  • The spectrum efficiency of mobile communication networks can be improved dramatically adopting multiple antennas technologies. In order to guarantee the licensed rights of primary user (PU), the cognitive radio system should perform in a relatively low interference manner when it gets access to the spectrum of licensed networks. In this paper, we explore a uniformly distributed circular antenna array to implement beamforming algorithm that is accomplished by optimization method at the base station of cognitive radio networks, and therefore we can suppress the interference to PU by steering quite low transmission power toward PU and constructing a narrow beam toward cognitive user (CU). By reducing the constraint number of the optimization problem, we also propose a null steering algorithm that steers rather low radiation power toward PU, while the other areas in the same cell are covered by radiation power except the local area around PU. It is pursued to reduce the computation load and enlarge the capacity of cognitive radio networks extremely. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms process superior performance.

  • In this paper, we study an optimization which determines the optimal sensing time and the number of cooperative sensing cognitive users for cooperative spectrum sensing scheme in cognitive radio networks. In cooperative spectrum sensing, cognitive users originally in inactive status are activated and take part in spectrum sensing along with transmitting cognitive users resulting in a reduced sensing time. Tradeoff between transmission rate gain and energy consumption due to cooperative sensing is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem which is solved for the optimal values.

  • Recently, FCC(Federal Communications Commission) has considered for that unlicensed device leases licensed devices' channel to overcome shortage of communication channels. Therefore, IEEE 802.22 WRAN(Wireless Regional Area Networks) working group progresses CR (Cognitive Radio) technique that is able to sense and adopt void channels that are not being occupied by the licensed devices. Channel selection is of the utmost importance because it can affect the whole system performance in CR network. Thus, we propose a policy-based dynamic channel selection architecture for cognitive radio network to achieve an efficient communication. We propose three kinds of method for channel selection; the first one is weighted channel selection, the second one is sequential channel selection, and the last one is combined channel selection. We can obtain the optimum channel list and allocates channels dynamically using the proposed protocol.

  • Currently, most of the frequency spectrum resources are allocated and due to the lack of frequency, low frequency band, optimal for wireless communication environment is not used. Therefore, Cognitive Radio (CR) is a critical issue to solve the spectrum scarcity and to improve frequency spectrum utilization in wireless communication. In this paper, we implement data transmission and receive in a real CR system using the USRP(Universal Software Radio Peripheral) board and GNU Radio package of an open source development kit. Concretely, we detect the Primary User by spectrum sensing, and then we send Primary User information to the database. After receiving the information, because the database already sent optimal transmit power, bandwidth and channel information to CR equipment, CR can communicate without any interference to Primary User.

  • In the cooperative communication, The relay that transmit signal to destination can achieve diversity gain. But transmitter and relay must have own frequency to transmit signal to destination. If Relay is secondary user and does not have own frequency, relay can't transmit signal to destination. So, To analysis performance of cognitive radio We need to consider detection probability of secondary user. In the paper we propose cooperative communication system considering detection probability. And to compare proposed system and conventional, we also simulate incremental cooperative communication. Through the simulation result, we can know that BER performance of proposed scheme is better than incremental relaying in the cognitive radio.

  • Using decode-and-forward relaying in the cognitive radio networks, the spectrum efficiency can improve furthermore. The optimization algorithm of the spectrum sensing estimation time is presented for the cognitive relay networks in this paper. The longer sensing time will bring two aspects of the consequences. On the one hand, the channel parameters are estimated more accurate so as to reduce the interferences to the authorized users and to improve the throughput of the cognitive users. On the other hand, it shortens the transmission time so as to decease the system throughput. In this time, it exists an optimal sensing time to maximize the throughput. The channel state information of the sub-bands is considered as the exponentially distributed, so a stochastic programming method is proposed to optimize the sensing time for the cognitive relay networks. The computer simulation results using the Matlab software show that the algorithm is effective, which has a certain engineering application value.

  • In order to utilize the licensed channel of cognitive radio (CR) when the primary user (PU) is detected busy, a benefit-exchange access mode based on cooperative communication is proposed to allow secondary user (SU) to access the busy channel through giving assistance to PU's communication in exchange for some transmission bandwidth. A holistic joint optimization problem is formulated to maximize the total throughput of CR system through jointly optimizing the parameters of cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS), including the local sensing time, the pre-configured sensing decision threshold, the forward power of cooperative communication, and the bandwidth and transmission power allocated to SUs in benefit-exchange access mode and traditional access mode, respectively. To solve this complex problem, a combination of bi-level optimization, interior-point optimization and exhaustive optimization is proposed. Simulation results show that, compared with the tradition throughput maximizing model (TTMM), the proposed holistic joint optimization model (HJOM) can make use of the channel effectively even if PU is busy, and the total throughput of CR obtains a considerable improvement by HJOM.

  • It is important that using of efficient radio resource because of deficiency spectrum problem, so that related to this problem many researches are have proceeded. To solve this problem, Cognitive Radio(CR) was suggested. The channels are allocated to the secondary users when the primary users don't use the channels, and unfairness of secondary users can be serious problem and channel quality of multichannel can be different due to the different traffic pattern of primary users. In this paper, we propose MAC prtocol both of the user's fairness and channel quality in CR networks. Simulation results show the comparison with CR MAC protocols.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of the cooperative cognitive radio relay system which is adapted the recently highly focused cognitive radio system. The performance comparison is made between the system with and that without the opportunistic transmission relay. Especially the selection combining is considered at the destination for simple implementation. In this case, the effect of the channel state information (CSI) delay, which is caused essentially by the process during the CSI delivery, to the system performance is considered. It is noticed that the performance of the system with the opportunistic relay degrades up to 0.6 dB at a given condition compared to the system without the opportunistic relay. And it is shown that the system performance is more sensitive to the CSI delay compared to the frequency acquisition probability of the cognitive radio relay.

  • In this paper, we discuss the transmit power of user in Cognitive Radio environment. Transmit power of user should be operated in order not to give a bad effect to PU(Primary user) and this power can be considered as SINR(Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio) measured in PU. Exact spectrum sensing is required to see which is the vacant frequency. And this spectrum sensing should be operated repeatedly within certain time because the vacant frequency is time-varying. In this paper, we reduce the existing defect by using orthogonal parameter and show the sensing operation is possible if SINR of PU can be guaranteed.
