  • Electrochemical characterization and thermal stability were investigated for MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 cathode. The ratio of MgF2 was controlled by 0.5, 1, 3 wt%. Cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge profiles, rate capability, cycle life were measured for electrochemical properties. DSC analysis was measured for thermal stability. The first discharge capacities of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 were decreased at 0.1C-rate compared to pristine LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2. But the rate capability and cycle life of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 were improved at 2C-rate. In DSC analysis result, the exothermic temperature of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 was increased and peak height was decreased.

  • The following noble series of statistical copolymers, poly[(2-(3-thienyl)ethanol n-butoxycarbonylmethylurethane)-co-3-hexylthiophene] (PURET-co-P3HT), were synthesized by the chemical dehydrogenation method using anhydrous $FeCl_3$. The structure and electro-optical properties of these copolymers were characterized using $^1H$-NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy, elemental analysis, GPC, DSC, TGA, photoluminescence (PL), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The statistical copolymers, PURET-co-P3HT (1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3), were soluble in common organic solvents and easily spin coated onto indium-tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates. Hybrid bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells with an ITO/G-PEDOT/PURET-co-P3HT:PCBM:Ag nanowires/$TiO_x$/Al configuration were fabricated, and the photovoltaic cells using PURET-co-P3HT (1:2) showed the best photovoltaic performance compared with those using PURET-co-P3HT (1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:3). The optimal hybrid bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cell exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.58% ($V_{oc}$ = 0.82 V, $J_{sc}$ = 5.58, FF = 0.35) with PURET-co-P3HT (1:2) measured by using an AM 1.5 G irradiation (100 mW/$cm^2$) on an Oriel Xenon solar simulator (Oriel 300 W).

  • Synthesis of Fe-Co/meso-HZSM5 catalyst, intended to be applied in Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reaction was investigated. The study emphasized the effect of desilication agents, NaOH and KOH, on the catalyst materials properties. Impregnation composition of active metal (Fe and Co) was also examined. HZSM-5, converted from ammonium ZSM-5 through calcination, was treated with NaOH and KOH for desilication, followed by impregnation with 10% metal loading. Fe composition in the initial mixture was varied at 10-50% from total composition. After impregnation, reduction was applied by flowing hydrogen gas at 400 ℃ for 10 hours. The use of KOH solution induced greater mesoporous volumes; however, it had a detrimental effect on zeolite crystal structure. NaOH solutions, on the other hand, increased mesopore area as high as 100%, indicated from surface area increase from 266.28 m2/g of HZSM-5, to 526.03 m2/g of NaOH-desilicated HZSM-5. In addition, the application of NaOH solution increased pore volume from 0.14 cc/g to 0.486 cc/g. Further, more Fe-Co alloys and less oxide of iron (Fe2O3) as well cobalt (Co3O4) had been commonly observed in the produced catalysts. The largest Fe-Co alloys could be found in 50Fe-50Co/HZSM-5

  • The analysis for furan compound has provided a complementary technique to dissolved gas analysis(DGA) for monitoring transformers when total concentration of CO and $CO_2$ dissolved in oil only has been evaluated the aging of insulating paper. But, the analysis of furanic compounds by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) has been important more than DGA recently. Because it has been known that furanic components in transformer oil have come only from the decomposition of insulating paper. Therefore we have manufactured accelerating aging cell which was aged during 60 hours at 100, 150, 180 and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively, for investigating the characteristics of cellulose paper by thermal using analysis for CO, $CO_2$ and furan compound.

  • The region responsible for replication of the megaplasmid pAtC58 in the nopaline-type Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain C58 was determined. A derivative ofa Co1E1 vector, pBluscript SK-, incapable of autonomous replication in Agrobacterium spp, was cloned with a 7.6-kb Bg1II-HindIII fragment from a cosmid clone of pAtC58, which contains a region adjacent to the operon for the utilization of deoxyfructosyl glutamine (DFG). The resulting plasmid conferred resistance to carbenicillin on the A. tumefaciens strain UIA5 that is a plasmidfree derivative of C58. The plasmid was stably maintained in the strain even after consecutive cultures for generations. Analysis of nested deletions of the 7.6-kb fragment showed that a 4.3-kb BglII-XhoI region sufficiently confers replication of the derivative of the ColE1 vector on UIA5. The region comprises three ORFs, which have high homologies with repA, repB, and repC of plasm ids in virulent Agrobacterium spp. including pTiC58, pTiB6S3, pTi-SAKURA, and pRiA4b as well as those of symbiotic plasmids from Rhizobium spp. Phylogenie analysis showed that rep genes in pAtC58 are more closely related to those in pRiA4 than to pTi plasmids including pTiC58, suggesting that the two inborn plasmids, pTiC58 and pAtC58, harbored in C58 evolved from distinct origins.

  • Stars form exclusively in cold and dense molecular clouds. To fully understand star formation processes, it is hence a key to investigate how molecular clouds form out of the surrounding diffuse atomic gas. With an aim of shedding light in the process of the atomic-to-molecular transition in the interstellar medium, we analyze Arecibo HI emission and absorption spectral pairs along with TRAO/PMO 12CO(1-0) emission spectra toward 58 lines of sight probing in and around molecular clouds in the solar neighborhood, i.e., Perseus, Taurus, and California. 12CO(1-0) is detected from 19 out of 58 lines of sight, and we report the physical properties of HI (e.g., central velocity, spin temperature, and column density) in the vicinity of CO. Our preliminary results show that the velocity difference between the cold HI (Cold Neutral Medium or CNM) and CO (median ~ 0.7 km/s) is on average more than a factor of two smaller than the velocity difference between the warm HI (Warm Neutral Medium or WNM) and CO (median ~ 1.7 km/s). In addition, we find that the CNM tends to become colder (median spin temperature ~ 43 K) and abundant (median CNM fraction ~ 0.55) as it gets closer to CO. These results hints at the evolution of the CNM in the vicinity of CO, implying a close association between the CNM and molecular gas. Finally, in order to examine the role of HI in the formation of molecular gas, we compare the observed CNM properties to the theoretical model by Bialy & Sternberg (2016), where the HI column density for the HI-to-H2 transition point is predicted as a function of density, metallicity, and UV radiation field. Our comparison shows that while the model reproduces the observations reasonably well on average, the observed CNM components with high column densities are much denser than the model prediction. Several sources of this discrepancy, e.g., missing physical and chemical ingredients in the model such as the multi-phase ISM, non-equilibrium chemistry, and turbulence, will be discussed.

  • Protein productivity by the cellulolytic fungi, Trichoderma viride(MTCC 800), Chaetomium globosum and Aspergillus terreus was compared in co-culture and mixed culture fermentations of cashewnut bran. Co-cultures were more effective in substrate saccharification, which ranged between $85{\sim}88%$ compared to the $62{\sim}67%$ saccharification shown by the monocultures. Maximum saccharification was induced by T. viride and C. globosum co-culture resulting in the highest 34% release of reducing sugars. The maximum 16.4% biomass protein and the highest protein productivity(0.58%) were shown by T. viride and A. terreus co-culture. A. terreus performed better in co-culture in the presence of T. viride rather than with C. globosum. Among the cellulolytic enzymes, FPase(Filter Paper Cellulase) activity was significantly higher in all the co-cultures and in the mixed culture than in their respective monocultures. Mixed culture fermentation involving all the three fungi was not effective in increasing the per cent saccharification or the biomass protein content over the co-cultures.
