  • The transport and removal characteristics of cobalt ions were investigated in a continuous electrodeionization with cation exchange textile (CEDI-CET). It was shown that the removal properties of cobalt ions are strongly dependent on the operating parameters such as temperature, flow velocity, and the solution pH. The transport and removal of cobalt ions was mainly related to the sorption on the surface and the convection and electro-migration through the ion exchange medium. In this study, the CEDI-CET showed good process performance for the removal of metal ions compared with the conventional CEDI with resins.

  • Cobalt silicide has been employed to Embedded DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) and Logic (EDL) as contact material to improve its speed. We have investigated the influences of Ti and TiN capping layers on cobalt-silicided Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) device characteristics. TiN capping layer is shown to be superior to Ti capping layer with respect to high thermal stability and the current driving capability of pMOSFETs. Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) showed that the Ti capping layer could not prevent the out-diffusion of boron dopants. The resulting operating current of MOS devices with Ti capping layer was degraded by more than 10%, compared with those with TiN.

  • A new method of cobalt determination has been developed by employing ethylenediamine tetrabutyl acetate(EDTA-butyl ester) synthesized from EDTA and Butyl alcohol. The synthesized EDTA ester dissolved in butyl alcohol extracts various metal ions from aqueous solutions. Cobaltous ion extracted into organic phase containing EDTA ester to form Co (II)-EDTA butyl ester complex is back extracted into alkaline aqueous phase forming a stable pink colored complex of Co (III). The optimum condition for spectrophotometric determination of cobalt via the new complex has been established. The absorption peak occurs at 540$m{\mu}$ and Beer's law was obeyed over the concentration range of 0∼50 ${\mu}g/ml$ of cobalt.

  • A simple, inexpensive and less time consuming electrochemical methods were carried out to prepare ordered mesoporous cobalt films. Ordered mesoporous cobalt films were successfully synthesized by templated electrodepostion of hexagonal $H_1$-e Co ion. The electrodeposited mesopores films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), low angle X-ray diffraction (XRD) and voltammetric methods. The applicability of thin films as high - performance super capacitors electrode materials is demonstrated electrochemically using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique.

  • Due to the developments of communications equipment and electronic devices, lithium ion secondary battery usage is growing. Along with demand increasing, the amount of scrap has been steadily increasing. In this study, method of cobalt recovery using organic eco-friendly is proposed. Sulfuric acid, Malic acid, Citric acid at reflux device had good cobalt leaching efficiency. And Sulfuric acid, Malic acid at the autoclave increased cobalt leaching efficiency.

  • The sorption experiment of cobalt was performed after the TRIGA soil was intentionally contaminated with cobalt was found that the sorption equilibrium coeficiency of soil decontamination was high when the ratio of soil mass to the volume of citric acid becomes 1:5 The TRIGA soil contaminated with 0.01 M, 0.001 M, and 0.0001 M of cobalt solution were decontaiminated with 0.01 M citric acid. The cobalt concentrtion in the wastewater were measured to be correspondingly 36.0, 14.0, 1.5 ppm. The results of wastewater recycling experiment by chemical precipitation method revealed that corresponding cobalt removal efficiency were 97% 88%. It was shown that the removal efficiency decreases as the cobalt concentration in the wastewater decreases. During the decontamination experiment, a lot of NaOH had to be added, and the volume of final solid waste reached almost 10% of that of the contaminated soil. The result of wastewater recyling experiment by ion exchange resin meted rethod revealed that to more the strong acid resins are used, the higher the cobalt removal efficiency becomes and the cobalt removal efficiency becomes and the lower the pH of recycling wastewater become. In order to obtain more than 95% removal efficiency, more than 0.625 g of strong acid resin was necessary in each of 3 experiments. There was an unexpected problem that a lot of strong acid resin waste was produced which amounts to 9.2% (volume) of the contaminated soil.

  • Nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) are increasingly prominent in the energy storage system due to their high energy density and cost-effectiveness. However, they face significant challenges, such as rapid capacity fading and structural instability during high-voltage operation cycles. Addressing these issues, numerous researchers have studied the enhancement of electrochemical performance through the coating of NCM cathode materials with substances like metal oxides, lithium composites, and polymers. Coating these cathode materials serves several critical functions: it acts as a protection barrier against electrolyte decomposition, mitigates the dissolution of transition metals, enhances the structural integrity of the electrode, and can even improve the ionic conductivity of the cathode. Ultimately, these improvements lead to better cycle stability, increased efficiency, and enhanced overall battery life, which are crucial for the advancement of NCM-based lithium-ion batteries in high-demand applications. So, this paper will review various cathode coating materials and examine the roles each plays in improving battery performance.

  • Recently, plasma surface-cleaning or surface-etching techniques have been focused in respect of the decontamination of spent or used nuclear parts and equipment. In this study the removal rate of metallic cobalt surface is experimentally investigated via its surface etching rate with a $CF_4-o_2$mixed gas plasma. Experimental results reveal that a mixed etchant gas with about 80% $CF_4$-20% $O_2$ (molar) gives the highest reaction rate and the rate reaches 0.06 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$ and ion-assisted etching dramatically enhances the surface reaction rate. With a negative 300 V DC bias voltage applied to the substrate, the surface reaction initiation temperature lowers and the rate increases about 20 times at $350^{\circ}C$ and up to 0.43 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$, respectively. Surface morphology analysis confirms the etching rate measurements. Auger spectrum analysis clearly shows the adsorption of fluorine atoms on the reacted surface. From the current experimental findings and the results discussed in previous studies, mechanistic understanding of the surface reaction, fluorination and/or fluoro-carbonylation reaction, is provided.

  • The effects of Nb and Co ion substitution on the dielectric and magnetic properties of the multiferroic $BiFeO_3$ thin films have been investigated. Heteroepitaxial $BiFeO_3$ thin films were deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition method. Nb substitution decreased the leakage current by 6 orders of magnitude and Co substituted $BiFeO_3$ thin films showed an enhanced magnetization, 2 times larger than that of un-substituted $BiFeO_3$. Through the co-substitution of Co and Nb, $BiFeO_3$ thin films with a low leakage current and an enhanced magnetization could be obtained.
