  • In this study, we performed a cross-combination test using offspring from two paternal and five maternal parent stock lines to produce a new synthetic breed of Korean native commercial chickens. The survival rate, body weight, feed intake, and feed efficiency were measured for 10 crosses, with 837 Hanhyup-3 chickens used as a control. Most chickens had brown-based feathers, and there was little difference in color phenotypes among combinations. The average survival rate of the combinations was 94.9%, which was significantly different from that of Hanhyup-3 at 75.3% (P<0.01). There was significant differences in body weight among the combinations at all weeks of age (P<0.01). At 10 weeks of age, the FHHY combination was the heaviest with 2,300 g, while the weight of Hanhyup-3 was 1,922 g. In addition, the weight difference between the male and female chickens was 458 g. As a result of regression analysis, the duration needed to reach 1.9 kg was about 61 days for the FHFY, FHHY, and HFFY combinations, and 70 days for Hanhyup-3, exhibiting a 9-day difference. The average feed conversion ratio of the combinations until 10 weeks was 2.42, which was significantly different from that of Hanhyup-3 at 2.97 (P<0.01). In conclusion, FHHY, FHFY, and HFFY were determined to be the best new breed combinations based on production capacity. When these combinations are used as new commercial breeds, they are expected to increase the average weight by 18% and improve feed efficiency by 19%, as compared to the existing Hanhyup-3 breed.

  • We conducted a 5 × 5 diallel cross-combination test using 1,060 chickens from pure lines of Korean Rhode-C, -D, Korean Leghorn-F, -K, and Korean Native Yellowish-brown chicken (KNC-Y) to develop a new Korean native chicken layer breeder. The laying performance and combining ability, including livability, body weight, age of first egg-laying, hen-day egg production, and egg weight, were analyzed. The livability from birth to 48 weeks was 72.1±24.0%, with the highest observed in the YC and the lowest in the DK combination (P<0.01). The YC combination exhibited the highest general combining ability (GCA), while the YD combination showed the highest specific combining ability (SCA). Regarding body weight, combinations involving Leghorn showed lighter weights compared to combinations with Rhode and KNC-Y (P<0.01). Additionally, the offspring from the KNC-Y combination reached sexual maturity earlier than those from the Rhode combination. The hen-day egg production was 70.7±12.0%, with the highest seen in the CK combination at 86% (P<0.01). The effects of GCA and SCA on hen-day egg production were similar, with the SCA being highest in the YD combination and the GCA being highest in the Rhode-C. Significant differences in egg weight were observed among the combinations, with the eggs from Rhode and Leghorn combinations being heavier than those from combinations with KNC-Y (P<0.01). In conclusion, the YC and YD combinations, characterized by excellent livability, are highly desirable paternal strains, while the CF and CK combinations, with excellent laying performance and moderate egg weight, are preferred maternal strains for Korean native chicken layer breeders.

  • This study conducted a diallel-crossbreeding test using four Korean native chicken parent stock lines (YC, YD, CK, and CF) to develop a native commercial layer with high egg-laying performance. A total of 312 chickens in six combinations were examined for various traits, including livability, body weight, age at first egg-laying, hen-day, and hen-housed egg production, egg weight, and egg quality, from hatching to 60 weeks of age. The results showed that the average survival rate was 77.1±18.8% with the YDYC combination having the highest survival rate along with excellent specific combining ability. The YDYC combination exhibited significantly higher body weight compared to the other combinations (P<0.01). The average age at first egg-laying was 121.3±2.5 days, with no significant difference between the combinations. The average hen-day egg production was 74.0±6.4%, and the hen-housed egg production was 181.4±33.8 eggs with the YDCF and YCCK combinations demonstrating the highest laying performance, while the YDYC and CKCF combinations had the lowest (P<0.05). Laying performance was more influenced by specific combining ability than general combining ability. The eggs from the YDYC combination were significantly lighter and had the darkest shell color (P<0.01), whereas the YDCF combination exhibited the thickest eggshells. There was no difference in internal egg quality among combinations, except the YDCF combination had the darkest yolk color. Overall, we concluded that the YCCK combination, characterized by high laying performance and livability, and the YDCF combination with high laying performance and good egg quality are the most desirable combinations for Korean native commercial layers.

  • In the design of a complementary electrochromic windows based on $WO_3/Li^+$ conducting electrolyte/$V_2O_5$ system, a characterization of electrochromic properties of $WO_3/V_2O_5$ complementary devices as a function of thickness combinations is necessary in order to predict such as the safe operating voltage, the optical modulation range and the optical switching response. In this paper, the effects of $WO_3\;and\;V_2O_5$ thin films thickness combinations on device performance were systematically investigated.

  • In trajectory-based navigation systems, a huge amount of trajectory data is needed for efficient route explorations. However, it would be very hard to collect trajectories from all the possible start and destination combinations. To provide a practical solution to this problem, we suggest a method combining collected GPS trajectories data into additional generated trajectories with new start and destination combinations without road information. We present a trajectory combination algorithm and its implementation with Scala programming language on Spark platform for big data processing. The experimental results proved that the proposed method can effectively populate the collected trajectories into valid trajectory paths more than three hundred times.

  • Ultra High Performance Cementitious Composites with compressive strength 200MPa (UHPCC-200) is proposed for the structural design of super high hybrid wind turbine tower to gain durability, ductility and high strength design objectives. The minimal wall thickness is analyzed using basic bending and compression theory and is modified by a toque influence coefficient. Two cases of wall thickness combination of middle and bottom segment including varied ratio and constant ratio are considered within typical wall thickness dimension. Using nonlinear finite element analysis, the effects of wall thickness combinations with varied and constant ratio and prestress on the structural stress and lateral displacement are calculated and analyzed. The design limitation of the segmental wall thickness combinations is recommended.

  • The effect of mechanical factors and season of the year on milking characteristics (milk yield, time of milking, rate of milk flow, stripping time and tripping milk) were studied on 26 Holstein Friesian cows, raised under Saudi Arabia environmental conditions. Cows were in the third and fourth lactation and reached the peak. Cows milked twice a day with equal intervals. Three vacuum levels (34, 38 and 42 cfm) and two pulsation ratios were used to form six vacuum-pulsation combinations. The study was carried during two seasons Autumn-Winter (S1) and Spring-Summer (S2). After absorbing the cow equations least square analysis was used to analyze the data. Vacuum level 38 cfm and pulsation ratio 70:30 was the best among all combinations of vacuum level-pulsation ratio. No significant effect (p < .01) for season, up to the seventh half minute, on the rate of milk flow. However, season of the year has a significant effect on total milk yield, stripping time and stripping milk.

  • A sensitivity analysis estimates the effect of the change in the uncertain variable parameter on the probability of the structural failure. A novel fuzzy random reliability sensitivity measure of the failure probability is proposed to consider the effect of the epistemic and aleatory uncertainties. The uncertainties of the engineering variables are modeled as fuzzy random variables. Fuzzy quantities are treated using the ${\lambda}$-cut approach. In fact, the fuzzy variables are transformed into the interval variables using the ${\lambda}$-cut approach. Genetic approach considers different possible combinations within the search domain (${\lambda}$-cut) and calculates the parameter sensitivities for each of the combinations.

  • This article investigates various transcription techniques for the Legendre pseudospectral (PS) method to compare the pros and cons of each approach. Eight combinations from four different types of collocation points and two discretization methods for dynamic constraints, which differentiate Legendre PS transcription techniques, are implemented to solve a carefully selected test set of nonlinear optimal control problems (NOCPs). The convergence property and prediction accuracy are compared to provide a useful guideline for selecting the best combination. The tested NOCPs consist of the minimum time, minimum energy, and problems with state and control constraints. Therefore, the results drawn from this comparative study apply to the solution of similar types of NOCPs and can mitigate much debate about the best combinations. Additionally, important findings from this study can be used to improve the numerical efficiency of the Legendre PS methods. Three PS applications to the aerospace engineering problems are demonstrated to prove this point.
