In this study, $CO_2$ adsorbent was developed for removing low concentration of $CO_2$ in multiple-use facilities. The efficiency of the adsorbent which was improved selective $CO_2$ adsorption capabilities was evaluated. The pellet type adsorbent was modified from a commercial zeolite with mixing LiOH, binder, additives, and $H_2O$. Column tests showed over 90 % of $CO_2$ was adsorbed within 400min. Chamber tests including batch and continuous types were performed for evaluating the adsorbent module. By batch tests, it was evaluated that about 92% of $CO_2$ was removed within 30 min. By continuous tests, 70% of $CO_2$ was removed within 30 min. It was analyzed that over 2,500 ppm of $CO_2$ was continuously removed as shown chamber tests. The reproducibility tests repeatedly performed for 15 days shows that over 1,000 ppm of $CO_2$ was continuously removed. Adsorption capacity of the developed adsorbent was 5.0mmol $CO_2/g$ adsorbent which was analyzed by TGA. It was estimated that the modified adsorbent was applicable to low $CO_2$ concentration and low temperature of indoor environment.
In this study, an effective method to prepare granular binderless ZSM-5 which is as efficient p-xylene separatory adsorbent was explored. Colloidal silica sol 30 wt% solution as an inorganic binder and microcrystalline cellulose as an organic additive were added to ZSM-5 powder ($SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ = 50). Adsorbent with enough strength (0.721 kgf), high crystallinity (94.6%) and high BET specific surface area ($379.2m^2$/g) was obtained by calcination, binderless treatment, ${NH_4}^+$ ion exchange, and activation after spherical granulation process. A batch type adsorption experiment was proceeded with solutions comprising 3 xylene isomers by 1 : 1 : 1 weight ratio to evaluate adsorption characteristics of prepared absorbent. As a result, the obtained binderless ZSM-5 granule showed a higher selective adsorption performance for para-xylene than that of commercial adsorbent.
Zeolite material having XRD peaks of Na-A zeolite in the 2θ range of 7.18 to 34.18 can be synthesized from the waste catalyst using a fusion/hydrothermal method. The adsorption rate of Mn ions by a commercial Na-A zeolite and the synthesized zeolitic material increased as the adsorption temperature increased in the range of 10 ~ 40℃. The adsorption of Mn ion were very rapid in the first 30 min and then reached to the equilibrium state after approximately 60 min. The adsorption kinetics of Mn ions by the commercial Na-A zeolite and the zeolitic material were found to be well fitted to the pseudo-2nd order kinetic model. Equilibrium data by the commercial Na-A zeolite and the zeolitic material fit the Langmuir, Koble-Corrigan, and Redlich-Peterson isotherm models well rather than Freundlich isotherm model. The removal capacity of the Mn ions by the commercial Na-A zeolite and the zeolitic material obtained from the Langmuir model was 135.2 mg/g and 128.9 mg/g at 30℃, respectively. The adsorption capacity of Mn ions by the synthesized zeolitic material was almost similar to that of commercial Na-A zeolite. The synthesized zeolitic material could be applied as an economically feasible commercial adsorbent.
Composite adsorbents were prepared by mixing water plant sludge with phenolic resin having the ratio of 1 : 1, 1 : 2, and 1 : 3 respectively, curing from $100^{\circ}C$ to $170^{\circ}C$ under $N_2$ atmosphere, and then activating with $N_2$ at $700^{\circ}C$. Thermal property, specific surface area and morphology of the composite adsorbents as well as their precursors were measured by TGA, BET and SEM respectively. Removal efficiency of the composite adsorbents to ${NH_4}^+$ and TOC was compared with those of commercial zeolite and activated carbon. The adsorbents presented very promising TOC removal efficiency of 98%, which was identical level to that of commercial activated carbon while they displayed removal efficiency, only 32%, of ${NH_4}^+$. Therefore, this composite adsorbent considered as the alternative material of commercial activated carbon, used as an expensive removal agent of organic substances and THM in water treatment plant and it also suggested a possibility of practical application in other processes.

The objective of this research was to develop the adsorbent far heavy metals by activating the bark sample. Barks from pine tree with diameters of $2{\sim}4\;mm$ were activated in the muffle furnace under a high relative humidity condition at temperatures of $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. The removal efficiency of the activated bark (ACTBARK) for Cu and Cd was temperature dependent showing the order of $900^{\circ}C$ > $800^{\circ}C$ > $700^{\circ}C$ > $600^{\circ}C$. The critical temperature was considered to be $900^{\circ}C$ to become an efficient adsorbent for Cu and Cd. The bark samples activated at temperatures lower than $700^{\circ}C$ showed a less removal efficiency than the crude bark. The ACTBARK activated at $900^{\circ}C$ removed more Cu and Cd from solution than the commercial activated carbon and charcoal. The ACTBARK (activated at $900^{\circ}C$) adsorbed all of the Cu and Cd in solution with concentrations less than 150 mg/L. The selectivity of the ACTBARK was in the order of Cu > Zn > Ni > Pb > Fe > Cd > Mn.
Porous carbon with high surface area and pore volume was prepared by a reverse replication process and its toluene equilibrium adsorption behavior was investigated. The preparation process of the porous carbon was composed of fellowing sub-processes in series: synthesis and template preparation of silica gel, impregnation and polymerization of DVB monomer in silica template, carbonization of DVB polymer in a silica-polymer composite, and HF-assisted selective etching of silica in carbon-silica composite. The prepared porous carbon was nano porous and had ultrahigh specific surface area (2007 ㎡/g) and large pore volume (3.07 ㎤/g). The nanoporous carbon showed rapid toluene adsorption rate and good toluene adsorption capacity, compared with a commercial Y-type zeolite. In the present study, a reverse replication process to prepare nanoporous carbons will be introduced and its application potential as a gas adsorbent will be discussed.

The present paper deals with gaseous carbon dioxide separation by a commercial adsorbent: X-type zeolite. Experimental work was carried out at an ambient condition focusing on how well meeting to the national guideline. A few types of reactor and material were examined, and practical capability was found in a granular bed type reactor with the flow of 2.5 CMM. An optimum design of reactor and adsorbent could provide the required concentration, less than 2500 ppm, for the continuous operation up to 10 hours. More work including automatic regeneration is now underworking.

A dense pellicular solid matrix has been fabricated by coating 4% agarose gel on to dense zironia-silica(ZS) spheres by watr-in-oil emulsification . The agarose evenly laminated the ZS bead to a depth of 30㎛, and the resultin gpellicular assembly was characterised by densities up to 2.39g/mL and a mean particle dimeter of 136 ㎛. In comparative fluidisation tests, the pellicular solid phase exhibited a two-fold greater flow velocity than commercial benchmark ad-sorbents necessary to achieve common values of bed expansion. Furthermore, the perlicular parti-cles were characterised by improved qualities of chromatographic behaviour, particularly with re-spect to a three-fold increase in the apparent effective diffusivity of lysozyme within a pellicular assembly modified with Cibacron Blue 3GA. The properties of rapid protein adsorption/desorp-tion were attributed to the physical design and pellicular deployment of the reactive surface in the solid phase. When combined with enhanced feedstock throughput, such practical advantages recommend the pellicular assembly as a base matrix for the selective recovery of protein products from complex, particulate feedstocks(whole fermentation broths, cell disruptates and biological extracts).

The white-spotted chafer, Protaetia brevitarsis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), has been traditionally used in Korea as a medicine for preventing liver-related diseases and suppressing liver cancer. Therefore, this insect is economically important and is commercially reared and sold in Korea. Recently, P. brevitarsis was listed as a temporal food ingredient by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Given the increasing economic importance of this beetle, we have sought to improve rearing conditions for its commercial production. In this study, we compared the effects of two food supplements, clay and charcoal, on the growth of second instar larvae of P. brevitarsis. Clay and charcoal are generally known as good adsorbent for removal of contaminating substances in insect feed. We fed second instar P. brevitarsis larvae a commercial diet consisting of fermented sawdust with seven different combinations of clay and/or activated charcoal, and measured their effects on weight gain for approximately 17 wk until larvae pupated. We found that addition of clay at 2.5% w/w of the fermented sawdust diet had no negative effect on weight gain of second instar P. brevitarsis larvae and thus may improve the quality of P. brevitarsis as a commercial food.
This study is to develop of an adsorbent for the removing of human body harmful benzene, toluene, and p-xylene as VOCs. Thus, this study researched the adsorption efficiency of the commercial ACF and the reactivated ACF by KOH/ACF to molar 1: 1. As the results, the effects have shown to enlarge with the increasing of VOCs concentration for adsorptive breakthrough time and breakthrough percentage on each substance. Also, the study have investigated as a similar tendency in case of desorption efficiency for toluene and p-xylene at constant concentration as 125PPM and 0.5$\ell$/min volume flow rate. But in case of benzene, it has been investigated to have rather lower desorption efficiency re-activation ACF than commercial ACF.
