Recent progress in understanding the molecular basis of cancer brought out new materials such as oligonucleotides, genes, peptides and proteins as a source of new anticancer agents. Due to their macromolecular properties, however, new strategies of delivery for them are required to achieve their full therapeutic efficacy in clinical setting. Development of improved dosage forms of currently marketed anticancer drugs can also enhance their therapeutic values. Currently developed delivery systems for anticancer agents include colloidal systems (liposomes, emulsions, nanoparticles and micelles), polymer implants and polymer conjugates. These delivery systems have been able to provide enhanced therapeutic activity and reduced toxicity of anticancer agents mainly by altering their pharmacokinetics and biodistribution. Furthermore, the identification of cell-specific receptor/antigens on cancer cells have brought the development of ligand- or antibody-bearing delivery systems which can be targeted to cancer cells by specific binding to receptors or antigens. They have exhibited specific and selective delivery of anticancer agents to cancer. As a consequence of extensive research, clinical development of anticancer agents utilizing various delivery systems is undergoing worldwide. New technologies and multidisciplinary expertise to develop advanced drug delivery systems, applicable to a wide range of anticancer agents, may eventually lead to an effective cancer therapy in the future.

Intra-molecular association is an important contribution to the overall hydrogen bonding in surfactant systems, especially in systems of colloidal and biological interest. Amphiphile systems, especially micelle and microemulsion systems, showed highly non-ideal behavior due to the intermolecular association and intra-molecular association. The objective of this research is to present a lattice fluid equation of state that combines the quasi-chemical nonrandom lattice fluid model with modified Veytsman statistics for intra + inter molecular association to calculate phase behavior for mixture containing surfactant systems. The lattice model could describe the literature data well for alkane and surfactant systems.
Anchoring quantum dots (QDs) onto thermodynamically stable, large band gap oxide semiconductors is a very important strategy to enhance their quantum yields for solar energy conversion in both visible and near-IR regions. We describe a general procedure for anchoring a few chalcogenide QDs onto the titanium oxide layer. To anchor the colloidal QDs onto a mesoporous TiO2 layer, linker molecules containing both carboxylate and thiol functional groups were initially attached to TiO2 layers and subsequently used to capture dispersed QDs with the thiol group. Employing the procedure, we exploited cadmium selenide (CdSe) and cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) as inorganic sensitizers for a large band gap TiO2 layer of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Their attachment was confirmed by naked eyes, absorption spectra, and photovoltaic effects. A few QD-TiO2 systems thus obtained have been characterized for photoelectrochemical solar energy conversion.

The PbS quantum dot is an emerging photovoltaic material, which may provide high efficiency breakthroughs. The most crucial element for the high efficiency solar cells's development is to understand charge transport characteristics of PbS quantum dot solids, which are also important in planning strategic research. We have investigated charge transport characteristics of PbS quantum dot solids thin films using space charge limited conduction analysis and assessed thickness dependent photovoltaic performances. The extracted carrier drift mobility was $low-10^{-2}cm^2/Vs$ with the estimated diffusion length about 50 nm. These and recently reported values were compared with those from a commercial photovoltaic material, and we present an essential element in further development of PbS quantum dot solids materials.

A new photoelectrode composed of $Sb_6O_{13}$ nanoparticles with the size of 20-30 nm has been prepared via thermolysis of a colloidal antimony pentoxide tetrahydrate ($Sb_2O_5{\cdot}4H_2O$) suspension. The $Sb_6O_{13}$ electrode showed good semiconducting properties applicable to dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs); the energy band gap was estimated to be $3.05{\pm}0.5$ eV and the position of conduction band edge was close to those of $TiO_2$ and ZnO. The DSSC assembled with the $Sb_6O_{13}$ photoelectrode and a conventional ruthenium-dye (N719) exhibited the overall photo-current conversion efficiency of 0.74% ($V_{oc}$ = 0.76 V, $J_{sc}=1.99\;mAcm{-2}$, fill factor = 0.49) under AM 1.5, $100\;mWcm^{-2}$ illumination.
Associating polymers act as flocculants in colloidal suspensions, because the hydrophobic groups (hydrophobes) can adsorb onto particle surfaces and create intermolecular cross-linking. The steady-shear viscosity and dynamic viscoelasticity were measured for suspensions flocculated by multichain bridging of associating polymers. The effects of surfactant on the suspension rheology are studied in relation to the bridging conformation. The surfactant molecule behaves as a displacer and the polymer chains are forced to desorb from the particle surfaces. The overall effect of surfactant is the reduction of suspension viscosity. However, the additions of a small amount of surfactant to suspensions, in which the degree of bridging is low, cause a viscosity increase, although the number of chains forming one bridge is decreased by the forced desorption of associating polymer. Since the polymer chains desorbed from one bridge can form another bridge between bare particles, the bridging density over the system is increased. Therefore, the surfactant adsorption leads to a viscosity increase. The surfactant influences the viscosity in two opposing ways depending on the degree of bridging.

Biomass of non-living brown seaweed Sargassum fluitans pretreated by different methods is capable of taking up more than $10\%$ (11 meq/g) of its dry weight in aluminum at a pH of 4.5. It is indicated that the biomass sequestered the aluminum in the form of polynuclear aluminum species. The fraction of $Al(OH)_3$ Precipitated in the aluminum nitrate solution without biomass at pH 4.5 increased as the Al concentration increased. Aluminum-alginate complex precipitated in the solution as alginate was partially released from the biomass. External colloidal precipitate occurring in native and protonated S. fluitans biomass sorption systems caused a significant difference in Al sorption isotherms determined by standard and desorption methods, respectively, Sodium ions added for pH adjustment were not sorbed at all in the presence of aluminum ions.

The electro-rheological(ER) fluids for smart hydraulic system are a class of colloidal dispersion which exhibit large reversible Changes in their rheological behavior when they are subjected to external electrical fields. This paper presents experimental results on material properties of an ER fluids subjected to electrical fatigues. As a first step, ER fluid is made of methyl cellulose(MC) choosing 25% of particle weight-concentration. Following the construction of test mechanism for durability estimation, the dynamic yield shear stress and the current density for the ER fluids of MC component are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. In addition, the surface roughness of the employed electrode are evaluated as a function of the number of the electric-field cycles.

Effectiveness of the microparticle retention systems in improving drainage, retention, formation has been recognized for many years. In this study the effectiveness of crosslinked cationic corn starches and silica-based microgels as components of Compozil system has been evaluated. It was shown that improvements in retention and strength could be achieved by employing crosslinked cationic corn starches especially at high conductivity. Silica-based microgels with better performance in retention and drainage than a commercial colloidal silica sol have been made through a reaction of sulfuric acid and sodium silicate solutions.

We have produced, characterized and compared different colloidal vehicles based on nanoemulsions. We also have investigated morphology and droplet distribution by means of electron microscope and photon correlation spectroscopy. Nanoemulsion systems characterized by different method on formulations have been obtained. Hydration power has been studied by means of a corneometer, measuring the skin electrical capacitance before and after the application of various type of skin lotions. It has been demonstrated that nanoemulsion with oil or fatty alcohol displayed a pronounced hydration power with respect to the solubilization system. In order to compare the smoothness of the skin after using skin lotion, we have measured the friction force. The skin lotions produced by nanoemulsion technique show improved smoothness of an atopic skin.
