A reduced order model for fission gas diffusion in columnar grains

  • In fast reactors, restructuring of the fuel micro-structure driven by high temperature and high temperature gradient can cause the formation of columnar grains. The non-spheroidal shape and the non-uniform temperature field in such columnar grains implies that standard models for fission gas diffusion can not be applied. To tackle this issue, we present a reduced order model for the fission gas diffusion process which is applicable in different geometries and with non-uniform temperature fields, maintaining a computational requirement in line with its application in fuel performance codes. This innovative application of reduced order models as meso-scale tools within fuel performance codes represents a first-of-a-kind achievement that can be extended beyond fission gas behaviour.

  • In designing cut and cover tunnels, load combination applied Korea seismic design code of urban transit and its sections applied Korea concrete code 2003. However, by revision of Korea concrete code in 2007, engineers have been experiencing difficulties in their work. In this study, application of Korea concrete code 2007 for designing is reviewed by comparing load combination of related codes and member force.

  • This paper discusses an expert system to generate part codes and construct part families, ESPCC, for the group technology application. The ESPCC, that is developed by using VP-Expert rule-based expert system development tool, embodies the specific knowledge of human experts to determine part codes consistent with the OPITZ classification and coding system. The ESPCC is implemented on an IBM compatible personal computers running MS-DOS.

  • For structural engineers, design of pile cap causes difficulties since design of this member is not specifically addressed by codes. In general, pile cap is considered as deep beam and designed for shear and moment at specified critical section. This is called as traditional section method. However, many international design codes suggest the application of strut tie method for better design of this member. In this paper, a brief application of strut tie method to the design check of pile cap structure designed by section method is presented. Unlike well known pile cap with single column, the example pile cap has two columns. In order to find out proper load path under various load condition, three dimensional finite element method was carried out. The result indicates that provided reinforcement by traditional section method has sufficient capacity to meet the design requirements.

  • Error control performance of punctured convolutional codes is considered in digital mobile radio communication wherein GMSK and DQPSK are assumed to be employed as a modulation scheme. Bit error rates of the two modulation systems with the punctured convolutional code are computed, and compared each other, some good punctured convolutional codes are searched and listed fork practical application to the digital mobile radio communication.

  • This research addresses to establish a systematic approach to design a standard Hangul code system for educational purposes in development of CAI courseware using Korean, English, and Chinese characters, which requires data exchanges and database construction. In this paper, types of Korean alphabetic code systems already in use, their representational environments and consonant/vowel order have been studied and analysed. This paper presents the requirements that the hangul code system for educational purpose needs to obtain. First, it should be able to represent all contemporary as well as ancient Korean alphabets. Second, character elements should be separable. Third, consonant/vowel order should be determined to easily retrieve and exchange data. Lastly, the code should maintain compatibility with other national codes and provide uniqueness of user-defined character codes.

Deep Hashing for Semi-supervised Content Based Image Retrieval

  • Content-based image retrieval is an approach used to query images based on their semantics. Semantic based retrieval has its application in all fields including medicine, space, computing etc. Semantically generated binary hash codes can improve content-based image retrieval. These semantic labels / binary hash codes can be generated from unlabeled data using convolutional autoencoders. Proposed approach uses semi-supervised deep hashing with semantic learning and binary code generation by minimizing the objective function. Convolutional autoencoders are basis to extract semantic features due to its property of image generation from low level semantic representations. These representations of images are more effective than simple feature extraction and can preserve better semantic information. Proposed activation and loss functions helped to minimize classification error and produce better hash codes. Most widely used datasets have been used for verification of this approach that outperforms the existing methods.

  • This paper introduces the development of safety assessment technology in Korea, focusing on the activities of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in the areas of system thermal hydraulics, severe accidents and probabilistic safety assessment. In the 1970s and 1980s, safety analysis codes and methodologies were introduced from the United States, France, Canada and other developed countries along with technology related to the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. The main focus was on understanding and utilizing computer codes that were sourced from abroad up to the early 1990s, when efforts to develop domestic safety analysis codes and methodologies became active. Remarkable achievements have been made over the last 15 years in the development and application of safety analysis technologies. In addition, significant experimental work has been performed to verify the safety characteristics of reactors and fuels as well as to support the development and validation of analysis methods.

QR코드를 적용한 진료 처방전 설계 (Medical prescription design using QR Codes)

  • 최근 정보기술 발달로 산업 전 분야에서 IT 융합이 보편적으로 이루어지고 있다. 특히 의료IT 융합분야는 사용자 서비스 측면에서 많은 변화를 보이고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자 서비스 측면에 하나의 사례로 기존 종이처방전을 모바일을 이용한 QR코드로 전송할 수 있는 환경을 제안하고자 한다. QR코드는 종이처방전의 출력에서 전달, 보관하는 과정상의 부담을 최소화할 수 있다. 또한 정보 표현을 다양하고 폭넓게 활용할 수 있으며, 정보 복원과 암호화가 가능하므로 개인 정보 노출 및 변조의 위험을 최소화할 수 있는 미디어로 간주된다. 따라서 QR코드의 기능을 의료분야에 유합함으로서 사용자의 편의는 물론 정보의 기밀성, 저장능력을 발휘할 것으로 기대한다.

네트워크 고장감내 소프트웨어 스트리밍 기술의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Network Fault-Tolerant Application Software Streaming)

  • 소프트웨어 스트리밍은 사용자가 자신의 컴퓨터에 설치되어 있지 않고 서버에 있는 응용 프로그램을 스트리밍 받아 바로 사용할 수 있게 하는 가상화 기술이다. 이 기술을 이용하면 사용자는 응용 프로그램이 마치 로컬 컴퓨터에 설치된 것처럼 바로 사용할 수 있으며, 별도의 다운로드나 설치 과정을 요구하지 않는다. 소프트웨어 스트리밍은 네트워크를 기반으로 하기 때문에 제공되는 서비스는 네트워크 성능 및 상태에 영향을 받는다. 특히, 네트워크 고장이 발생하면 스트리밍이 더 이상 불가능하기 때문에 스트리밍 중인 응용 프로그램이 고장나거나 심한 경우 시스템 전체가 고장나게 된다. 파레토의 원리(Pareto Principle)에 의하면, 대부분의 사용자들은 자주 사용하는 몇 가지 기능을 주로 사용한다. 이러한 원리에 따라 네트워크 고장 감지와 지능적인 스트리밍 기술을 제공한다면, 네트워크 고장이 발생하더라도 사용자들은 이미 스트리밍된 응용 프로그램의 기능을 중단 없이 사용할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 네트워크 고장이 발생하더라도 로컬 컴퓨터에 스트리밍된 기능을 사용자들이 지속적으로 사용 할 수 있게 하는 네트워크 고장감내 소프트웨어 스트리밍(에버그린)의 개념 및 기술을 제안한다. 또한, 에버그린 기술의 구현에 대한 자세한 내용에 대해 논의한다.
