Electrochemical Promotion of Pt Catalyst for The Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide

  • Electrochemical promotion of the reaction rate was investigated for CO oxidation in a solid electrolyte catalytic reactor where a thin film of Pt was deposited on the yttria stabilized zirconia as an electrode as well as a catalyst. It was shown under open circuit condition that potential was a mixed potential of $O_2$exchange reaction and electrochemical reaction induced by CO. The effect of electrochemical modification on the CO oxidation rate was studied at various overpotentials and $P_{CO}$$P_{O2}$.

Synthesis of pH-Sensitive Hydrogel Nanoparticles in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (초임계 이산화탄소를 이용한 pH 감응성 하이드로젤 입자의 합성)

  • Recently, new methods to synthesize and process polymers without toxic organic solvents are needed in order to solve environmental problems. The use of supercritical carbon dioxide as a solvent for the polymer synthesis is attractive since it is non-toxic, non-flammable, naturally abundant, and the product may be easily separated from the solvent. In this study, we developed the method using super critical $CO_2$ to prepare P(MAA-co-EGMA) hydrogel nanoparticles as an intelligent drug delivery carrier. The effects of concentrations of PtBuMA-PEO as a dispersion stabilizer and AIBN as an initiator on the particle synthesis were investigated. When PtBuMA-PEO concentration increased, the particle size decreased. However, there was no significant difference in the particle size according to the AIBN concentration. There was a drastic change of the equilibrium weight swelling ratio of P(MAA-co-EGMA) hydrogel nanoparticles at a pH of around 5, which is the $pK_a$ of PMAA. At a pH below 5, the hydrogels were in a relatively collapsed state but at a pH higher than 5, the hydrogels swelled to a high degree. In release experiments using Rh-B as a model solute, the P(MAA-co-EGMA) hydrogel nanoparticles showed a pH-sensitive release behavior. At low pH(pH 4.0) a small amount of Rh-B was released while at high pH(pH 6.0) a relatively large amount of Rh-B was released from the hydrogels.

  • 전기도금방식으로 구현된 자기박막 재료로서 CoPtP 박막은 이제까지 보고된 재료 중 가장 높은 보자력 (H$_{c}$ > 5 kOe)과 뛰어난 각형비 (S*≒0.7)를 가지고 있는 3원계 합금 박막재료이며[1], 차세대 고밀도 자기저장매체로서 [2] 각광받고 있다. 하지만 이제까지 보고된 연구결과는 CoPtP 박막을 전기도금방식으로 제작했을 때, 두께가 약 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이상일 경우, 결정립이 큰 칼럼구조(columnar structure)가 성장하여 보자력이 현저히 떨어지는 현상[3]을 보여왔으며, 이러한 이유 때문에 MEMS 등에 응용되는데 많은 제약을 받아왔다. Improved Tri-iodide Reduction Reaction of Co-TMPP/C as a Non-Pt Counter Electrode in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

  • We report Co-tetramethoxyphenylporphyrin on carbon particles (Co-TMPP/C) as a non-Pt catalyst for tri-iodide reduction in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The presence of well-dispersed carbon and cobalt source in the catalyst surface is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. In the C 1s, Co 2p, and N 1s peaks measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the C-N, Co-$N_4$, and N-C are assigned to the component at 285.7, 781.8, and 401 eV, respectively. Especially, the Co-TMPP/C shows improved current density, diffusion coefficient, and charge-transfer resistance in the ${I_3}^-/I^-$ redox reaction compared to conventional catalysts. Furthermore, in the DSSCs performance, the Co-TMPP/C shows increased short circuit current density, higher open circuit voltage, and improved cell efficieny in comparison with Pt/C.

Synthesis of PZT thin films made by PZ/PT multi-layered structure (PZ/PT 다층막에 의한 PZT 박막의 제작)

  • Four different thin films were made by depositing PZ and PT in different stacking sequences. PZ and PT phases are preferably co-existed in sample A and C that are annealing after each coatings. The sample B and D, on the other hands, have tendency toward the PZT phase after co-firing the sample. The sample B that started from PT stacking first was more stable PZT phase than that of PZ first sample D.

Effects of Bath Temperature on Electrodeposited Permanent Magnetic Co-Pt-W(P) Films

  • The effects of bath temperature on electrochemical behavior, alloy composition, crystallographic structure, morphology and the magnetic properties of electrodeposited Co-Pt-W(P) films were investigated. Electrochemical studies show that alloy electrodeposition has been shifted to more positive potentials and the critical time for nucleation decreased as electrolyte temperature increased. As the temperature increased from 40 oC to 80 oC, tungsten content in the deposit increased, while phosphorus content decreased. The films deposited at T = 40 oC exhibited soft magnetic properties. However, electrodeposited at T = 70 oC, the films exhibited hard magnetic properties. It is also demonstrated that higher temperature more than 70 oC could weaken hard magnetic properties. XRD results indicated that the deposits obtained at 50 oC-70 oC showed enhancement of [00.1] P.O. (preferred orientation) with the bath temperature, which resulted in the stronger perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

Removal of carbon monoxide using a solid electrolyte cell reactor (고체전해질 전지 반응기를 이용한 일산화탄소의 제거)

  • When fossil fuels are burned they produce CO gas because of incomplete combustion. If the CO gas reacts with the hemoglobin in the red blood cells, it may result in death or sequelae. Generally, the CO gas is eliminated in the form of the $$$CO_2$ gas by the oxidation reaction over the platinum catalyst. In this study, the electrochemical CO removal was investgated by using the solid electrolyte cell reactor, the type of which was represented as reactants$/Pt/Y_2O_3-ZrO_2/Pt/Air$. If the overpotential was applied to the platinum working electrode, the conversion could be changed with the overpotential applied. It was found that the oxidation rate could be increased 2.8 times higher than that of the normal condition, i. e. under open circuit conditions when $P_{co}/P_{O_2}$ was 0.5 and overpotential was 0.9V. From these results, it is concluded that the reactor used in this study is more efficient than conventional catalytic reactors.

Dietary Phytoncide Supplementation Improved Growth Performance and Meat Quality of Finishing Pigs

  • We conducted this 10-wk experiment to evaluate the effects of dietary phytoncide, Korean pine extract as phytogenic feed additive (PFA), on growth performance, blood characteristics, and meat quality in finishing pigs. A total of 160 pigs ([Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire]${\times}$Duroc, body weight (BW) = $58.2{\pm}1.0kg$) were randomly allocated into 1 of 4 treatments according to their BW and sex, 10 replicate pens per treatment with 4 pigs per pen were used (2 barrows and 2 gilts). Dietary treatments were: CON, control diet; PT2, CON+0.02% PFA; PT4, CON+0.04% PFA; PT6, CON+0.06% PFA. Overall, average daily gain (ADG) was higher in PT4 (p<0.05) than in PT6, average daily feed intake (ADFI) was lower in PT6 than in CON (p<0.05). Besides ADFI decreased linearly (p<0.05) with the increased level of phytoncide and gain:feed ratio in PT4 treatment was higher (p<0.05) than CON treatment. During 5 to 10 weeks and overall, quadratic (p<0.05) effect was observed in ADG among the treatments. At the end of this experiment, pigs fed with PT4 diet had a greater (p<0.05) red blood cell concentration compared to the pigs fed CON diet. Water holding capacity increased linearly (p<0.05) with the increased level of phytoncide supplementation. Moreover, firmness, redness, yellowness, and drip loss at day 3 decreased linearly (p<0.05) with the increase in the level of phytoncide supplementation. In conclusion, inclusion of phytoncide could enhance growth performance without any adverse effects on meat quality in finishing pigs.

  • 지금까지 변전소나 개폐소에서 전류, 전압을 계측하는 수단으로서 주로 철심과 권선으로 구성되어진 변류기(CT), 계기용 변압기(PT, PD)가 사용되어져 왔다. 최근, 2차측의 계측기나 보호 Relay의 Digital화가 진전되어 또한 이것을 Digital Network으로 총합한 Intelligent 변전소의 구축이 검토되어지고 있으며, Digital Network에 대응한 변성기 관련규격인 IEC 60044가 근래 제정되어짐에 따라 이에 적합한 전자식 변성기가 요구되어지고 있다. 상기와 같은 요구로 인해 당사에서는 IEC 60044를 기반으로 한 전자식변성기 Layout을 구성하였으며, CT는 검출부에 Rogowski Coil을 적용하며 그 후단에 적분기를 설치하였으며, VD는 검출부에 중간 전극을 이용해서 분압하는 방식인 Capacitive Voltage Divider를 사용하고 증폭기를 삽입하여, 각각 요구되는 전압 신호를 얻었다. 이러한 신형 CT/VD의 적용으로 종래의 CT/PT가 차지하는 공간이 필요없게 되어 컴팩트한 GIS의 구조가 가능하게 되어 있다.

  • The NASICON solid electrolyte films, $Na_{1+x}Zr_2Si_xP_{3-x}O_{12}$(1.5< x < 2.3), was prepared from ceramic slurry by modified doctor-blade process. The NASICON solid electrolyte and fabricated sensors, Pt-electrode/NASICON/Carbonate$(Na_2CO_3-K_2CO_3CaCO_3\; system)$ electrode, were investigated to measure phase, microstructure and e.m.f variation for sensing $CO_2$ concentration. The uniform grain size of $2-4{\mu}m$ and major phase of sodium zirconium silicon phosphate phase, $Na_{1+x}Zr_2Si_xP_{3-x}O_{12}$was identified with X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The Nernst's slope of 84 mV/decade for $CO_2$ concentration from 500 to 8000 ppm was obtained at operating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$.
