  • Cold rolled and high strength steel were used for vehicle bodys to satisfy environmental regulation and improve fuel ratio. This paper presented a method far determining the fatigue life of cold rolled steel sheet EZNCEN and high strength steel sheet HS40R spot weldment used in vehicles. We can estimate the fatigue life of the spot weldments from the MSC/FATIGUE using the finite element method. The maximum load is found in the nugget part of both surfaces. The cold rolled steel and the high strength steel showed the maximum stress 746MPa and 730MPa in the effective nugget part when the weld current was 8KA and 7KA, respectively. Also the some weld current of the cold rolled steel and high strength steel is applied, the fatigue life of high strength steel is obtained about four times longer than the cold rolled steel.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of grain size on the damping capacity of the Fe-26Mn-4Co-2Al damping alloy. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ were formed by cold working, and these martensites were formed with a specific direction and surface relief. With an increase in grain size, the volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ increased by decrement the austenite phase stability. This volume fraction more rapidly increased in cold-rolled specimen than in the specimen that was not cold-rolled. The damping capacity also increased more with the augmentation an increased grain size and more rapidly increased in cold-rolled specimen than in the specimen that was not cold rolled. The effect of grain size on the damping capacity was larger in the cold-rolled specimen than the specimen that was not cold-rolled. Damping capacity linearly increased with an increase in volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}-martensite$. Thus, the damping capacity was affected by the ${\varepsilon}-martensite$.

  • Heat treatment conditions of 88.5% asymmetrically cold rolled oxygen free copper (OFC) sheets have been studied to obtain an equiaxed fine microstructure with a grain size of less than 10 ㎛. The commercial OFC sheets with the thickness of 10 mm were asymmetrically cold rolled by using equal speed asymmetric rolling (ESAR) processes and total rolling reduction. The thickness of the rolled sheets were 88.5% and 1.15 mm, respectively. An equiaxed fine microstructure of OFC sheets with a grain size of 6.0 ㎛ were obtained when the asymmetrically cold rolled OFC sheets were heat treated at 180℃ for 40 minutes. The tensile strength of the asymmetrically cold rolled specimen increased from 217.6 MPa to 396.1 MPa, while the elongation of the specimen asymmetrically cold rolled and heat treated increased from 29.0% to 66.9% along with an 8% increase of the tensile strength.

  • The influence of columnar dendirtes on the mechanical properties of Al-1% Cu alloys as unifirectionalloy solidified under the conditions of controlled crystal growth rate (R) and temperature gradient (G) was investigated. And the change of metallography and mechanical properties when unifirectionalloy solidified alloys and cast alloys were cold-rolled from 10% to 90% in reduction ratio was studied. The results are as follows: 1. The elongation and yield strength of unifirectionalloy solidified alloy are higher then those of cast alloy, but there is a little decrease in ultimate tensile strength. 2. The metallography and mechanical properties are changeable with the primary arm spacings when the unidirectionalloy solidified alloys were cold-rolled from 10% to 90% in reduction ratio. An alloy with larger primary arm spacings was easily changeable in metallography and mechanical properties when it was cold-rolled. 3. The tensile strength of transversely cold-rolled to 90% in reduction ratio was higher then that of longitudionalloy cold-rolled to 90% in reduction ratio. In the case, the fractorgraphs of fractured surface showed that the cast alloy and the unifirectionalloy solidified alloy was ductile-fractured, but the surface of transversely cold-rolled to 90% reduction of unidirection alloy solidified was slip plane qracture.

  • In this study, cold-rolling and appropriate annealing was adopted for the grain refining of Cu-26.65Zn-4. 05Al-0.31Ti(wt%) shape memory alloy. For the cold deformation of this alloy the ducti1e $\alpha$-phase must be contained. After heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ the $(\alpha+$\beta)$-dual phase with 40vol.% $\alpha$-phase was obtained which could be rolled at room temperature. This alloy was cold rolled into a final thickness of 1.0mm with total reduction degrees of 70% and 90%. The rolled sheets were betanized at $800^{\circ}C$ for various times, then quenched into ice water. The grain size of co]d rolled samples were $60~80\mu\textrm{m}$ which is much smaller comparing with the hot-rolled samples. And the 90% rolled sample showed smaller grain size than the case of the 70% rolled one. The small grain size had influence on the phase transformation temperatures and stabilization of the austenitic phases.

  • The cold rolling of metal sheets leads to the formation of an inhomogeneous microstructure and texture. The type and sharpness of texture through the thickness and the degree of inhomogeneity depend on the friction between rolls the rolled material and the geometry of the rolling gap. In order to follow the effect of friction, two kinds of stecimens were prepared by applying with and without lubrication during the cold rolling. Although the deformed microstructure of the specimens rolled without lubrication was much inhomogenous than that of the specimens rolled with lubrication, the effect of lubrication on the cold rolling texture was not found. the recrystallization behavior was strongly dependent on the deformation process. Thus, the retardation of the recrystallization was observed in the specimens rolled without lubrication.

  • The main purpose of the present study has been placed on investigating the mechanical properties and microstructures of C-Si-Mn-V steels for cold forming manufactured by controlled rolling and cooling technology. The steels were manufactured in electric arc furnace (EAF) and casted to $160{\times}160mm$ billet. The billets were reheated in walking beam furnace and rolled to coil, the stocks were rolled by Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology (CRCT), so rolled at low temperature by water spraying applied in rolling stage and acceleratly cooled before coiling. Rolled coils were cold drawed to the degree of 16%, 27% of area reduction respectively without heat treatment. Microstructual observation, tensile test, compression test and charpy impact tests were conducted. The mechanical properties of the steels were changed by area reduction of cold drawing and it is founded that there are optimum level of cold drawing to minimize compression stress for these steels. From the result of this study, it is conformed that $80kg_{f}/mm^{2},\;90kg_{f}/mm^{2}$ grade high strength microalloyed steel for cold forming are developed by accelerated cooling and optimum cold drawing.

  • A new model for heat transfer and thermal deformation analysis according to strip mm in coiling process has been proposed. Finite difference analyses for heat transfer of cold rolled coil have been carried out under various coiling tensions and strip crown using the equivalent thermal conductivity for the radial direction of cold rolled coil which is a function of strip thickness, surface characteristics and compressive pressure. The compressive pressure is calculated from a equation expressed as a function of hoop stress and coil tension considering strip mm obtained by experiment. Finite element method for thermal deformation of cold rolled coil has been performed to investigate the effects of the strip crown, the coil tension and temperature. From these analyses, it is found that the axial inhomogeneity of thermal deformation is increased as the strip crown, compressive pressure, and temperature drop in cold coiled strip increase.

  • The corroded surface of cold rolled steel sheet in the process of rinsing after alkali-cleaning was examined by means of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS). In addition, the surface-treated cold rolled steel with 0.05wt% $Na_5P_3O_{10}$ solution for the purpose of preventing the corrosion was examined by means of XPS and the results were compared with those for the non-treated cold rolled steel. It was found that the corroded surface consists of $Fe_2O_3$, FeO and $Fe(OH)_3$ and the thickness of the oxide layer is about $1500{\AA}$. On the other hand, in the case of surface-treated cold rolled steel, the phosphate layer of $60{\AA}$ thickness was found to act as a protective film over the relatively thin Fe oxide layer.
