Design of Guidance Law for Docking of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (무인선의 도킹을 위한 유도법칙 설계)

  • This paper proposes a potential field-based guidance law for docking a USV (unmanned surface vehicle). In most cases, a USV without side thrusters is an under-actuated system. Thus, there are undockable regions near docking stations where a USV cannot dock to a docking station without causing a collision or backward motion. This paper suggest a guidance law that prevents a USV from enter such a region by decreasing the lateral error to the docking station at the initial stage of the docking process. A Monte-carlo simulation was performed to validate the performance of the proposed method. The proposed method was compared to conventional guidance laws such as pure pursuit guidance and pure/lead pursuit guidance. As a result, the collision angle and lateral distance error of proposed method tended to have lower values compared to conventional methods.

  • This pacer studied on the lateral motion and yaw motion of the gantry crane which is used for the automated container terminal with two driving wheel types. Though several problems are occcurred in driving of gantry crane, they are solved by the motion by the operators. But, if the gantry crane is unmanned, it is automatically controlled without any operation. There are two types, cone and flat t y pin driving wheel shape. In cone type, lateral vibration and yaw motion of crane are issued. In flat type, the collision between wheel-flange and rail or the fitting between wheel-flanges and rail is issued. Especially, the collision between wheel-flange and rail is a very critical problem in driving of unmanned gantry crane. To bring a solution to the problems, the lateral and yaw dynamic equations of the driving mechanism of gantry crane with two driving wheel types are derived. Then, we investigate the driving characteristics of gantry crane. And this study used PD(Proportional-Derivative) Controller to control the lateral displacement and yaw angle of the gantry crane. The simulation result of the driving mechanism using the Runge-Kutta Method is presented in this paper.

Guidance Law for Agile Turn of Air-to-Air Missile During Boost Phase

  • This paper proposes the guidance laws for an agile turn of air-to-air missiles during the initial boost phase. Optimal solution for the agile turn is obtained based on the optimal control theory with a simplified missile dynamic model. Angle-of-attack command generating methods for completion of agile turn are then proposed from the optimal solution. Collision triangle condition for non-maneuvering target is reviewed and implemented for update of terminal condition for the agile turn. The performance of the proposed method is compared with an existing homing guidance law and the minimum-time optimal solution through simulations under various initial engagement scenarios. Simulation results verify that transition to homing phase after boost phase with the proposed method is more effective than direct usage of the homing guidance law.

  • Numerical analysis is done to investigate the effect of surface treatment of a toilet on the cleanness. The surface treatment using plasma for the super-hydrophobic surface expects the self-cleaning effect of the toilet seat cover for preventing the droplets with a great quantity of bacteria during the toilet flushing after evacuation. In this study, the fluid analysis in the toilet during the flushing was performed by an ultrahigh-speed CCD camera with 1,000 frame/sec and the numerical modeling. And the spattering phenomenon from the toilet surface during urine was analyzed quantitatively by CFD-ACE+ with a free surface model and a mixed model of two fluids. If the surface tension of the toilet surface is weak, many urine droplets after collision bounded in spite of considering the gravity. The turbulence generated by the change of angle and velocity of urine and the variation of the collision phenomenon from toilet surface were modeled numerically.

Path planning on satellite images for unmanned surface vehicles

  • In recent years, the development of autonomous surface vehicles has been a field of increasing research interest. There are two major areas in this field: control theory and path planning. This study focuses on path planning, and two objectives are discussed: path planning for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and implementation of path planning in a real map. In this paper, satellite thermal images are converted into binary images which are used as the maps for the Finite Angle $A^*$ algorithm ($FAA^*$), an advanced $A^*$ algorithm that is used to determine safer and suboptimal paths for USVs. To plan a collision-free path, the algorithm proposed in this article considers the dimensions of surface vehicles. Furthermore, the turning ability of a surface vehicle is also considered, and a constraint condition is introduced to improve the quality of the path planning algorithm, which makes the traveled path smoother. This study also shows a path planning experiment performed on a real satellite thermal image, and the path planning results can be used by an USV.

Study on the Difference of the Maneuvering Characteristics of a VLCC in Standstill from those of her in Running

  • The objective of this paper is to make clear the difference of maneuvering characteristics of a VLCC in standstill from those of her in running. The authors made mathematic models to calculate maneuvering motions of a VLCC in standstill using various ahead engine with full rudder angle and calculated their motions in each case and compared the calculated values with those of the same vessel running in sea trial tests. The difference of motions between them is great. For example, a VLCC in standstill can achieve a great alteration of heading over 90 degrees within the distance of 0.2L advance while she advances 3.0L for 90 degrees turning in full running sea trial turning test. Therefore whenever a VLCC in standstill meets a vessel approaching in collision course situation in near distance, it is better and recommendable that she should use her ahead engine with full rudder to avoid collision. So "maneuvering trial tests in standstill conditions" should be added to the content of sea trial tests when a newly built VLCC commence to take sea trials, that has not been included until now.

Strategies of Collision Avoidance with Moving and Stationary Human Obstacles during Walking (보행 시 인간 장애물의 동적·정적 상태에 따른 충돌회피전략)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the strategies for avoiding moving and stationary walker using body segments during walking. Method: Ten healthy young adults (10 males, age: $24.40{\pm}0.49yrs$, height: $175.80{\pm}5.22cm$, body mass: $70.30{\pm}5.22kg$) participated in this study. Each participant was asked to perform a task to avoid collisions with another walker who was moving or stationary during walking on the 10 m walkway. Both walkers were performed at natural self-selected walking speed. Results: Medio-lateral avoidance displacement of the trunk and the pelvis were significantly increased when avoiding a stationary walker (p<.05). There were no significant differences in medio-lateral center of mass trajectory. Rotation angle of trunk, pelvis and foot on the vertical axis were significantly increased when avoiding a stationary walker (p<.05). Conclusion: Based on our results, when another walker moves continuously, the walker recognizes another walker as the object of social interaction and performs the avoidance strategies while expecting the cooperative distance. On the other hand, when another walker is stopped, it is determined that the walker has an obligation to avoid, and the walker performs a relatively safer avoidance strategy.

  • Research on the safety of autonomous vehicle is being conducted in various countries, including the European Union, and computer simulation techniques so called 'Virtual Tool Chain' are mainly used. As part of the crash safety study of autonomous vehicle, 25 car to car collision scenarios were provided as a result of a real accident-based accident reproduction analysis study conducted by a domestic research institution, and a vehicle crash analysis was performed using the FE car to car model of the Honda Accord. In order to analyze the results of the car to car simulation and to construct a database, major crash parameters were selected as impact speed, angle, location, and overlap, and a method of defining them in an indexed form was presented. In order to compare the crash severity of each scenario, a value obtained by integrating the resultant acceleration measured by the ACU of the vehicle was applied. The equivalent collision test mode was derived by comparing the crash severity of the regulation test mode, 30 deg rigid barrier mode, in the same way.

Analysis of Effect of the Ship's Route Exchange through the Ship Handling Simulation (선박조종 시뮬레이션을 통한 선박 경로 교환의 효과 분석)

  • To prepare the integrated safety management system 'e-navigation', research is being conducted on the route exchange for sharing intended routes between ship and ship, and between ship and land. But they don't have enough specific grounds for the effects of route exchange and the necessity of its introduction and focus on technical aspects like the implementation of route exchange. This study tried to quantitatively analyze the effects of route exchange on sailing safety with the use of ship handling simulation, integrate simulation performers' subjective evaluations, and investigate the effects of route exchange. The ship-to-ship route exchange resulted in the initial collision avoidance action time was 3.43 minutes faster, the collision avoidance direction change rate was 60 %, the proximity to target A was 31 %, and Mean Rudder Angle Index decreased by 57 %. In addition, 95 % of the survey respondents had an effect on the decision making of collision avoidance, 85 % had a positive impact on safety navigation, 90 % had an accident prevention effect, 70 % reduced the psychological burden of officers, and 70 % should be introduced in practice.
