This paper described a numerical investigation performed to understand better the effects of flow parameters in an entrained flow combustor on the flow characteristics. The computational model was based on the gas phase Eulerian equations of mass, momentum and energy. The code was formulated with RNG $k-\varepsilon$ model for turbulent flow. The calculation parameters were the ratio of primary and secondary jet velocity and the height difference between primary and secondary jet As the secondary jet velocity increased, the upper recirculation 3one of the primary jet was strengthened. It was found that as the primary jet velocity increased, there was a critical jet Velocity at which the size of upper and lower recirculation zone was reversed.

Two high resolution compressive schemes, CICSAM(Ubbink, 1997) and HRIC(Muzaferija & Peric, 1999), in interface capturing method are reviewed briefly with respect to the extended forms suitable for unstructured meshes. And then those are applied to three typical test cases of translation test, shearing flow test and collapsing water problem with an obstacle. It is accomplished by implementing the high resolution schemes in the in-house CFD code(PowerCFD) for computing 3-D flow with an unstructured cell-centered method, which is based on the finite-volume technique and fully conservative. The calculated results show that CICSAM is better than HRIC with respect to accuracy and robustness, although either scheme can be used as a good choice for free surface or two-phase flow simulation.
Analytical formulae are presented to approximate the evolution of the semi major axis, the maneuver time, and the final mass fraction for low thrust orbital transfers with circular initial orbit, circular target orbit, and constant thrust directed either always along or always opposite the velocity vector. For comparison, the associated results for high-thrust transfers, i.e. the two-impulse Hohmann transfer, are summarized. All results are implemented in a computer code designed to analyze planar planetary and interplanetary space missions. This implementation yields fast and reasonably accurate approximations to trajectory performance boundaries. Consequently, the approach can provide trajectory analysis for each spacecraft configuration during the conceptual space mission design phase. As an example, a mission from Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) to Jupiter's moon Europa is analyzed.

Micro turbine that is a component of micro thermal system refers to turbines on the scale of centimeters which can transmit power on the order of tens of Watts. Such devices can be used as propulsion or power generation devices for various potable and micro devices. An interdisciplinary team at Seoul National University has designed, fabricated and tested such a device, and this paper describes each phase. A commercial code has been used for design, and MEMS processes have been used for manufacturing. Finally, some preliminary test results are presented.

This paper presents and analyses the closed-form expression of the average bit error rate (BER) for an asynchronous direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system with coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme using a maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity over a Rician fading channel. In addition to the average BER, outage probability, and user capacity of system are estimated as performance measures. The results are general enough so that it includes Rayleigh fading and nonfading channel with zero and infinite Rician factor, respectively, as special cases. The effects of various channel models, processing gains, and diversity orders on the system performances are also considered for the typical multipath delay profiles characterized by Rician fading channel.
This paper presents the application of a turbo coding technique combined with a bandwidth efficient method known as trellis-coded modulation. A transformation applied to the incoming I-channel and Q-channel symbols allows the use of an off-the-shelf binary/quadrature phase shift keying (B/QPSK) turbo decoder without any modifications. A conventional turbo decoder then operates on transformed symbols to estimate the coded bits. The uncoded bits are decoded based on the estimated coded bits and locations of the received symbols.

In this paper, time comparison is performed with standardization institution in Japan using a Two-Way Satellite Time and Frequency Transfer (TWSTFT) technique as one of the methods for high precision time comparison. To analyze the performance of time comparison in the TWSTFT method, time comparison results via the Global Positioning System (GPS) code and carrier wave are analyzed. Through the time comparison performance, frequency stability is analyzed using modified Allan deviation and by this result, characteristics of time comparison of the TWSTFT that is utilized in international time comparison are presented.
A new frame synchronization confirmation technique using a pilot pattern of both uplink and downlink channels is proposed for W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) system. It is shown that by using this technique, we can cancel the side lobe for autocorrelation functions of the frame synchronization words of pilot pattern have the maximum to-of-phase autocorrelation value "4" with two peak values equal in magnitude and opposite in polarity at zero and middle shifts. Due to this side lobe cancellation effect, therefore, the autocorrelation function of the frame synchronization words becomes ideal for the frame synchronization confirmation since double maximum correlation values equal in magnitude and opposite polarity at zero ad middle shifts can be achieved. This property can be used to double check frame synchronization timing and thus. improve the frame synchronization confirmation performance.
This paper proposes the new signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) that is different from the conventional signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access communication system employing offset quadrature phase-shift keying(OQPSK) and using a chip waveform. The conventional SNR value is so different from a real SNR value. Therefore, we propose a new SNR equation approximated to real SNR. The multiple-access interference(MAI) in DS-CDMA communication system has an effect on SNR performance and MAI is concerned with the correlation functions of the chip waveform. For this reason, we considered all possible correlations of chip waveforms. In conclusion, the SNR value of proposed method is enclosed to the real SNR value.

This paper describes a design driven approach to drive intelligent test plan generation based on adaptive use case (3,5). Its foundation is an object-oriented software design approach which partitions design schema into design architecture of functional components called “design component”. A use case software development methodology of adaptive use case approach developed in I.I .T is employed which preserves this unit architecture on through to the actual code structure. Based on the partition design schema produced during the design phase of this methodology, a test plan is generated which includes a set of component and scenario based test. A software metric is introduced which produces an ordering of this set to enhance productivity and both promote and capitalize on test case reusability, This paper contains an application that illustrates the proposed approach.
