  • A conceptual thermoelectric heat pump(cooling mode) of small capacity is designed. Its performance is investigated through parametric analysis. COP and cooling capacity decease as the ambient temperature increases with ${\mu}$, J, T$\sub$wi/, fixed. To design a system of fixed capacity comes to calculate ${\mu}$ and J when T$\sub$wi/, and T$\sub$a/ are given. As v is fixed by semi-conductor manufacturers, optimum combination of n and I should be searched for ν. Optimum current could be calculated using ${\mu}$-J curve and optimum value of ${\mu}$. COR$\sub$R/ increases as water flow rate increases and T$\sub$a/ decreases. The effect of heat transfer coefficient at hot(heat releasing) side is more significant than that at cold(heat absorbing) side.

  • This study was conducted to forecast inner water temperature strata change by extracting deep water from a dam. For the methodology, the scope wherein the balance between the volume of low-temperature water intake through the virtual water intake opening as installed within the stored water area and the volume of water intake from the surrounding area is not destroyed was calculated through the CFD simulation technique using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) interpretation method. This study suggested a supplementary method(diffuser) to avoid destroying the water temperature strata, and the effect was reviewed. In case of intake of the same volume, when the velocity of flow of water intake is reduced by increasing the pipe diameter, the destruction of water temperature strata can be minimized. When the area(height) where the intake of water is possible is low, a diffuser for interrupting the vertical direction inflow should be installed to secure favorable water intake conditions in case of water intake on the upper part. This study showed that there was no problem if the intake-enabled, low-temperature area was secured approximately 10m from the bottom when the scope that does not destroy the water temperature strata in case of water intake was forecast using the regression formula.

  • Fibromyalgia syndrome(FMS) is a chronic pain disorder of unknown etiology characterized by widespread musculoskeletal aches and pains, stiffness, and general fatigue, disturbed sleep and sleepiness. Frequently misdiagnosed, FMS is often confused with myofascial pain syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica, polymyositis, hypothyroidism, metastatic carcinoma, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, or systemic lupus erythematosus, any of which may occur concomitantly with FMS. The management of FMS often begins with a thorough examination and a diagnosis from a physician who is formally trained in tender-point/trigger-point recognition. An initial diagnosis provides reassurance to the patient and often reduces the anxiety and depression patterns associated with FMS. The most common goals in the management of FMS are (1) to break the pain cycle, (2) to restore sleep patterns, and (3) to increase functional activity levels. Because FMS is a multifactorial syndrome, it is likely that the best treatment will encompass multiple strategies. Medication with analgesics and antidepressants and also physiotherapy, are often prescribed and give some relief. The other most effective intervention for long-term management of FS to date is physical exercise. Physical therapists can instruct patients in the use of heat at home (moist hot packs, heating pads, whirlpools, warm showers or baths, and hot pads) to increase local blood flow and to decrease muscle spasm and tension. Also instruct patients in the proper use of cold modalities (ice packs, ice massage, and cool baths) to anesthetize localized areas of pain (tender points) and break the pain cycle. Massage and tender-point massage also may promote muscle relaxation. To date, the two most important interventions for the long-term management of FS are patient education and physical exercise. Lately, is handling FMS and Chronic Fatigue syndrome(CFS) together, becuase FMS and CFS are poorly understood disorders that share similar demographic and clinical characteristics. Because of the clinical similarities between both disorders it was suggested that they share a common pathophysiological mechanism, namely, central nervous system dysfunction.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the influence of the speed of grinding and coolants on mercury vaporization during amalgam removal. Forty amalgam filled stone dies were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity for 7 days prior to the beginning of the mercury vapor experiment and were divided into 4 different groups; In Group I; Used by high speed without coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group II; Used by high speed with coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group III; Used by low speed without coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group IV; Used by low speed with coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. The amalgam specimens were removed in a 30-second time period and mercury vapor was collected with membrane filter at 27mm from the site of removal and 45 degree above there. Samples in Group II, IV were removed with coolant spray at a flow rate of 30 ml/min with high-velocity evacuator. Mercury vapor collected membrane filter was analysed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer using cold vapor method. The results were as follows; 1. The mercury vapor levels were obtained all of the Groups. 2. The mercury vapor levels of the Group II, IV (with coolant & evacuator) were less than that of the Group I, III (without coolant & evacuator). 3. The highest mercury vapor level recorded during amalgam removal procedure was Group I (used by high speed without coolant & evacuator) and its record was $0.78{\pm}0.09\;mg/m^3$, which exceed the T.L.V. by 15 times. 4. The mercury vapor level of the Group IV (used by low speed with coolant & evacuator) was more than that of the Group II (used by high speed with coolant & evacuator), but its difference was not significant, statistically. • Interest has been increasing worldwide in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (F-T) as a method of producing synthetic liquid fuels from biomass. Hydroisomerization of $C_7-C_{15}$ paraffins applies to production of diesel fuel with high cetane number and improved cold flow properties, such as viscosity, pour point and freezing point. The commercial products such as fuel jet produced from F-T synthesis should have low freezing and pour points. In this study, our major aim is to develop a catalyst for hydroisomerization of synthesis-oil for bio-jet fuel. Effects of zeolites and platinum loading on hydroisomerization of dodecane were investigated as a model reaction in a batch reactor.

  • In this study, the effect of the shape of a pintle(obstacle) on thrust-modulation performance and drag in a pintle rocket was investigated by a cold flow test and by computational fluid dynamics. Pintle movement caused a monotonic increase in the chamber pressure. Thrust generated by the pressure distribution on the pintle body was linearly changed to the chamber pressure, and this thrust was greater than that generated by the nozzle-wall pressure distribution. Because the shock pattern in the nozzle changes with the shape of the pintle body and pressure ratio, the thrust generated by the nozzle-wall pressure is not directly affected by chamber pressure. The drag due to the pintle(obstacle) can be minimized for a fully linear pintle shape, regardless of chamber pressure.

  • Triplet(FOF or OFO) injectors are commonly applied to liquid rockets which use LOX and hydrocarbon propellants. The FOF type injector has been known to have an advantage for the although to show lower combustion performance as compared by the OFO type. However, a large disparity between oxidizer and fuel orifice diameters of the FOF type injector may reduce both the combustion efficiency and stability so that as FOOF split triplet injector which splits a single oxidizer orifice into double orifices was designed. In the present study, spray characteristics of the FOOF injector were investigated and compared with those of the FOF injector undo. cold flow conditions. Mass distributions of oxidizer and fuel for both injectors were measured by using a PLLIF (Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence)technique, and each drop size was also measured by using an instantaneous photographic method. From the experimental results, we found out that FOOF shows more stable mixing efficiencies than the FOF. As for the drop size of both oxidizer and fuel, there was not a large difference between two injector types.

  • Experimental studies of particle (TiO$\_$2/) deposition from the laminar hot gas particle flow (about 1565K) onto the cold wall surface (about 1215K-1530K) were carried out by the 'real time' laser light reflectivity method (LLRM) and the photographs of scanning electron microscope(SEM). The LLRM was used for the measurement of thermophoretic deposition rates of small particles (d$\_$p/<3.mu.m), and the photographs of SEM were used for determining what factors control the collection of particles having diameters ranging from 0.2 to 30 microns. Two phenomena are primarily responsible for transport of the particles across the laminar boundary layers and deposition: (1) particle thermophoresis (i.e. particles migration down a temperature gradient), and (2) particle inertial impaction, the former effect being especially larger factor of the particle deposition in its size over the range of 0.2 to 1 microns. And also, this study indicates that thermophoresis can be important for particles as large as 15 microns. Beyond d$\_$p/=16.mu.m, this effect diminishes and the inertial impaction is taken into account as a dominant mechanism of particle deposition. The results of present experiments found to be in close agreement with existing theories.

  • The interaction of natural convection and radiation heat transfer in a two dimensional square enclosure containing absorbing, emitting and linear anisotropically scattering gray medium is numerically analyzed. P-1 and P-3 approximation is introduced to calculate radiation heat transfer. The effects of scattering albedo, wall emissivity, scattering anisotropy, and optical thickness on the characteristics of the flow and temperature field and heat transfer are investigated. Temperature and velocity profiles depend a great deal on the scattering albedo, and the importance of this effect increases with decrease in albelo. Planck number is another important parameter in radiation heat transfer. The increase in scattering albedo increases convection heat transfer and decreases radiation heat transfer at hot wall. However, the increase in scattering albedo decreases both convection and radiation heat transfer at cold wall. The increase in optical thickness decreases radiation heat transfer. The scattering anisotropy has important effects on the radiation heat transfer only. The highly forward scattering leads to an increase of radiation heat transfer whereas the highly backward scattering leads to an decrease of radiation heat transfer. The effect of scattering anisotropy decreases when reducing the wall emissivity.
