Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Positional Release Therapy on patients of neck pain, Methods: 12 patients was treated by Positional Release Therapy(PRT) combined with acupuncture, We measured the Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Neck Disability Index(NDI) before and after treatment The statistical analysis was performed by using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: 1. Patients showed significant improvement in VAS after treatrnent(p<0.05). 2. Patients showed significant improvement in NDI after treatment(p<0.05). Conclusion: These results imply that Positional Release Therapy combined with acupuncture would be effective on relieving pain and increasing functional ability in daily-life of patients of neck pain.

Objectives: It has been demonstrated that acupuncture treats diseases while that the widespread use of that clinically and experimentally. It also has shown that electro-acupuncture(EA) is more effective than manual-acupuncture (MA). The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of EA and MA at combined acupoints on sex and age in rats. Methods: This study measured the effects of acupuncture treatment on small intestinal motility in rats. MA and EA(intensity, 5 times muscle twitch threshold) was applied for 30 minutes to the combined left and right sides acupoints on ST36, ST37, ST39 under enflurane anesthesia. EA and MA applied to the ST36, ST37, ST39 acupoints produced an elevation of small intestinal motility. Results: In experimental groups of combined left and right sides acupoints, only specified groups show elevation of small intestinal motility in male rats, 5 weeks age. Furthermore, combined left and right sides acupoints in EA and MA show differences effects according to the sex, male and female, and the age as 5, 6, 7, 8 weeks. Conclusion : Although these different according to the sex and age in rats do not have a established tendency, the present study suggest that effect of EA and MA are experimentally dependent upon the sex and age on small intestinal motility in rats.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the patient with radial nerve palsy, who improved by oriental medical treatment. Methods : The patient was managed by Cathami Flos aqua-acupuncture, Dong-Qi acupuncture treatment, Comman acupuncture treatment and Herbal medicine. We took pictures of patient's wrist and checked the power of muscles. And we checked the numbness of thumb that was patient's subjective sensation. Results : After 2 weeks-treatment, the movement and power of wrist was restored to nearly normal range, also the numbness of thumb was removed. Combined oriental medical treatment can treat radial nerve palsy earlier than the other methods. Conclusions : The results suggest that combination of Cathami Flos aqua-acupuncture, Dong-Qi acupuncture treatment, Comman acupuncture treatment and Herbal medicine is good method for treatments of radial nerve palsy. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of this method for treating radial nerve palsy.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent degenerative joint disease causing significant pain and dysfunction. This case report presents the use of electromagnetic acupuncture utilizing a Whata 153 device generating a magnetic field to enhance acupuncture stimulation for the treatment of KOA. A 69-year-old female diagnosed with KOA experienced a reduction in pain (numerical rating scale score from 7 to 4), improved gait, and decreased stiffness and swelling after daily electromagnetic acupuncture treatments during hospitalization. In addition, the Korean Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index scoreimproved from 20 to 14, and the patient rated her overall improvement as "significantly improved" on the patient's global impression of change scale. Although these findings suggest potential benefits of electromagnetic acupuncture for KOA, the case report design limits its generalizability. More controlled trials are warranted to confirm the efficacy and safety of electromagnetic acupuncture as a treatment of KOA.

Objective : The present study was carried out to investigate the preventive effect of Several Herb - Combined Prescription (SHP) on streptozotocin (STZ) - induced diabetes mellitus. Methods : SHP was given to mice with the combination of oral administration and herbal-acupuncture stimulation. Experimental diabetes was induced by the injection of STZ(50mg/kg) to the rat via the peritoneum The effect of SHP on STZ-induced diabetes was observed by measuring the serum level of insulin, glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol and lipid peroxides. Hepatic activities of catalase and reduced glutathione were examined. Results : SHP treatment protected them from the hyperglycemia. STZ induced increase of serum triglyceride lowered by SHP treatment. Conclusions : The SHP treatment showed protective effect on diabetic mouse model, and action mechanism of the effect was thought to be concerned with anti-oxidative stress.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to report the effect of acupuncture on the splenius muscle and the effect of combined Korean medicine treatment on acute dizziness in patients due to whiplash injury. Methods: Three patients with acute dizziness were treated with acupuncture of the splenius muscle and combined Korean medicine. A numeric rating scale (NRS) and the Korean dizziness handicap inventory (K-DHI) were checked every day from admission to discharge to confirm symptom improvements. Results: In the acute stage of dizziness caused by whiplash injury, acupuncture of the splenius muscle and combined Korean medicine improved the NRS and K-DHI scores. Conclusions: For patients with acute dizziness caused by whiplash injury, a combination of acupuncture on the splenius muscle and Korean medicine treatment may be a solution.

To examine the efficacy of electrical acupuncture combined bee venom in controlling low back with leg pain induced Herniated Intervertebral Disc (HIVD). 13 patients (men 8, women 5; age $41.30\;{\pm}\;17.27$) diagnosed as HIVD by CT or MRI had low back and leg pain as a chief complaint and diseases such as spinal tumor, infection and fracture were excluded. They were treated by electrical acupuncture (8 Hz) combined bee venom therapy three times a week in Wonkwang University Hospital, and pain intensity with VAS and functioning with Roland-Morris Disability Qestionnaire(RDQ) were measured at the baseline(B), and 4 weeks after treatment. The data were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed ranks test(SPSS12.0) and the level set for statistical significance was P<0.05. The pain was significantly reduced by two combined treatments (=0.002;$B7.69{\pm}2.06$,4Wks$4.70{\pm}2.72$). The function was also significantly improved by both treatments(=0.001;$B12.15{\pm}6.85$,4Wks$6.85{\pm}5.15$). The results suggest that a combination of acupuncture and bee venom therapy may be beneficial for low back pain from HIVD. In future, randomized clinical trials including follow-up are needed to examine the effects of these therapies.

This case study reports the clinical effect of Korean medicine treatment on vascular disease of spinal cord. A 58-year-old female patient was diagnosed as vascular disease of spinal cord and treated with combined Korean medicine treatment such as acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, herbal medication, and physical therapy for 16 days. The patient was assessed for International Standard for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Numeral Rating Scale (NRS). After treatment, total scores of ISNCSCI, BBS, and NRS were numerically improved. Also symptoms of neurogenic bladder were improved. This study suggests that Korean medicine treatment could be effective treatment for vascular disease of spinal cord.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to observe the clinical effects of acupuncture therapy and Ecklonia cava extract on sleep disturbance in ALS patients. Methods : In this study one patient received acupuncture therapy and took Ecklonia cava extract. The effects of the combined administration of these treatments were evaluated using Numeric Rating Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Results : The NRS score for sleep disturbance decreased from 10 to 1 and the PSQI score decreased from between 12~13 to 8. After treatment, the patient stopped taking sleeping pills and antidepressant. Conclusions : Combined administration of acupuncture therapy and Ecklonia cava extract could be effective in improving sleep disturbances in ALS patient.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report a case of a patient efficacy of electromagnetic acupuncture using Whata 153 in facial nerve palsy in Herpes zoster oticus. Methods : We treated the patient with magnetic acupuncture combined with electro-acupuncture. Acupuncture points were at the face (BL2, GB14, TE23, ST4, ST6, ST3). All the acupuncture points were stimulated with magnetic field and 4 of them were combined with electro-acupuncture. Results & Conclusions : The improvement of facial movement and symptom was evaluated by Yanagihara grading system(Y-system), House-Brackmann scale(HB scale) and Sunnybrook facial grading system(SFGS). After treatment, all of the scales(Y-system, HB scale and SFGS) and symptom of the patient were improved. From the above results, we suggest that magnetic acupuncture and electro-acupuncture might be effective on facial nerve palsy in Herpes zoster oticus.
