  • Hand shape recognition is a fundamental technique for implementing natural human-computer interaction. In this paper, we discuss a method for effectively detecting a hand region in Kinect-based hand shape recognition. Since Kinect is a camera that can capture color images and infrared images (or depth images) together, both images can be exploited for the process of detecting a hand region. That is, a hand region can be detected by finding pixels having skin colors or by finding pixels having a specific depth. Therefore, after analyzing the performance of each, we need a method of properly combining both to clearly extract the silhouette of hand region. This is because the hand shape recognition rate depends on the fineness of detected silhouette. Finally, through comparison of hand shape recognition rates resulted from different hand region detection methods in general environments, we propose a high-performance hand region detection method.

  • This paper presents a problem of existing encryption methods using pseudo-random numbers based on MLCA or complemented MLCA and proposes a method to resolve this problem. The existing encryption methods have a problem which the edge of original image appear on encrypted image because the image have color similarity of adjacent pixels. In this proposed method, we transform the value and spatial coordinates of all pixels by using pseudo-random numbers based on MLCA. This method can resolve the problem of existing methods and improve the level of encryption by encrypting pixel coordinates and pixel values of original image. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by conducting histogram and key space analysis.

  • Kinect released by Microsoft in November 2010 is a motion sensing camera in xbox360 and gives depth and color images. However, Kinect camera also generates holes and noise around object boundaries in the obtained images because it uses infrared pattern. Also, boundary flickering phenomenon occurs. Therefore, we propose a real-time virtual-view video synthesis algorithm which results in a high-quality virtual view by solving these problems. In the proposed algorithm, holes around the boundary are filled by using the joint bilateral filter. Color image is converted into intensity image and then flickering pixels are searched by analyzing the variation of intensity and depth images. Finally, boundary flickering phenomenon can be reduced by converting values of flickering pixels into the maximum pixel value of a previous depth image and virtual views are generated by applying 3D warping technique. Holes existing on regions that are not part of occlusion region are also filled with a center pixel value of the highest reliability block after the final block reliability is calculated by using a block based gradient searching algorithm with block reliability. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm generated the virtual view image in real-time.

  • The aim of the estimation of disparity map is to find the corresponding pixels from similar two or more images. However, it is a difficult problem to get precise and consistent disparity under a variety of real world situations. In other words, the color values of stereo images are easily influenced by radiometric properties such as illumination direction, illumination color, and camera exposure. Therefore, conventional stereo matching methods can have low performances under radiometric conditions. In this paper, we propose an approaching of disparity map estimation that is reliable in controlling various radiometric variations close to the real environment. This method is motivated by following constancy. Even though each other has different radiometric property in stereo images, intensity of pixels of object have general constancy in specific block. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performances compared to the comparison group under different radiometric conditions between stereo images. Consequentially, the proposed method is able to estimate the disparity map in stable under various radiometric variations.

  • Video Completion refers to a computer vision technique which restores damaged images by filling missing pixels with suitable color in a video sequence. We propose a new video completion technique to fill in image holes which are caused by removing an unnecessary object in a video sequence, where two objects cross each other in the presence of camera motion. We remove the closer object from a camera which results in image holes. Then these holes are filled by color information of some others frames. First of all, spatio-temporal volumes of occluding and occluded objects are created according to the centroid of the objects. Secondly, a temporal search technique by voxel matching separates and removes the occluding object. Finally. these holes are filled by using spatial search technique. Seams on the boundary of completed pixels we removed by a simple blending technique. Experimental results using real video sequences show that the proposed technique produces new completed videos.

  • This paper presents a problem of the existing encryption method using MLCA or complemented MLCA and propose a method to resolve this problem. With the existing encryption methods, the result of encryption is affected by the original image because of spatial redundancy of adjacent pixels. In this proposed method, we transform spatial coordinates of all pixels into encrypted coordinates. We also encrypt color values of the original image by operating XOR with pseudo-random numbers. This can solve the problem of existing methods and improve the levels of encryption by randomly encrypting pixel coordinates and pixel values of original image. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by conducting histogram, key space analysis.

  • In this paper, we designed 3D graphics rasterizer with a culling and clipping for the efficient 3D graphics accelerator. The proposed rasterizer is implemented for the mobile system and process frustum culling, back face culling, Y-axis clipping and X-axis clipping. The rasterzier consists of triangle setup, edge walk and span process unit. Each unit of rasterzier is designed with a culling and clipping. It supports goraud shading with 16 bits depth values and 16 bits color values. The estimated performance of proposed rasterizer is 52M pixels per second.

  • The technology and market size of image sensors continue to develop thanks to the release of image sensors that exceed 100 million pixels in 2019 and expansion of black box camera markets for vehicles in addition to existing mobile applications. We review the technology flow of image sensors that have been constantly evolving for 40 years since Hitachi launched a 200,000-pixel image sensor in 1979. Although CCD has made inroads into image sensor market for a while based on good picture quality, CMOS image sensor (CIS) with active pixels has made inroads into the market as semiconductor technology continues to develop, since the electrons generated by the incident light are converted to the electric signals in the pixel, and the power consumption is low. CIS image sensors with superior characteristics such as high resolution, high sensitivity, low power consumption, low noise and vivid color continue to be released as the new technologies are incorporated. At present, new types of structures such as Backside Illumination and Isolation Cell have been adopted, with better sensitivity and high S/N ratio. In the future, new photoconductive materials are expected to be adopted as a light absorption part in place of the pn junction.

  • The digitalization of sea level measurement recording which is recorded as analog type is useful for many related oceanology. In this paper, we propose a method which separates the graph area from a sea level measurement recording image. At first, a pixel that is regarded as the pixel which is included in the graph area is selected. Then, many background pixels are separated using the color of the selected pixel. In each vertical line, a pixel is determined as the pixel within the graph area and the graph area is separated from the image using that pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method in this paper overcome drawbacks of the previous research and can separate the graph area which similar to the graph area of the original image.

  • The paper presents an effective method to detect fire in video surveillance and monitoring system. The main contribution of this work is that we successfully use the Hidden Markov Models in the process of detecting the fire with a few preprocessing steps. First, the moving pixels detected from image difference, the color values obtained from the fire flames, and their pixels clustering are applied to obtain the image regions labeled as fire candidates; secondly, utilizing massive training data, including fire videos and non-fire videos, creates the Hidden Markov Models of fire and non-fire, which are used to make the final decision that whether the frame of the real-time video has fire or not in both temporal and spatial analysis. Experimental results demonstrate that it is not only robust but also has a very low false alarm rate, furthermore, on the ground that the HMM training which takes up the most time of our whole procedure is off-line calculated, the real-time detection and alarm can be well implemented when compared with the other existing methods.
