According to the cognitive conflict process model, student anxiety factor is known to have both positive and negative effects on student response behaviors in a conflict situation for conceptual change learning. However, there is little research that reveals what type of anxiety, either constructive or destructive, is related when conducting step-by-step experiments to resolve cognitive conflicts. This study attempted to learn the characteristic of explanatory hypothesis according to anxiety type after conducting five step-by-step experiments related to action and reaction concept. Results found that students who belonged to the types of 'conviction in logical misconception', 'insisting on additional variables', and 'reasonable modification' suggested explanatory hypothesis close to physical nature. On the other hand, those who showed the other five types of anxiety ('compatible predictions', 'dependence on others', 'fusion of past experience', 'lack of confidence', and 'conflict with past experience') suggested temporary supported hypothesis or simple explanatory hypothesis according to student intuition and simple observation. These results indicate that students in the above-mentioned five categories need more external interactions with instructors based on the type of anxiety related to student behavior. In addition, the results present student characteristics which instructors should be more attentive to when using step-by-step experiments to resolve cognitive conflicts.

The purpose of this study was to examine the students' responses when students were confronted with anomalous situations in physics. 16 students were selected from one middle school in Busan by examining the pre-test results. To measure students' responses and cognitive conflict levels, written Cognitive Conflict Levels Test(CCLT) developed in a previous study was used together with interviews. Students' responses were tape-recorded. Two kinds of anomalous situations were presented. One was a quantitative demonstration with scale, the other was a qualitative demonstration without scale. In the quantitative group, all students observed anomalous situations correctly. However, in the qualitative group, many of their observations of anomalous situations were incorrect. The students who observed anomalous situations based on preconceptions tended not to abandon their preconceptions, and suggested confirmation experiments which were supposedly to support their preconceptions. The students who recognized results very differently from their preconceptions when confronted with anomalous situations abandoned their preconceptions and suggested alternative experiments. The students who changed their beliefs about preconceptions showed higher cognitive conflict levels than who didn't abandon their preconceptions.
The purpose of this study was to classify types of preconception about the motion of the moon held by middle school students and find out how the lesson applying cognitive conflict instructional model changes their conceptual view of the motion of the moon. A quantitative study was first conducted with 48 ninth graders and then followed by a qualitative study. In the qualitative study, male and female students were organized into groups of five and ten respectively. Students were instructed to observe the motion of the moon about for a month and at the same time were taught via the cognitive conflict instructional model for three class periods. Data were collected from interviews and a questionnaire evaluating the degree of concept development that each student showed. A majority of students were found to hold misconceptions formed from elementary school programs on the motion of the moon. Further, students showed lack of scientific ability to interpret the phenomena of the moon. This study showed that the cognitive conflict instructional model was effective for students to make progress regarding their conceptual views of the motion of the moon. However, it was observed that misconceptions by students may possibly occur when two dimensional figures or miniatures were used.
This study examined how the rejection sensitivity model might be applied to the link between rejection sensitivity and dating relationship satisfaction by means of investigating the mediating effect of cognitive emotion regulation strategy and conflict resolution strategy. A total of 668 college students in Seoul (232 males, 436 females, mean age of 21.59 years [SD=2.08]) participated in this study. The results illustrated that the adaptive emotion regulation strategy, among cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and the integration and compromise strategies, among conflict resolution strategies, had the double mediation effect on the association between rejection sensitivity and dating relationship satisfaction. In other words, a direct negative correlation between rejection sensitivity and dating relationship satisfation resulted in high rejection sensitivity, which was expected to generate low satisfaction in dating relationships. However, it was confirmed that the use of these two strategies-the cognitive emotion regulation and the conflict resolution strategy-could bring positive effects in terms of the dating relationship satisfaction; the former helped couples to see situations more broadly and increase positive perceptions, while the latter solve their problems each other. Based on these findings, we discuss their implications for counseling practice and therapeutic interventions

In this study, we investigated the role of a discrepant event from both cognitive and motivational perspectives in learning the concept of combustion. A preconception test, a test of response to a discrepant event, and a situational interest questionnaire were administered to 433 eighth graders. After learning the concept of combustion, the tests of attention, effort, and conceptual understanding were administered as post-tests. The reponses of 208 students who had been found to possess the target misconception were analyzed. The percentages of rejection and exclusion responses were relatively high compared to the previous studies about density concept, whereas a proportion of belief change was low. The results of the path analysis indicated that situational interest after presenting an alternative hypothesis had a direct effect and an indirect effect via attention and effort on conceptual understanding. Situational interest induced by a discrepant event directly influenced cognitive conflict after presenting an alternative hypothesis.

The purpose of the study is to understand the change process of middle school students' physics conceptions by the presented types of conflict situations. 274 middle school students were selected from one school in Pusan, however 257 students were participated in all the procedure of the study. After we classified students' physics conceptions into scientific and unscientific conceptions, presented three types of conflict situations. In this study three different cognitive conflict strategies were adopted; the first one is logical arguments(LCS: logical conflict situation), the second is actual demonstration(DCS: demonstrational conflict situation), and the third is two strategies together(DLCS). In this study, first, we investigated the change process of students' physics conceptions by three types of conflict situations. Second, we compared the effect of three conflict situations presentation, which includes positive effect by conceptual change from misconception to scientific conception and negative effect by conceptual change from scientific conception to misconception. Third, we studied characteristics of conceptual change by characteristics of conflict situations. In result, DLCS group and DCS group were more positive effect than LCS group in mechanics, DLCS group and LCS group were more positive effect than DCS group in electricity. It seems that mechanics are closely related to physical experiences, while electricity are more abstract.

A research on differential effects of task and relationship conflicts claims positive effects of task conflict on innovation performance and negative effects of relation conflict on innovation performance. Yet, given the intimate interconnectedness of task conflict and relation conflict, task conflict, which has a beneficial impact on innovation performance, may have adverse effects on innovation performance as it goes through the process of being transferred to relation conflict. That necessitates the need for a way of management that can undermine the process of transference of task conflict to relation conflict, and team identification, which is a social identity of an individual and also a sort of positive, affective or cognitive bonds of such individual toward the team, can be an effective way of managing conflict. The research, which was conducted based on materials collected from 213 employees, confirms that such theory holds true for the real-life business environment. Based on the findings, this study suggested implications and directions for future research.
Media industry is attempting various types of strategic innovation in the content and organization as they enter transition period. However, previous research has casually treated the organizational culture from the management and realized that cognitive/cultural differences between the specific departments yield conflicts. This means the researchers explored less on the decision-making process with the conflict between sub-groups and constituent in the organization. Our study reviewed the most positive method to achieve the innovation outcome through the conflict management within the organization based on the behavioral theory of the firm and applied computer simulation model for analysis to construct the quantitative scenario and infer the result. Conflict always found while media organization experiences innovation within the groups. However, in the long term, securing the independence through the certain state of 'anarchy' which possibly lead consensus implies significance rather to comprise collegiate system for unilateral control. In specific, this study explored the issues in 'conflict management' that has been evaded in media organization research through NK simulation model.

In this study, twenty-eight 7th graders were interviewed to explore their emotional responses and perceived teaching-learning strategies for effective conceptual change by the types of cognitive responses to a discrepant event. The results revealed that cognitive conflict was more induced by a discrepant event when its reliability and validity were emphasized. The students' cognitive responses to a discrepant event, the existence of alternative hypotheses, and their clearness influenced the patterns of emotional responses such as interest and anxiety. Many students perceived that emotional responses would have positive influences on concept learning processes. In the cases of the students exhibiting cognitive responses such as belief decrease, peripheral belief change, and belief change, opinions about teaching-learning strategies for effective conceptual change were different depending on whether they had alternative hypotheses or not. Educational implications are discussed.
