Residual magnetic field profiles and their current density profiles of coated conductors for fast and slow cut-off current operations

  • Coated conductor is an important candidate for power cable applications due to its high current density. Even for DC power cable transmission, we must study the transport properties of HTS tapes after slow and fast discharge. In order to evaluate relation of the magnetic field with applied current we developed a scanning magnetic field measurements system by employing a Hall probe. This work presents the measurements of the magnetic fields above a coated conductor by varying applied current pattern. In the work, a transport current of 100 A, less than the critical current, is applied to YBCO coated conductor. We measured the residual magnetic field distributions after cut off the transport current with slow and fast operations. The results show differences of the magnetic field profiles and the corresponding current profiles by an inverse solution from the magnetic field measurement between these two operations because of the hysteresis of coated conductor excited by the transport current.

  • Recently High Temperature Superconductor(HTS) Tape is limelight of the applied superconducting machines. Mainly used superconducting tape are BSCCO tape and YBCO coated tape. These superconducting tape are applied such as SMES, superconducting generator and MAGLEV. Actually superconductor tape's experimental gauge is short. For this reason, experiment was conducted. Firstly length of 50cm BSCCO, YBCO Coated conductor@Cu and YBCO coated conductor@sus are prepared. and flow the over-current. Secondly, BSCCO and Coated conductor connected with lenth of 25cm and flow the over-current. Coupled line of HTS tape was compared with single line of HTS tape and these overcurrent characteristics was investigated.

  • AC loss is main issue for power applications using YBCO coated conductor. The striated YBCO CC(Coated Conductor) has been proposed by several researchers to decrease a magnetization loss. A continuously transposed coated conductor (CTCC), suggested by our research group before, could be very useful for lower magnetization loss of large current power applications. In this paper, an AC loss reduction effect by the stack, striation and transposition of YBCO CCs under a time varying external magnetic field. To estimate the reduction effects for perpendicular magnetization loss, several CTCC samples were prepared and tested. Also, we measured angular dependency of magnetization losses of various CTCC samples.

  • For large scale power applications of HTS conductor, it is getting more important to have a stacked HTS coated conductor with low loss and large current capacity. But it was not easy to measure some electric properties. Stabilizer free YBCO CC for striated/ stacked conductors is easily burned out during the measurement of the critical current density because it has no stabilizer and it is difficult to set-up the current lead and voltage taps because it has many pieces of YBCO CC in a conductor. Instead of direct measuring the critical current of a stacked HTS coated conductor, indirect estimation from measuring a magnetization loss of HTS coated conductor could be useful for practical estimation of the critical current. The magnetization loss of a superconductor is supposed to be affected by a full penetrating magnetic field, and it tends to show an inflection point at the full penetrating magnetic field when we generate the graph of magnetization loss vs. external magnetic field. The full penetrating magnetic field depends on the shape of the conductor and its critical current density, so we can estimate the effective critical current density from measuring the magnetization loss. In this paper, to prove the effectiveness of this indirect estimation of the critical current, we prepared several different kinds of YBCO CC(coated conductor) including a stacked conductor short samples and measured the magnetization losses and the critical currents of each sample by using linked pick up coils and direct voltage measurement with transport current respectively.

  • 본 연구는 IEC/TC 90 규격을 참조하여 Cu stabilizer/Ag/$LaMnO_3$/IBAD-MgO/$Y_2O_3$/$Al_2O_3$/Hastelloy C276/Cu stabilizer의 구조를 가지는 coated conductor의 DC 임계 전류의 결정에 대한 사전 연구를 위해 (1) 시편의 냉각시간, (2) 전류 선의 용량을 변화하여 임계 전류의 변화를 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. (1) 5분 이상의 시편 냉각시간은 COV가 약 0.4% 정도로 거의 임계 전류 결정에 영향을 주지 않았으며, 냉각 시간이 길면 길수록 임께 전류 이하에서 전압의 기저면이 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. (2) 전류 선의 용량이 클수록 임계 전류 이하에 전압의 기저면이 낮아지는 경향을 보였다.

  • 다층의 산화물 박막으로 이루어진 coated conductor의 제조를 위하여 각층의 증착조건이 최적화되어야 한다. 가공/열처리를 통하여 2축배향성을 가지는 Ni 금속 기판위에 $Y_2O_3$, YSZ, $CeO_2$ 등의 산화물 완충층을 증착한 후 초전도층인 YBCO를 증착하였다. 12도와 8도의 in-plane fwhm (full width at half maximum)과 out-of-plane fwhm을 가지는 Ni 기판을 이용하여 13도와 4.5도의 in-plane 및 out-of-plane fwhm을 가지는 YBCO coated conductor를 제조하였다. 임계온도 (Tc), 임계전류 (Ic), 및 임계전류밀도 (Jc) 는 각각 84K, 3.3A, 및 $310,000\;A/cm^2$ 이었다.

$CeO_2$ capping layer의 증착 방법에 따른 YBCO coated conductor 특성 연구 (Study on YBCO coated conductor characteristics dependent on deposition method of $CeO_2$ capping layer)

  • YBCO 박막형 초전도체(coated conductor) 제조를 위해서는 여러 층의 완충층이 필요하다. 현재 일반적인 완충층의 구조는 seed layer로써 $Y_2O_3$, diffusion barrier로 YSZ, capping layer로 $CeO_2$가 사용되고 있다. 특히, capping layer로 $CeO_2$는 YBCO와 lattice mismatch가 매우 우수한 산화물로 이용되고 있다 본 연구에서는 $CeO_2$ capping layer가 증착 방법에 따라 그 위에 증착되어지는 초전도층의 특성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 연구하였다. $CeO_2$를 thermal evaporation과 PLD (pulsed laser deposition) 증착 방법으로 증착 한 후 그 위에 PLD 방법으로 YBCO를 증착하여 coated conductor의 성능을 평가하였다.
