  • This paper estimates the relative efficiency of 29 university libraries in Seoul by data envelopment analysis. We employed library space, staff and book collection as inputs, and book circulation and reader visits as outputs. The result shows that average efficiency score is 0.5248 and only 3 libraries are efficient. Inefficiency is estimated to be 47.52%. Reorganization may be necessary in order to achieve greater efficiency.

  • Currently, collections with public libraries are evaluated only on the basis of simple data, such as the use volume of collections with individual libraries, and interlibrary lending (ILL) results. To promote the ILL of regional libraries and raise the use of collections, however, the evaluation of collections should be expanded from individual libraries to regional libraries. This study aims to propose user-oriented methods for evaluating the library collections within a regional library system by using four kinds of data: collection, acquisition, circulation, and ILL application data. The results of this study show that the proposed method can reveal the positions of each library within a regional library system, and also the characteristics of a library's collections and users' needs more precisely.

  • Background: Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a swine enteropathogenic coronavirus that has devastated the swine industry in South Korea over the last 30 years. The lack of an effective method to control the endemics has led to a surge in PEDV recurrences in affected farms throughout the country. Objectives: In the first step toward establishing systematic monitoring of and active control measures over the swine populations, we constructed an assessment model that evaluates the status of (1) biosecurity, (2) herd immunity, and (3) virus circulation in each of the PEDV-infected farms. Methods: A total of 13 farrow-to-finish pig farms with a history of acute PEDV infection on Jeju Island were chosen for this study. The potential risk of the recurrence in these farms was estimated through on-site data collection and laboratory examination. Results: Overall, the data indicated that a considerable number of the PEDV-infected farms had lax biosecurity, achieved incomplete protective immunity in the sows despite multi-dose vaccination, and served as incubators of the circulating virus; thus, they face an increased risk of recurrent outbreaks. Intriguingly, our results suggest that after an outbreak, a farm requires proactive tasks, including reinforcing biosecurity, conducting serological and virus monitoring to check the sows' immunity and to identify the animals exposed to PEDV, and improving the vaccination scheme and disinfection practices if needed. Conclusions: The present study highlights the significance of coordinated PEDV management in infected farms to reduce the risk of recurrence and further contribute towards the national eradication of PEDV.

  • There has been research to understand users' information behaviors using book circulation data of public libraries. In this study, we examined the subject areas of books simultaneously borrowed by users of public libraries and aimed to identify the relationships among the subject areas. To accomplish this, we utilized the Korean Decimal Classification codes of 984,790 loaned books in 2019 to transform the lists of concurrently borrowed books, totaling 22,443,699 records, by the same users on the same day, into vectors using the ITEM2VEC technique. Next, we extracted ten highly related classification codes for each classification code, utilizing a total of 522 classification codes to create a network. We identified 15 communities within this network and examined the characteristics of each community. Among the 15 communities, those consisting of two or more main classes allowed us to identify meaningful thematic associations. This study, grounded in users' book usage behaviors, has suggested the topics of books that could be borrowed together. The findings offer valuable insights for library collection development and placement, recommending related subject materials, and revising classification systems.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the materials deposit policies and service policies of overseas collaborative repositories and provide practical data that can be referred to the management of the collaborative repository in Korea. For this purpose, this study tried to analyzed websites of 7 collaborative repositories and related data. Materials deposit policies were focused on duplicate materials, criteria of materials to be accepted, ownership and withdrawal and service policies were focused on on-site services and off-site services including circulation and document delivery service(electronic copy and photocopy). The results of this study can be used as practical data for the establishment of guidelines for collaborative repository in Korea.

  • This study analyzed the Beopmaru, Supreme Court Library of Korea, circulation data to identify user lending patterns and proposed a plan to reflect the analysis results in future user services. In 2022, Beopmaru's collection of books was 212,608, with law books accounting for 73%. However, general books accounted for 83% of actual circulation. Looking at the usage coefficient by topic, the literature field was the most actively used at 5.85, and the law field was the least used at 0.23. In the case of interlibrary loan, both KERIS member institutions and the Korean Bar Association had the highest loan ratios in the legal field, civil law field, and judicial litigation procedure field, in that order. However, member institutions affiliated with KERIS, a legal academic community, were lending law books on a wider range of subject areas than the Korean Bar Association, a practical organization. To improve access to legal information, the Beopmaru public service was implemented, but in reality, the use of reading space was high, and the proportion of general books loaned was much higher. In order to improve this, it seems necessary to strengthen the promotion of Beopmaru loan services, provide personalized services, improve book lending regulations, strengthen online services, and establish a cooperative network.

  • Where people within a certain cultural sphere have formed their own peculiar cultural beliefs including health belief, health value and health practice, care-givers have a good understanding of health management as those practices exist in the client's sociocultural background. The purpose of this study was to describe various caring behaviors in traditional childbearing management and ultimately to provide basic data for nursing practice and sustantive maternity nursing theory. To investigated taring behaviors, the ethnographic approaches were used. The fieldwork for this study has been conducted from December, 1991 to September, 1992. The data collection method was used in-depth interview. The key informants were 19 womans aged from 60 to 84, and general Informant was a native aged 50. Results of the study were as follows. The components of caring behavior inculded heeding, preventing from impurities, encouraging the power, praying, warming up one's body, enduring, helping, healing, resting, making preparations, utilizing mugwort, creating good blood circulation, tabooing, This components of taring behavior were 6 categories, making every effort, encouraing, contriving an easy labor, healing, making preparations, enduring, The prominent caring beehavier during childbearing process was making every effort. In conclusion, for more effective childbearing management of care-givers must eliminate from their own minds 'primitive' or 'supertitious' attitudes toward traditional childbearing management. Also it is desirable that they establish Korean style nursing intervention along with modern scientific practices in conjunction with the traditional childbearing management.

  • As cyber attacks and crimes increase exponentially and hacking attacks become more intelligent and advanced, hacking attack methods and routes are evolving unpredictably and in real time. In order to reinforce the enemy's responsiveness, this study aims to propose a method for developing an artificial intelligence-based security control platform by building a next-generation security system using artificial intelligence to respond by self-learning, monitoring abnormal signs and blocking attacks. The artificial intelligence-based security control platform should be developed as the basis for data collection, data analysis, next-generation security system operation, and security system management. Big data base and control system, data collection step through external threat information, data analysis step of pre-processing and formalizing the collected data to perform positive/false detection and abnormal behavior analysis through deep learning-based algorithm, and analyzed data Through the operation of a security system of prevention, control, response, analysis, and organic circulation structure, the next generation security system to increase the scope and speed of handling new threats and to reinforce the identification of normal and abnormal behaviors, and management of the security threat response system, Harmful IP management, detection policy management, security business legal system management. Through this, we are trying to find a way to comprehensively analyze vast amounts of data and to respond preemptively in a short time.
