This paper proposes a medium access control protocol for collision detection and resolution when a large number of sensor nodes transmits data in vehicle. The proposed protocol selects a random collision detection (CD) slot after data transmission, suspends its transmission and senses the channel to check whether a collision occurs by the detection of both energy level and jam signal. The proposed scheme uses multiple CD phases and in each CD phase, colliding stations are filtered and only surviving stations compete again in the next CD phase; thus, the collision resolution probability significantly increases. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol using the multiple CD phases has significantly better throughput than the conventional protocol. In addition, according to the number of CD phases and the number of CD slots per phase, the throughput aspect of the proposed scheme is investigated and the optimal parameters are derived.

This paper investigates pedestrian-thrown distance pattern by pedestrian-vehicle collision position by madymo-simulation. The simulation were performed for every 2.5 cm interval between center and edge of bumper for various vehicle speeds and vehicle shapes. As a result, two critical points where thrown distance change rapidly were found. First critical point locate where pedestrian's shoulder do not contact the vehicle. Second point locate where the center of gravity of pedestrian are close to edge of bumper. Between 1st and 2nd critical points, thrown distance decrease rapidly where collision points move to the edge of vehicle. In other cases, the thrown distance does not change rapidly. This result gives more accurate guideline for pedestrian collision in traffic safety.

This experimental study aims to evaluate the impact performance of UHPC exterior panels through high velocity impact tests. The impact performance of UHPC was compared with that of granite in terms of panel thickness, and strain histories were recoded on the rear face of panel specimens. The UHPC turned out to be a good exterior facade material, because the appearance of UHPC is natural enough and impact performance was superior to granite. After colliding, compression pulse reached to the rear face but that pulse was reflected in tension pulse with respect to the free point outside the rear face of the panel. This tension pulse caused the scabbing from the rear side, as the strain histories on the rear face showed three different regions as compression region, steady region and tension region. The shear plug deformation by shear force also was one of the primary reasons for the scabbing based on the observation. Therefore, the scabbing seemed to be affected by both tension and shear forces.
This study analyze the synoptic meteorological cause of rainfall, rainfall intensity, drop size distribution(DSD), fall velocity and oblateness measured by the 2D-Video distrometer(2DVD) by comparing two cases which are heavy rainfall event case and a case that is not classified as heavy rainfall but having more than $30mm\;h^{-1}$ rainrate in July, 2014 at Gimhae region. As a results; Over the high pressure edge area where strong upward motion exists, the convective rain type occurred and near the changma front, convective and frontal rainfall combined rain type occurred. Therefore, rainrate varies based on the synoptic meteorological condition. The most rain drop distribution appeared in the raindrops with diameters between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm and large particles appeared for the convective rain type since strong upward motion provide favorable conditions for the drops to grow by colliding and merging so the drop size distribution varies based on the location or rainfall types. The rainfall phases is mainly rain and as the diameter of the raindrop increase the fall velocity increase and oblateness decrease. The equation proposed based on the 2DVD tends to underestimated both fall velocity and oblateness compared with observation. Since these varies based on the rainfall characteristics of the observation location, standard equation for fall velocity and oblateness fit for Gimhae area can be developed by continuous observation and data collection hereafter.

The prediction of binary droplet collisions is important in the formation of falling drops and the evolution of sprays. The droplet velocity, impact parameter, and drop-size ratio influence the interaction between the droplets. The effect of these parameters results in complicated collision phenomena. Droplet collisions can be classified into four types of interactions: bouncing, coalescence, reflexive separation, and stretching separation. In the present study, the interfacial flow problem of the droplet collision was numerically simulated by using the level set method. 2D axisymmetric simulations on the head-on collisions and 3D simulation on the off-center collisions were performed. The numerical results of droplet behavior after the collision agreed well with the experimental and analytical results. The mixing of the mass of the initial droplets after the collision was also predicted by using different species index of colliding droplets.
This paper presents an image-space algorithm to real-time collision detection, which is run completely by GPU. For a single object or for multiple objects with no collision, the front and back faces appear alternately along the view direction. However, such alternation is violated when objects collide. Based on these observations, the algorithm propose the depth peeling method which renders the minimal surface of objects, not whole surface, to find colliding. The Depth peeling method utilizes the state-of-the-art functionalities of GPU such as framebuffer object, vertexbuffer object, and occlusion query. Combining these functions, multi-pass rendering and context switch can be done with low overhead. Therefore proposed approach has less rendering times and rendering overhead than previous image-space collision detection. The algorithm can handle deformable objects and complex objects, and its precision is governed by the resolution of the render-target-texture. The experimental results show the feasibility of GPU-based collision detection and its performance gain in real-time applications such as 3D games.

A linear explosively formed penetrator(LEFP) is a modification of the explosively formed penetrator(EFP). An EFP is axisymmetric and has a dish-shaped liner while LEFP has a rectangular-shaped liner with curved cross section. Upon detonating LEFP forms laterally wide projectile like blade, leaving a long penetration hole on the target. On the other hand, a long-rod tungsten heavy alloy(WHA) penetrator is one of the major threats against most of the ground armored vehicles. In this paper, the feasibility of using an LEFP in protecting against a long-rod WHA penetrator by colliding LEFP into the threat was investigated through a set of numerical simulations. In this study, a scale-down WHA penetrator with length to diameter ratio(L/D) of 10.7 and 7.0 mm diameter was used to represent a long-rod WHA penetrator. LS-DYNA and Multi-Material ALE technique were employed for the simulation. For estimation of the protection effect by LEFP, residual penetration depths into RHA by the threat were compared according to various impact locations against the threat.

The potential pollution problems resulting from tanker collision necessitate the requirement for an effective structural design and the development of relevant safety regulation. During a few decades, the great effort has been made by International Maritime Organization and the Administration, etc, to reduce oil spillage from collision accidents. However there is still a need for investigation in the light of structural evaluation method for the experiments and rational analysis, and design development for an operational purpose of ships. This study is aimed at investigating a complicated structural response of bow structures of oil carriers for assessing the energy dissipation and crushing mechanics of striking vessel through a methodology of the numerical analysts for the various models and its design changes. Through this study an optimal bow construction absorbing great portion of kinetic energy in the least penetration depth prior to reach to the cargo area and an effective location of collision bulkhead are investigated. In order to obtain a rational results in this study, three stages of response analysis procedures are performed as follows; 1). 16 simplified ship models are used to investigate the structural response against bow collision with variation of primary and secondary members. Mass and speed are also varied in two conditions. 2). 21 models conisted of 5 size of full scaled oil carriers are used to perform the collision simulation with the various sizes and deadweight delivered in a recent which are complied with SOLAS and MARPOL. 3). 36 models of 100k oil carrier are used to investigate the structural response and its influence to the collision bulkhead against bow collision in variation with location of collision bulkhead, primary mombers, framing system and colliding conditions, etc.

When pipe components made of carbon steel in nuclear, fossil, and industry are exposed to flowing fluid, wall thinning caused by FAC(flow accelerated corrosion) can be generated and eventually ruptured at the portion of pressure boundary. A study to identify the locations generating local wall thinning and to disclose turbulence coefficient related to the local wall thinning was performed. Experiment and numerical analyses for tee of down scaled piping components were performed and the results were compared. In particular, flow visualization experiment which was used alkali metallic salt was performed to find actual location of local wall thinning inside tee components. To disclose the relationship between turbulence coefficients and local wall thinning, numerical analyses were performed for tee components. The turbulence coefficients based on the numerical analyses were compared with the local wall thinning based on the measured data. From the comparison of the results, the vertical flow velocity component(Vr) flowing to the wall after separating in the wall due to the geometrical configuration and colliding with the wall directly at an angle of some degree was analogous to the configuration of local wall thinning.
This study proposes a system reliability analysis of rack storage facilities subjected to forklift colliding events. The proposed system reliability analysis consists of two steps: the first step is to identify dominant failure modes that most contribute to the failure of the whole rack facilities, and the second step is to evaluate the system failure probability. In the first step, dominant failure modes are identified by using a simulation-based selective searching technique where the contribution of a failure mode to the system failure is roughly estimated based on the distance from the origin in the space of the random variables. In the second step, the multi-scale system reliability method is used to compute the system reliability where the first-order reliability method (FORM) is initially used to evaluate the component failure probability (failure probability of one member), and then the probabilities of the identified failure modes and their statistical dependence are evaluated, which is called as the lower-scale reliability analysis. Since the system failure probability is comprised of the probabilities of the failure modes, a higher-scale reliability analysis is performed again based on the results of the lower-scale analyses, and the system failure probability is finally evaluated. The illustrative example demonstrates the results of the system reliability analysis of the rack storage facilities subjected to forklift impact loadings. The numerical efficiency and accuracy of the approach are compared with the Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that the proposed two-step approach is able to provide accurate reliability assessment as well as significant saving of computational time. The results of the identified failure modes additionally let us know the most-critical members and their failure sequence under the complicated configuration of the member connections.
