  • The object of this work was to investigate the influence of growing district and harvest year on calibration for sweetness (Brix) determination of Fuji apple fruit using near infrared (NIR) reflectance spectroscopy, and to develop the robust calibration across these variation. The calibration models was based on wavelength range of 1100∼2500 nm using a stepwise multiple linear regression. A calibration model by sample set of one growing district was not transferable to other growing districts. The combined calibration (data of three growing districts) predicted reasonable well against a population set drawn from all growing districts (SEP=0.69, Bias=0.075). A calibration model by sample set of one harvest year was not also transferable to other harvest years. The combined calibration (data of three harvest years) predicted well against a population set drawn from all harvest years (SEP=0.53, Bias=0.004).

  • In this paper a two dimensional network adjustment theory is developed to analyze the plane trilateration network of single triangle network, of quadrilateral network, of polygon trilateration network and of combined network. The characteristics of error were analysed by developing an error propagation equation for each form of plane trilateration network. In case of combined network, the result of error analysis was represented by error ellipses and gross error detection was carried out by data snooping method.

  • Pollution loading of Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) is frequently over the capacity of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) receiving the water. The objectives of this study are to investigate water quality of CSOs in Anmyun-ueup, Tean province and to apply Storm Water Management Model to predict flow rate and water quality of the CSOs. The capacity of a local WWTP was also estimated according to rainfall duration and intensity. Eleven water quality parameters were analyzed to characterize overflows. SWMM model was applied to predict the flow rate and pollutant load of CSOs during rain event. Overall, profile of the flow and pollutant load predicted by the model well followed the observed data. Based on model prediction and observed data, CSOs frequently occurs in the study area, even with light precipitation or short rainfall duration. Model analysis also indicated that the local WWTP’s capacity was short to cover the CSOs.

  • In this paper, we consider the control charts applicable to monitoring the change of the population mean for sequentially observed individual data. The most representative control charts are Shewhart's individual control chart, the exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart, and their combined control chart. We compare their performance based on a simulation study, and also, through real data analysis, we present how to apply control charts in practical application and investigate the problems of each control chart.

  • Recently estimating the uncertainty of an analytical result has become an essential part of quantitative analysis. This study describes the uncertainty of the measurement for the determination of methamphetamine and its major metabolite amphetamine in human hair, The method consists of washing, drying, weighing, incubation and extraction with methanolic HCI solution, clean-up, trifluoroacetyl derivatization, and qualification/quantification of residues by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Traceability of measurement was established through traceable standards and calibrated volumetric equipment and measuring instruments. Measurement uncertainty associated with each analyte in real samples was estimated using quality control (QC) data. The main source of combined standard uncertainty comprised two components, which are uncertainties associated with calibration linearity and variations in QC, while those associated with preparation of analytical standards and sample weighing were not so important considering the degree of contribution. Relative combined standard uncertainties associated with the described method ranged for individual analytes from 4.99 to5.03%.

  • The use of hexagonal ceramic inserts for copper extrusion dies offers significant technical and economic advantages over other forms of manufacture. In this paper the data on the loading of the tools is determined from a commercial FEM package as the contact stress distribution on the die-workpiece interface and as temperature distributions in the die. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the design, and a data exchange program has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine the stress conditions on the ceramic insert by considering contact and interference effects under both mechanical and thermal loads.

  • Abnormal data in the manufacturing process makes it difficult to find useful information that can be applied in data management for the manufacturing industry. It causes various problems in the daily process of production. An issue from the abnormal data can be handled by our method that uses big data and visualization. Visualization is a new technology that transforms data representation into a two-dimensional representation. Nowadays, many newly developed technologies provide data analysis, algorithm, optimization, and high efficiency, and they meet user requirements. We propose combined production of the data visualization approach that uses integrative visualization of sources of abnormal pattern analysis results. The perceived idea of the proposed approach can solve the problem as it also works for big data. It can also improve the performance and understanding by using visualization and solving issues that occur in the manufacturing process with a calendar heat map.

  • This study analysed determinants of Foreign Direct Investment to ASEAN+ 3 member nations using panel data for which cross-sectional data are combined with time series data. The data for the analysis included the amount of FDI, GDP, and indexes of economic independence. This study collected data from six nations(Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) whose data were easily available, China and Japan from 2003 to 2007 and analysed them. The results are summarized as follows: Using the pooled OLS method, we found Model 2 had the highest explanatory power whose adjusted R-squared was 89.4%, which accounted for about 89% of foreign investment. Using the fixed effect model, Model 2 had the highest explanatory power whose adjusted R-squared was 96.8%, which accounted for about 97% of foreign investment. Using the probability effect model, Model 5 had the highest explanatory power, but in respect to its statistical significance, only GDP was 1% significant and the rest variables had no significance.
