The yeast extract, coconut water, safflower seed oil, arachidonic acid, linolenic acid, jasmonic acid and methyl jasmonate were added to Gamborg's B$_{5}$ medium. The changes on productivity of baccatin III were estimated every 30 minutes and the results were compared using the selected high yielding cell culture system of Taxus cuspidata. In most cases, the peaks of baccatin III productivity occured at 90~120 min after addition of elicitors. Among the compound elicitors, safflower seed oil showed the highest productivity of baccatin III. Also arachidonic acid and linolenic acid increased the baccatin III production.

Water soluble oil was obtained from the pyrolysis of coconut waste as a biomass at $600^{\circ}C$. It was studied that the combustion characteristics of bio-emulsion fuel by mixing and emulsifying 15~20% of water soluble oil which obtained from pyrolysis of coconut waste as a biomass and MDO(marine diesel oil) as a marine fuel. Engine dynamometer was used for detecting emissions, temperature, and power. The temperature of combustion chamber was decreased because the moisture in bio-emulsion fuel deprived of heat of evaporation in combustion chamber. While combustion, micro-explosion took place in the combustion chamber by water in the bio-emulsion fuel, MDO fuel scattered to micro particles and it caused to smoke reduction. The temperature reduction of combustion chamber by using bio-emulsion fuel reduced the NOx emission. The increasing of bio-oil content caused increasing water content in bio-emulsion fuel so total calorific value was reduced. So the characteristics of power was decreased in proportion to using the increasing amount of bio-emulsion fuel. Heavy oil as a marine fuel exhausts a lot of smoke and NOx. We expect that we can reduce the exhaust gas of marine engine such as smoke and NOx by using of bio-emulsion fuel as a marine fuel.
Effects of Ph on the activity of lipase isolated from milk fat globules were investigated, using coconut oil and homogenized milk as substrate. With buttermilk as an enzyme source for coconut oil and homogenized milk substrates bell-shaped curve was observed at $37^{\circ}C$, having the highest activity at pH 9.5. However, lipase activity at $0^{\circ}C$ continuously increased up to pH 10.0. With the purified lipase for homogenized milk substrate, the bell -shaped curve and the highest activity were observed at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 9.0, respectively. Lipase activity at $0^{\circ}C$ increased up to pH 10.0. The addition of bovine serum albumin to the coconut oil shifted the optimum pH to pH 9.5 and the activity remarkably declined at pH 10.0. The effect of pH on the stability of purified lipase was depending on the temperature. Wehn the lipase kept at $37^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes, it's activity remarkably declined as pH increased: the activity at pH 10.0 was declined by 13% of that pH 8.5. However, when the lipase kept at $4^{\circ}C$ for 60minutes, the activity was stable within the range of pH 7.5 to 10.0.
In this study, two types of nonionic saccharide biosurfactants, GP-6 and GP-7, were prepared from coconut oil and the structure of resulting products was investigated by FT-IR, $^1H-NMR$ and $^{13}C-NMR$ spectrophotometer. The interfacial properties of GP-6 and GP-7 were found to be excellent from interfacial property measurements such as critical micelle concentration, static and dynamic surface tensions, interfacial tension, emulsification power, wetting property and foam stability. Detergency test evaluated by using a Terg-o-tometer showed moderately good detergency compared to that of conventional surfactants used in detergent formulations. Biodegradability, acute oral toxicity, acute dermal irritation and acute eye irritation tests revealed that both surfactants possess excellent mildness and superior environmental compatibility indicating the potential applicability to detergent products formulations. In particular, GP-6 can be considered as a strong candidate in detergent formulations since it is more surface active, mild and readily biodegradable than GP-7.

This study was designed to observe the effects of the fish oil and some seed oils on the improvement of the fatty acid compositions of liver and brain tissue in rats. In order to induce the hypertriglyceridemia in the rats of the Sprague-Dawley, 12% coconut oil and 3% each of olive oil, lard, fish oil, perilla oil, corn oil, red pepper seed oil and evening primrose oil were administered to the rats for 4 weeks. In the fatty acid composition of liver lipid, n-3 PUFA contents were most in the fish oil and perilla oil groups of phospholipid fraction, and n-6 PUFA contents were most in the corn oil, red pepper seed oil and evening primrose oil groups of triglyceride fractions. Fatty acid composition of liver lipid fractions were influenced from the fatty acid composition of the test lipids. In the fatty acid composition of brain phospholipid, n-3 PUFA contents (8.8~17.2%) were most in the fish oil group, and n-6 PUFA (34.6~38.2%), though it contains high percentage, showed little difference between groups.
Vitamin A palmitate, an oily drug which has low chemical stability and is poorly absorbed in the intestine, was formulated into a novel powdered dosage form. This is designated as a redispersible dry emulsion by freeze-drying technique. Before preparing a dry emulsion, vitamin A palmitate oil in solid in water (O/S/W) emulsion with soybean oil and coconut oil using Aerosil 200 as an emulsion stabilizer and polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene-blockcopolymer (Pluronic F68) as a surfactant was prepared. The resultants of the stability tests indicated that vitamin A palmitate O/S/W emulsion was improved on increasing the oil content of the formulation. The resultant dry emulsion particles have a good stabilities and free flow properties and readily released the oily droplets to form stable emulsions on rehydration. The drug releasing property from the resultant dry emulsion particles was dependent on factors such as amount of oily carrier(soybean oil) and surfactant(Pluronic F68) formulated. Above 80% of vitamin A palmitate content was released from the dry emulsion for 1 hour. It was deduced that vitamin A palmitate dry emulsion was definitely suitable for oral administration, since small droplets of vitamine A palmitate from the dry emulsion may alter the drug absorption profile resulting in bioavailability enhancement.

To replace phthalate plasticizer for PVC, acetylated monoglyceride (AMG) plasticizers were prepared from plant oil and their plasticization effects were also investigated. Transesterification of coconut oil by glycerol followed by acetylation with acetic anhydride gave AMG-CoCo (Coco : Coconut Oil). In addition, AMG-GMO (GMO : Glycerol monooleate) and AMG-GMO-Epoxy were synthesized by acetylation and epoxidation with glycerol monooleate. It was found that the thermal stability of AMG plasticizers increased in the following order: AMG-GMO-Epoxy > AMG-GMO > AMG-CoCo and all three plasticizers were thermally more stable than those of common petroleum-based plasticizer DOP (Dioctyl phthalate). The tensile strain values of the PVC containing AMG compounds were ca. 770~810%, while tensile strength values were ca. 19~22 MPa, which were higher than those of PVC containing DOP. DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis) results showed that the miscibility of AMG-GMO-Epoxy in PVC was excellent and the $T_g$ of PVC containing AMG-GMO-Epoxy at 50 phr decreased down to $24^{\circ}C$. Finally, the leaching experiment result showed that the weight loss values of PVC containing AMG-GMO and AMG-GMO-Epoxy at 50 phr were as low as 2 and 1%, respectively, indicating that they have high water migration resistance. The above findings suggested that AMG-GMO-Epoxy could be one of plant oil-based PVC plasticizers to replace DOP.
Two kinds of simple and interesterfying mixed rapeseed oil were prepared according to add 30%, 50% and 70% of coconut and palm oil, then the physicochemical propecties such as the tedency of oxidation, foaming activity were Investigated. The initial AV and POV of interesterifyung mixed rape-seed oils were higher than those of simple mixed oils, but the tendencies of oxidation were similar. The intial value of IV interesterfied rapeseed oils was added in simple mixed rapeseed oil, Induction period were increased about 2.4~4 times. Induction period of intereterifyng mixed oils added palm ell increased about 2~3.2 times. While the foaming Buantity of interesterifing mixed rapeseed oils with palm oil were lower about 28~40% than those of the simple mixed rapeseed oils.

Two experiments in the sequential order were conducted to determine the effects of different dietary lipid sources on the growth and fatty acid composition of rohu (Labeo rohita) and to examine the viability of a return fish oil finisher diet in restoring the human cardio-protective fatty acid profile. In the first experiment, fish were fed either with coconut oil (D1), olive oil (D2), sunflower oil (D3), linseed oil (D4) and fish oil (D5) as the main lipid source in the isonitrogenous diet for 90 days. No significant differences in growth were observed. Among the experimental diets moisture content of fish varied significantly (p<0.05) between the groups. Dietary lipid sources had a profound influence on the fatty acid profile of the muscle and liver as tissue fatty acid profile reflected the dietary fatty acid composition. Increased amounts of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid were observed in tissue of fish fed D4 and arachidonic acid was observed in the tissue of fish fed D3. We have also detected the metabolites of n-3 and n-6 pathway in D4 and D3 groups respectively, which prompted us to conclude that rohu, can desaturate and elongate $C_{18}$ essential fatty acids to $C_{20}$ and $C_{22}$ HUFA. A second feeding trial was conducted using the animals from the five different treatment groups for the duration of 30 days with fish oil rich diet (D5). Feeding with fish-oil rich washout diet resulted in the near equalization of all the other treatment groups tissue fatty acid profiles to that of fish oil (D5) fed group. These results indicate that a finishing fish oil diet can be effectively used to restore the human cardioprotective fatty acid profile in rohu fed with vegetable oils as lipid source.

An improved rapid method for determination of the fatty acid composition using modified methylation procedure was compared with the AOAC reference procedure based on the methylation of fatty acid with the addition of BF3 catalyst before and while heating. The new method is useful for research and routine quality control and has a number of advantages over the reference procedure which are more rapid, simple and also reliable. Applicability of the modified methylation method was confirmed with three vegetable oil samples (palm oil, coconut oil and olive oil). Based on the validation method results, we obtained that a quite linear calibration curve of fatty acids was performed with $R^2$ in range of 0.9972-0.9994. The sensitivity of gas chromatography instrument was able to analyze the fatty acids up to a few ppm, the precision and accuracy were good enough with the %RSD between 1.5%-19.5% and the recovery of linolenic acid was 99.1% in the range of 80.0%-113.3%.
