}$ 0.5 mV per decade for Ca(II) ions. Effects of plasticizers, lipophilic salts and various foreign common ions are tested. It has a fast response time within 10 s over the entire concentration range and can be used for at least 2 months without any divergence in potentials. The proposed electrode revealed good selectivity and response for $Ca^{2+}$ over a wide variety of other metal ions. The selectivity of the sensor is comparable with those reported for other such electrodes. The proposed sensor was successfully applied as an indicator electrode for the potentiometric titration of a Ca(II) solution, with EDTA.
Screen printing method is a common way to fabricate the crystalline silicon solar cell with low-cost and high-efficiency. The screen printing metallization use silver paste and aluminum paste for front and rear contact, respectively. Especially the rear contact between aluminum and silicon is important to form the back surface filed (Al-BSF) after firing process. BSF plays an important role to reduces the surface recombination due to $p^+$ doping of back surface. However, Al electrode on back surface leads to bow occurring by differences in coefficient of thermal expansion of the aluminum and silicon. In this paper, we studied the properties of mono crystalline silicon solar cell for rear electrode with aluminum and aluminum-boron in order to characterize bow and BSF of each paste. The 156*156 $m^2$ p-type silicon wafers with $200{\mu}m$ thickness and 0.5-3 ${\Omega}\;cm$ resistivity were used after texturing, diffusion, and antireflection coating. The characteristics of solar cells was obtained by measuring vernier callipers, scanning electron microscope and light current-voltage. Solar cells with aluminum paste on the back surface were achieved with $V_{OC}$ = 0.618V, JSC = 35.49$mA/cm^2$, FF(Fill factor) = 78%, Efficiency = 17.13%.
The impurities in the methanol fuel that is used for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) could greatly affect the performance of membrane electrode assemblies (MEA). The most common impurities in the commercial methanol fuel are mainly ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, or ammonia. In this study, the effect of impurities in methanol fuel was investigated on the performance of MEA. The MEA for DMFC were prepared using a semi-automatic bar-coating machine, which can prepare the catalyst layer with uniform thickness for MEA. As a result, a single cell supplied with one of the 6 different kinds of methanol fuels showed a significant degradation of the fuel cell performance. The most common impurities in the commercial methanol fuel is mainly ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, or ammonia. The effects of the kind and the concentration of impurities in the methanol fuels were investigated on the performance of MEA for DMFC. We will propose the optimum compositions and limit concentration of impurities in methanol fuel for high performance of MEA for DMFC.
The sharing of common corridors by electric power transmission lines and pipelines is becoming more common place. However, such corridor sharing can result in undesired coupling of electromagnetic energy from the power lines to the near facilities. This causes induced voltages on underground metallic pipelines due to the power line currents. This could cause AC corrosion in the pipeline, which could in turn lead to disastrous accidents, such as gas explosion or oil leakage. This paper investigates for the limitation of induced voltage on the buried metal structures which is used in the inside and outside of the country. And then we measure the earth resistance and leakage current of 22.9kV distribution lines and pipe to soil potential of near pipelines in Seoul Korea. Hereby we can see the leakage current flowing through the earthing electrode have an effect on near pipelines.

Electrical impedance tomography(EIT) can produce functional images with conductivity distributions associated with physiological events such as cardiac and respiratory cycles. EIT has been proposed as a clinical imaging tool for the detection of stroke and breast cancer, pulmonary function monitoring, cardiac imaging and other clinical applications. However EIT still suffers from technical challenges such as the electrode interface, hardware limitations, lack of animal or human trials, and interpretation of conductivity variations in reconstructed images. We improved the KHU Mark2 EIT system by introducing an EIT electrode interface consisting of nano-web fabric electrodes and by adding a synchronized biosignal measurement system for gated conductivity imaging. ECG and respiration signals are collected to analyze the relationship between the changes in conductivity images and cardiac activity or respiration. The biosignal measurement system provides a trigger to the EIT system to commence imaging and the EIT system produces an output trigger. This EIT acquisition time trigger signal will also allow us to operate the EIT system synchronously with other clinical devices. This type of biosignal gated conductivity imaging enables capture of fast cardiac events and may also improve images and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by using signal averaging methods at the same point in cardiac or respiration cycles. As an example we monitored the beat by beat cardiac-related change of conductivity in the EIT images obtained at a common state over multiple respiration cycles. We showed that the gated conductivity imaging method reveals cardiac perfusion changes in the heart region of the EIT images on a canine animal model. These changes appear to have the expected timing relationship to the ECG and ventilator settings that were used to control respiration. As EIT is radiation free and displays high timing resolution its ability to reveal perfusion changes may be of use in intensive care units for continuous monitoring of cardiopulmonary function.
The construction and performance characteristics of doxepin hydrochloride selective electrodes were developed. Three types of electrodes: plastic membrane I, coated wire II, and coated graphite rod III were constructed based on the incorporation of doxepin hydrochloride with ammonium reineckate. The influence of membrane composition, kind of plasticizer, pH of the test solution, soaking time, and foreign ions on the electrodes was investigated. The electrodes showed a Nernstain response with a mean slope of 57.41 ${\pm}$ 0.5, 56.22 ${\pm}$ 0.2 and 52.88 ${\pm}$ 0.7 mV at $25^{\circ}C$ for electrode I, II and III respectively, over Doxepin hydrochloride concentration range from $1{\times}10^{-2}-1{\times}10^{-6}M$, $5{\tims}10^{-2}-1{\times}10^{-6}M$ and $1{\times}10^{-3}-5{\times}10^{-6}M$, and with a detection limit $5.0{\times}10^{-7}M$, $6.3{\times}10^{-7}M$ and $2.5{\times}10^{-6}M$ for electrode I, II and III respectively. The constructed electrodes gave average selective precise and usable within the pH range 3 - 7. Interferences from common cations, alkaloids, sugars, amino acids and drug excipients were reported. The results obtained by the proposed electrodes were also applied successfully to the determination of the drug in pharmaceutical preparations and biological fluids.
