  • As people are getting interested in themselves ever than before, the value of culture industry which can satisfy their emotions has been considered much more important. According to this, in terms of the 'space', it is better to represent 'space' not just as a functional space, but the human-centered and making human and nature together. In this society, the most human-centered design can be achieved by pursuing value which is friendlier to nature. And it is sure that the interior design that completes life quality as well as emotions of human will be common in near future. There already has been a try 'Green interior' in subway station in variety ways, and now it is needed to make indoor display in Seoul subway station different in order to satisfy human emotions. If culture space in Seoul subway station applied eco-element interacts with indoor environment, it is surely expected that people have better feeling on subway station as well as help eliminate negative elements which underground have had. In culture space, there are many advantages for displaying space into 'nature', that is, natural space represents the best comfortable and agreeable space, and future-oriented design when it gets interacted with environment. Application of 'Green interior' in Seoul subway station makes special place ness by its symbol and image, so that it derives people to have more natural and comfortable movement distance in subway station, offers more comfortable and cozy place as well. Furthermore, it makes people very moved by experiencing the most special culture space that they have ever had.

  • In this paper, the effects of ventilation and humidification on thermal comfort and indoor air quality(IAQ) were evaluated in a classroom when a heat pump system was operated in winter. Thermal comfort parameters, such as temperature, relative humidity, globe temperature and air velocity, were measured at 9 points in the classroom. The concentration of $CO_2$ and total suspended particles(TSP) in the classroom were measured in order to analyze IAQ. Temperature distribution in the classroom was decreased by $2{\sim}5^{\circ}C$ when the ventilation system and the humidifier were operated. When the relative humidity was adjusted to 60% by operating the humidifier and the ventilation system, the predicted mean vote(PMV) in the classroom was within the comfortable range of $-0.5{\sim}0.5$. When the ventilation system was operated, the average concentration of $CO_2$ and TSP were decreased by 645 ppm and 0.17 $mg/m^3$, respectively. This paper suggests the humidification and ventilation conditions to maintain the comfortable environment in the school classroom in winter experimentally.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a measurement model for evaluation of residential environment in low-income families. Residential environment means the housing unit itself and neighborhoods and community characteristics. Based on the previous research on housing environment, six factors (comfortable environment in indoor and outdoor, facilities environment in complex and community, sociopsychological environment, management and economic environment) were selected to evaluate residential environment and to provided a foundation for exploring the multidimensional factors of this research. As s confirmatory study, an Analysis of Linear Structural Relationships(LISREL) was utilized to develop the model. Despite of some measurement errors, the goodness of fit of an overall model was acceptable. Facilities environment in complex and sociopsychological environment were the most important factors in residential environmental evaluation of the low income families. the findings showed that housing policies and programs to improve the quality of homes in low-income families seemed to be beneficial to improve residential satisfaction of the residents.

  • This study investigated undergraduate students' perceptions and mental models of the environment. A total of 192 students were sampled from a university of Gyoungbuk area. The environmental task was administrated to students drew a picture of an environment and explained their drawing. The results are as follows: First, a majority of undergraduate students perceived an environment from a comfortable environment. Second, five mental models emerged from a content analysis of students' responses about environmental drawing. Third, the dominant model was mental model 4, the environment as a place where animals, plants, and humans live. This means that the majority of students perceived a 'relation' rather than 'objects' views of the environment. Therefore, undergraduate students' conceptualizations about environment depends on a view or mental models of the environment which places humans in a sustaining relationship with the environment and its natural resources. The implications of these findings for environmental education are discussed.

  • During the rapid economic growth, many buildings have been built unfaithfully. As a result, the buildings have finished their role in 10 years with dangerous structural elements and deteriorative facilities. This study planned to renovate an old independent house as an original and individual interior space which is its advantage. A house is not the place to eat and sleep, but multiple space with various functions, such as shelter, working, rest, and education. The purpose of this study was to make house environment useful and comfortable by understanding such a situation and by predicting future problems.

  • As residential buildings becomes high rise buildings, the new cladding system was needed for structure system, and unpredictable problems were found in it. The aim of this study is to analysis the present state and find improvement of indoor environment in high rise residential building, which used curtain wall system. Then, suggest to create comfortable indoor environment for high rise residential buildings in the process of design.

  • The preferred illumination environment in accordance with the actions taken by the occupants of the rooms in residences differs significantly between different cultures and circumstances in and out of the country. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the visual performance of various illumination environments in residential spaces by allowing the participants of the experiments to select the kind of illumination environment they prefer as the occupants of the room. For this purpose, we prepared a mock-up residential space of $6.2m{\times}4.5m{\times}2.5m$, where the experiments for this study were conducted. Then, three illuminance settings (30lx, 100lx, and 150lx) and three color temperature settings (2700k, 4000k, and 6500k) were selected as the properties of the physical environment where the tests were to be conducted. The survey was conducted with 30 study subjects, with whom the level of visual comfort and the lighting adjustment evaluation by different activities were carried out. The level of visual comfort in lighting in a residential context turned to be more influenced by the color temperature and illuminance compared to other factors. Except for the test item, 'comfort,' all test items showed positive reactions when the illuminance was 150lx, which was rather light. In 'comfort,' the test subjects appeared to prefer warm color temperature of 2700k. As we allowed the occupants to adjust the lighting environment in accordance with the conditions of the subjects and the activities they performed, the subjects regarded 150lx - 4000k setting as comfortable, while they preferred 150lx-5400k configuration for working. In case of resting, the subject answered that the configuration of 30lx -2700k setting to be visually comfortable.

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of body fat on thermophysiological responses and subjective sensations under hot environment. Fifteen female college students volunteered as subjects. Subjects were organized into three groups - low body fat group(L group : less than 20% of body fat), medium body fat group(M group : 20%~30% of body fat) and high body fat group(H group : More than 30% of Body fat). The experiment was carried out in a climate chamber of $32^{\circ}C$, 60%RH with the repeat of having 'Exercise' and 'Rest' period. The results of this study are as follows ; Rectal temperature maintained higher in M group and L group than in H group in the period of exercise 1. High body fat was so effective in keeping the core temperature, it seems that as was usually the case in cold environment. The mean skin temperature was the lowest value in H group but the ratio of mean skin temperature change was clearly high value in H group. The above facts indicated that thermophysiological response occurs rapidly in H group. Blood pressure, pulse rate and metabolic rate of H group showed the highest values and those of L group showed the lowest value in all period of experiment. Effective of sweating rate was higher in H group than other groups. In subjective sensations, The H group felt more pleasant and comfortable than M group. With these results in mind, people of H group responses more actively for thermal regulation in a hot environment, and these leads H group to feel more pleasant and comfortable.
