Many types of upper lip reconstruction have been introduced to treat defects after a tumor excision or trauma. The authors treated two cases of upper lip defects. A 35-year-old woman presented with a squamous cell carcinoma of the left upper lip that had invaded the corner of the mouth. After resecting the tumor, the defect was $3.7{\times}3.5cm$ in size. A 52-year-old woman presented with a dog bite of the right upper lip. The defect measured $4.0{\times}2.2cm$ in size. The two cases were reconstructed by combined rotation and advancement of a cheek flap. This technique produced a good functional outcome that allowed for oral competence and created an opening of adequate size. A combination of rotation and an advancement flap can be used to treat upper lip defects in a single-stage procedure. This approach produces a good functional and cosmetic outcome.
Cloudsat satellite data is sensitive to snowfall and collected during each month beginning with Dec 2007 and ending Feb 2008. In this study, we attempt to develop a snowfall retrieval algorithm using a combination of radiometer and cloud radar data. We trained data from the relation between brightness temperature measurements from NOAA's Advanced Microwave Sounder Unit-B(AMSU-B) and the radar reflectivity of the 2B-GEOPROF product from W-band(94 GHz) cloud radar onboard Cloudsat and applied it to the Korea peninsula. We use a principal components analysis to quantify the variations that are the result of the radiometric signatures of snowfall from those of the surface. Finally, we quantify the correlation between the higher principal component (orthogonal to surface variability) of the microwave radiances and the precipitation-sensitive CloudSat radar reflectivities. This work summarizes the results of applying this approach to observations over the East Sea during Feb. 2008. The retrieved data show reasonable estimation for snowfall rate compared with Cloudsat vertical image.

Ranked set sampling, as introduced by McIntyre (Australian Journal of Agriculture Research, 3, 385-390, 1952), dealt with the estimation of the mean of one population. To deal with two or more variables, different forms of bivariate and multivariate ranked set sampling were suggested. For a technique to be useful, it should be easy to implement in practice. Bivariate ranked set sampling, as introduced by Al-Saleh and Zheng (Australian & New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 44, 221-232, 2002), is not easy to implement in practice, because it requires the judgment ranking of each of the combination of the order statistics of the two characteristics. This paper investigates two modifications that make the method easier to use. The first modification is based on ranking one variable and noting the rank of the other variable for one cycle, and do the reverse for another cycle. The second approach is based on ranking of one variable and giving the second variable the same rank (Concomitant Order Statistic) for one cycle and do the reverse for the other cycle. The two procedures are investigated for an estimation of the means of some well-known distributions. It is show that the suggested approaches can be used in practice and can be more efficient than using SRS. A real data set is used to illustrate the procedure.

This paper presents a novel method to determine sound power level(PWL) emitted by a travelling vehicle for road traffic noise simulation. The PWL is evaluated by the equivalent sound pressure level(SPL) measured by close proximity method and the sound power correction factor derived from the maximum SPL measured by pass-by method and the propagation attenuation of vehicle noise during the pass-by measurement. Using the method, we derive the empirical formula for PWL estimation in 1/1-octave and overall frequency bands for 8 vehicles(automobile, SUV, small truck, large bus, trailer, 3 dump trucks) tested at two road surfaces(dense graded asphalt, 30mm transverse tinning concrete) of Korean highway test road. The suggested approach, if securing sufficient data to represent the acoustic characteristics of au vehicle types, has a strong merit to be able to evaluate sound power levels for any combination of vehicle categories and traffic volumes.
The structural formation of inorganic nanoparticles dispersed in polymer matrices is a key technology for producing advanced nanocomposites with a unique combination of optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. Barium titanate ($BaTiO_3$) nanoparticles are attractive for increasing the refractive index and dielectric constant of polymer nanocomposites. Current synthesis processes for $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles require expensive precursors or organic solvents, complicated steps, and long reaction times. In this study, we demonstrate a simple and continuous approach for synthesizing $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles based on a salt-assisted ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. This process allows the synthesis of $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles with diameters of 20-50 nm and a highly crystalline tetragonal structure. The optical properties and photocatalytic activities of the nanoparticles show that they are suitable for use as fillers in various nanocomposites.
Humanoid robot is the most intimate robot platform suitable for human interaction and services. Biped walking is its basic locomotion method, which is performed with combination of joint actuator's rotations in the lower extremity. The present work employs humanoid robot simulator and numerical optimization method to generate optimal joint trajectories for biped walking. The simulator is developed with Matlab based on the robot structure constructed with the Denavit-Hartenberg (DH) convention. Particle swarm optimization method minimizes the cost function for biped walking associated with performance index such as altitude trajectory of clearance foot and stability index concerning zero moment point (ZMP) trajectory. In this paper, instead of checking whether ZMP's position is inside the stable region or not, reference ZMP trajectory is approximately configured with feature points by which piece-wise linear trajectory can be drawn, and difference of reference ZMP and actual one at each sampling time is added to the cost function. The optimized joint trajectories realize three phases of stable gait including initial, periodic, and final steps. For validation of the proposed approach, a small-sized humanoid robot named DARwIn-OP is commanded to walk with the optimized joint trajectories, and the walking result is successful.

Tidal asymmetry and the associated sediment dynamics in the Keum River Estuary has been investigated from a numerical tidal model. Modeling efforts were focussed on the simulation of large drying sandflat exposed at the mouth of the Estuary and dynamic combination of two-dimensional estuary model and one-dimensional river model. Despite strong frictional attenuation within the estuary, the M4 tides reach significant amplitude, resulting in strong tidal distortion. Model results show that the asymmetry over the area exhibit more intense flood flows transport than do less intense ebb flows of longer duration. This causes filling of the estuary as evidenced by large sandflats spread over the inner area. The spatial distribution of peak bottom stress computed from the tidal model suggest that present tidal sedimentation regime may be altered significantly, especially in the approach channel to outer Kunsan port and downstream part of the dike, due to the construction of cross-channel barrier.

The development of new multimedia techniques such as 3D printing is increasingly attracting the public's attention towards 3D objects. An optimized robust and imperceptible watermarking method based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Weber Law is proposed for 3D polygonal models. The proposed approach partitions the host model into smaller sub meshes and generates a secret watermark from the sub meshes using Weber Law. ACO based optimized strength factor is identified for embedding the watermark. The secret watermark is embedded and extracted on the wavelet domain. The proposed scheme is robust against geometric and photometric attacks that overcomes the synchronization problem and authenticates the secret watermark from the distorted models. The primary characteristic of the proposed system is the flexibility achieved in data embedding capacity due to the optimized strength factor. Extensive simulation results shows enhanced performance of the recommended framework and robustness towards the most common attacks like geometric transformations, noise, cropping, mesh smoothening, and the combination of such attacks.

With the fast-developing of mobile terminals, positioning techniques based on fingerprinting method draws attention from many researchers even world famous companies. To conquer some shortcomings of the existing fingerprinting systems and further improve its performance, we propose a radio map building and updating technique, which is able to customize the spatial and temporal dependency of radio maps. The method includes indoor propagation and penetration modeling and the analysis of human traffic. Based on the combination of Ray-Tracing Algorithm, Finite-Different Time-Domain and Rough Set Theory, the approach of indoor propagation modeling accurately represents the spatial dependency of the radio map. In terms of temporal dependency, we specifically study the factor of moving people in the interest area. With measurement and statistics, the factor of human traffic is introduced as the temporal updating component. We improve our existing indoor positioning system with the proposed building and updating method, and compare the localization accuracy. The results show that the enhanced system can conquer the influence caused by moving people, and maintain the confidence probability stable during week, which enhance the actual availability and robustness of fingerprinting-based indoor positioning system.

The construction of panoramic images on smartphones and low-powered devices is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a new approach for smoothly stitching images on mobile phones in the presence of moving objects in the scene. Our main contributions include handling moving object problems, reducing processing time, and generating rectangular panoramic images. First, unique and robust feature points are extracted using fast ORB method and a feature matching technique is applied to match the extracted feature points. After obtaining good matched feature points, we employ the non-deterministic RANSAC algorithm to discard wrong matches, and the hommography transformation matrix parameters are estimated with the algorithm. Afterward, we determine precise overlap regions of neighboring images and calculate their absolute differences. Then, thresholding operation and noise removal filtering are applied to create a mask of possible moving object regions. Sequentially, an optimal seam is estimated using dynamic programming algorithm, and a combination of linear blending with the mask information is applied to avoid seam transition and ghosting artifacts. Finally, image-cropping operation is utilized to obtain a rectangular boundary image from the stitched image. Experiments demonstrate that our method is able to produce panoramic images quickly despite the existence of moving objects.
