The Development of Rule-based AI Engagement Model for Air-to-Air Combat Simulation (공대공 전투 모의를 위한 규칙기반 AI 교전 모델 개발)

  • Since the concept of Manned-UnManned Teaming(MUM-T) and Unmanned Aircraft System(UAS) can efficiently respond to rapidly changing battle space, many studies are being conducted as key components of the mosaic warfare environment. In this paper, we propose a rule-based AI engagement model based on Basic Fighter Maneuver(BFM) capable of Within-Visual-Range(WVR) air-to-air combat and a simulation environment in which human pilots can participate. In order to develop a rule-based AI engagement model that can pilot a fighter with a 6-DOF dynamics model, tactical manuals and human pilot experience were configured as knowledge specifications and modeled as a behavior tree structure. Based on this, we improved the shortcomings of existing air combat models. The proposed model not only showed a 100 % winning rate in engagement with human pilots, but also visualized decision-making processes such as tactical situations and maneuvering behaviors in real time. We expect that the results of this research will serve as a basis for development of various AI-based engagement models and simulators for human pilot training and embedded software test platform for fighter.

  • We suggest the C2 modeling method to develop a simulation model for training command groups which consist of commanders and staffs. By using C2 models in constructive simulation models, combat entities or units directly receive and execute orders from a command group without mediating human role players. We also compare combat results from suggested modeling method with the results of existing models by building and implementing a simulation model with C2 models. Our analysis by comparison demonstrates advantages of suggested method to model C2 for computer assisted exercises.

An Electronic Strategy in Innovative Learning Situations and the Design of a Digital Application for Individual Learning to Combat Deviant Intellectual Currents in Light of the Saudi Vision 2030

  • The study aimed to build an electronic strategy in innovative learning situations for the role of education in combating intellectual currents. A total of 525 Saudi university faculty members and general education teachers were surveyed using two electronic questionnaires. Arithmetic averages and standard deviations, One-way ANOVA, Scheffé's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's alpha stability coefficient were used as statistical methods. The study statistically identifies the differences between the study sample at the level of significance (0.05). and the design of a digital application for individual learning to combat deviant intellectual currents to activate them in light of Saudi Vision 2030 by combining the theoretical academic material and turning it into a learning e-game called (crosswords). The game is equipped with hyper media that supports education with entertainment to direct ideas towards the promotion of identity, the development of values towards moderation and the consolidation of intellectual security. Additionally, the learning e-game represents awareness messages in three short films to activate the role of curricula and intellectual awareness centers to apply realistically, innovatively, and effectively.

  • The AR/VR-based education and training system is expected to contribute greatly to accident prevention and budget reduction as well as practical training effects similar to the battlefield environment. Research to use AR/VR for learning is ongoing, and technology can be improved without experiencing failures that can occur in the real world. Major advanced countries in defense recognized the advantages of AR/VR technology early on, and developed and utilized systems using them in various fields, from mastery of individual weapon system operation to comprehensive combat training systems, war history education, and post-traumatic stress treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the cases of AR/VR application education and training in advanced defense countries and to draw implications for the South Korean military.

A study on improving leadership of reserve officers' training corps (ROTC) (학군장교 (ROTC) 리더십 향상 방안 연구)

  • ROTC is the system that selects the best students in university and implements the military training of two years and uses them as beginning commander of the army by commissioning as officers. ROTC makes up a very large portion of the army and society in Korea in terms of the size and role. Therefore, it is very important to enhance intangible combat power of the Korean army by improving leadership of primary grade officer from ROTC. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether or not ROTC candidate training program is providing the right training, so as to improve ROTC's leadership and present improvement plan. First, we divide ROTC candidate training program into three areas and take the 1st and 2nd survey. Then we compare and analyze the actual condition and recognition of investigation using statistical analysis methods such as chi-square test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. Also, we analyze the element affecting the army leader's three qualities formation which are basic elements of ROTC cadet's leadership using multiple regression analysis.

A Study on the Analysis of Miles Training Effect (마일즈 훈련효과 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The Army is constructing a training system using Miles equipment that applies the latest science and technology to carry out military training. The Miles training system is a system that uses Miles equipment to simulate the damage situation of combat personnel and equipment in the same way as an actual battlefield by conducting practiced maneuvers in the field. Through this, the training force can experience conditions similar to an actual battle. In particular, the training effects of the warriors participating in the training can be maximized by establishing an integrated system that utilizes cutting-edge science technologies, such as information communication and computer simulation. This study analyzed the effects of Miles training in the army using scientific techniques targeted at the mid-range Miles. In particular, the effect index for analyzing the training effect was derived from a literature survey and expert opinions. The weight of each effect index was calculated by applying the Swing method. The final training effect was calculated by combining the results of the survey from train-experienced people. The Miles training effect was 2.6 times more effective than previous training without using Miles, and the satisfaction rate with Miles training according to status was high through variance analysis, and the difference was statistically significant.

  • In Korea, the training is performed through independent environments without interoperability among L-V-C systems. In the L system, training for large units is limited due to civil complaints at the training grounds and road restrictions. The V system is insufficient in training related to tactical training, and the C system lacks practicality due to a lack of combat friction elements. To achieve synchronicity and integration training between upper and lower units, it is necessary to establish a system to ensure integrated training for each unit by interoperating the currently operating L, V, and C systems. The interoperability between the C-C system supports Korea-US Combined Exercise. On the other hand, the actual development of the training system through the interoperability of L, V, and C has not been made. Although efforts are being made to establish the L, V, and C system centering on the Army, the joint composite battlefield and LVC integrated architecture technology are not yet secured. Therefore, this paper proposes a new plan for the future training system by designing and implementing the LVC integrated architecture technology, which is the core technology that can build the L-V-C interoperability training system. In conclusion, a division-level L-V-C interoperability training system can be established in the future by securing the LVC integrated architecture technology.

  • Recently, major advanced countries are fostering megacities through policy for reasons such as solving population problems, political and economic issues, and strengthening national competitiveness. The trend of change is accelerating. In Korea, following Seoul and Gyeonggi, mega city policies are being promoted in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Gwangju and Jeonnam, and Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong areas. Due to this urbanization phenomenon, military experts predict that the future battlefield environment will be space or a large city (mega city). From this perspective, Korea will not be able to effectively respond to the threats facing megacities if it does not prepare in advance. Therefore, underground facility operation capabilities optimized for the huge scale of the mega city and the characteristics of the underground operational environment are required. Against this background, the characteristics of the underground operational environment of mega cities and cases of preparation for underground facility operations in advanced military countries such as the United States and Israel were analyzed. Based on this, the capabilities required for underground facility operations suitable for the underground operational environment within Korean megacities are developed from an idea perspective to military organization and combat system, securing special equipment and materials to ensure combatant survival, developing small unit combat techniques, and establishing a training system.   • The rapid growth of virtual reality technology in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution has accelerated scientification of combat training systems in addition to ICT(information and communications technology) in military field. Recently, research and development of simulators based on virtual reality have been actively conducted in order to solve sensitive issues such as increase of civil complaints due to the noise of a shooting range, prevention of shooting accident, and reduction of training cost. In this paper, we propose two key solutions: spatial synchronization method and modified point mass trajectory model with small angle approximation to overcome technical limitations of a current training simulator. A trainee who wears a haptic vest in a mixed reality environment built in MARS(medium-range assault rifle shooting simulator) is able to conduct not only precision shooting but also two-way engagement with virtual opponents. It is possible for trainee to receive more reliable evaluations in the MARS than an existing rifle simulator based on laser.

Training of Future Specialists in Modern Conditions: Cultural Aspects

  • An increasing number of students from different cultures study in higher primary schools. This trend is due to: 1) the government's discourse on increasing the level of participation of foreign students in national educational programs and the need for internationalization; 2) the need of employers for professionals who are trained to work in a multicultural environment to meet the needs of different markets and customers. Methodology. This study is based on the results of the OECD (2018) structured survey of 1,093 teachers at universities in Australia, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Georgia, Malta, Vietnam, Turkey, and Argentina, examined policy, the practice of cultural characteristics in training specialists, and teachers' attitudes to cultural diversity. Results. The attitude and perception of cultural features by teachers does not determine the practice of forming a cultural environment and managing this environment to ensure quality education of students of different nations. The main culturological aspects of training are self-expression of cultural and ethnic identities, expression of cultural characteristics and their value through multicultural activities in universities, teaching students to combat ethnic or cultural discrimination. Therefore, the formation of a multicultural environment in higher education occurs through the activities of students and teachers, which complement each other. The practical value lies in identifying two important components of the formation of cultural diversity among students, such as self-expression of ethnic and cultural identity and the expression of cultural differences by teachers in the course of educational activities.
