This study examined the changes in the mechanical properties of coral concrete under different coconut fiber admixtures. To accomplish this goal, the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and elastic modulus properties of coral concrete blocks reinforced with coconut fibers were measured. The results showed that the addition of coconut fiber had little effect on the cube and axial compressive strengths. With increasing coconut fiber content, the flexural strength and splitting tensile strength of the concrete changed substantially, first by increasing and then by decreasing, with maximum increases of 36.0% and 12.8%, respectively; additionally, the addition of coconut fibers resulted in a failure type with some ductility. When the coconut fiber-reinforced coral concrete was 7 days old, it reached approximately 74% of its maximum strength. The addition of coconut fiber did not affect the early strength of the coral concrete mixed with seawater. When the amount of coconut fiber was no more than 3 kg/m3, the resulting concrete elastic modulus decreased only slightly from that of a similar concrete without coconut fiber, and the maximum decrease was 5.4%. The optimal dose of coconut fiber was 3 kg/m3 in this study.
The present work focuses on the use of coconut fiber in self compacting concrete. Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a highly flowable, stable concrete which flows readily into place, filling formwork without any consolidation and without undergoing any significant segregation. Use of fibers in SCC bridge the cracks and enhance the performance of concrete by not allowing cracks to propagate. They contribute to an increased energy absorption compared to plain concrete. Coconut fiber has the highest toughness among all natural fibers. It is known that structures in the seismic prone areas are always under the influence of cyclic loading. To justify the importance of strengthening SCC beams with coir fiber, the present work has been undertaken. A comparison is made between cyclic and static loading of coconut fiber reinforced self compacting concrete (FRSCC) members. Using the test data obtained from the experiment, hysteresis loops were drawn and comparison of envelope curve, energy dissipation, stiffness degradation were made and important conclusions were draw to justify the use of coconut fiber in SCC.
Purpose: The development of natural batik dyes based on a combination of coconut fiber waste and avocado leaves using the extraction method is important to support the green economy and reduce chemical waste in Indonesia. Research design, data and methodology: The research explores the use of coconut fiber and avocado leaf waste extraction as a natural batik dye and conducts market testing to assess consumer satisfaction. Results: Indonesian batik exports are growing, but synthetic dye practices are causing a decline in demand. To address this, natural dyes are being explored, including coconut fiber waste and avocado leaf waste. Conclusion: Test results from washing at 40 degrees Celsius in terms of color changes and color staining, from sweat in terms of changes in acid color and changes in base color, to sunlight in terms of color fastness value, to heat to iron in terms of color change and color staining shows a value of 3-4 (quite good) and 4-5 (good), meaning that coconut fiber and avocado leaves waste can be used as natural batik dye.
We investigated temporal changes of growth of hydrophytes, aquatic biota and absorption of nutrient depending on planting mat type (synthetic fiber, coconut fiber) of artificial vegetation island (AVI) through pilot test using AVI miniatures in Kyungan Stream area of Lake Paldang. There were not significant differences of the water quality parameters (DO, pH, conductivity, turbidity, temperature), phytoplankton and zooplankton abundance among AVI miniatures and control station. The benthic macroinvertebrates showed most individual numbers in the miniature which was made by synthetic fiber and planted with Phragmites australis. The average and maximum height of hydrophytes in AVI miniatures was similar except one miniature where Phragmites australis was planted in synthetic fiber mat and grew more slowly. The adsorbed amount of nutrients and microbes in coconut fiber mat were larger than those in synthetic fiber mat regardless of trophic state of installed waterbody. The continuous increase of adsorbed amount of nutrients and microbes of coconut fiber mat for 8 months in an oligotrophic lake indicates that coconut fiber mat is suitable for the planting mat of AVI in an oligotrophic lake where nutrients are limited for growth of hydrophytes.

Currently, Eco-friendly construction materials are widely utilized for reducing $CO_2$ emission in construction. Furthermore various engineering fibers are also added for improving a brittle behavior in concrete. In the paper, concrete specimens with 10% and 20% replacement ratio with RHA (Rice Husk Ash) are prepared, and engineering behaviors in RHA and OPC concrete are evaluated with different addition of coconut fiber from 0.125~0.375% of volume ratio. Several basic tests including compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance, and bond strength are performed, and crack width and deflections are also measured in flexural test. RHA is evaluated to be very effective in strength development and 0.125% of fiber addition leads significant improvement in tensile strength, ductility, and crack resistance. RHA and coconut fiber are effective construction material both for reutilization of limited resources and performance improvement in normal concrete.
This study was conducted to identify the possibility of utilization of coconut substrates for nutrition culture of cut-chrysanthemum. The materials of substrate were composed of dust, fiber, and chip from coco-nut fruit. Dust was used in dust (100%), and dust+chip and +fiber were used in the ratio of 7:3 (v:v), respectively, as coconut mixture substrate. Perlite was used as control in this experiment. Water content in the perlite medium was lower than in dust substrate. The pH of all coconut substrates ranged from 6.5 to 5.8, whereas perlite substrate ranged from 7.3 to 6.7. While, EC of dust substrates shown to be highest but perlite substrate was lowest. The growth of chrysanthemum such as stem length, leaf area, and dry matter showed better results in coconut substrates than that of perlite and dust. However, there was no differences days to in flowering among treatments.
Natural fiber mat made with compressed coconut mat and jute filter is in the spotlight recently as an alternative material for sand mat, which is getting expensive in Korea. Tensile strength and permeability tests for the natural fiber mat were carried out to evaluate for its practical use in this study. Despite of very low tensile strength of coconut mat, that of jute filter was satisfied with conventional criteria of geotextile suggested by Christopher and Holtz(1985). Besides, permeability of fiber mat under high compressive pressure was greater than that of conventional sand material used as sand mat. It was found that the fiber mat has a great potential in substituting the conventional sand material.

Biofilters use porous solid media to support microorganisms and allow access to the contaminants in the airflow. The characteristics of media used in biofilters vary greatly, and therefore it is important to select the appropriate media in order to obtain a large enough surface attachment area and uniform pore. This study was performed to compare hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) removal efficiencies of three biofilter media; coconut fiber, ceramic, and polyurethane. The biofilter packed with coconut fiber showed stable removal activity when inlet loading was changeable, and was restored rapidly when the moisture content decreased. However, the coconut fiber suffered from low durability. To cope with this problem a media of fibrinous polypropylene was developed to strengthen the durability of the coconut fiber. Biofilter column experiments using the fibrinous polypropylene media demonstrated over 99% of removal efficiencies at pH as low as 3 and 6 seconds of EBRT (empty bed gas residence time). Due to its superior physical characteristics, it is expected that the $H_2S$ treatment performance will increase when the new fibrinous polypropylne media is applied in commercial biofilter systems.
In this work, Rayon-based activated carbon fiber(KF-1500) was treated by HN $O_3$ and $H_2$S $O_4$ with different conditions. Specific surface areas(SSA, $S_{BET}$) of the treated activated carbon fibers were decreased by acidic treatment but, total surface acidities and surface functional groups were increased. In spite of the decrease of SSA, propylamin(PPA) adsorption and removal ability by activated carbon fiber(ACF) were increased by nitric acid treatment compared with the raw-ACF(KF-1500) and coconut based activated carbon. However, acidic treated activated carbon fibers were available to removal for various amines and contaminants by adsorption.n.
