The catalytic performance of silicon carbide supported nickel catalysts modified with or without second metal (Co, Cu and Zn) for the methanation of CO has been investigated in a fixed-bed reactor using a feed consisting of 25% CO and 75% $H_2$ without any diluent gas. It has been found that the introduction of Co species can clearly improve the catalytic activity of Ni/SiC catalyst, whereas the addition of Cu or Zn can result in a significant decrease in the catalytic activity. The characterizations by means of XRD, TEM, XPS, CO-TPD and $H_2$-TPR indicate that the addition of Co could decrease the particle size of active metal, increase active sites on the surface of methanation catalyst, improve the chemisorption of CO and enhance the reducibility of methanation catalysts. Additionally, the special interaction between Co species and Ni species is likely favorable for the dissociation of adsorbed CO on the surface of catalyst, and this may also contribute to the high activity of 5Co-Ni/SiC catalyst for CO methanation reaction. For 5Cu-Ni/SiC catalyst and 5Zn-Ni/SiC catalyst, Cu and Zn species could cover partial nickel particles and decrease the chemisorption amount of CO. These could be responsible for the low methanation activity. In addition, a 150h stability test under 2 MPa and $300^{\circ}C$ showed that 5Co-Ni/SiC catalyst was very stable for CO methanation reaction.

For the preferential oxidation of CO contained in the fuel of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), CuO-$CeO_2$ mixed oxide catalysts were prepared by the sol-gel and co-precipitation methods to replace noble metal catalysts. In the catalyst preparation by the sol-gel method, Cu/Ce ratio and hydrolysis ratio were changed. The catalytic activity of the prepared catalysts was compared with the catalytic activity of the noble metal catalyst($Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$). Among the catalysts prepared with different Cu/Ce ratios, the catalyst whose Cu/Ce ratio was 4:16 showed the highest CO conversion (90%) and selectivity (60%) at $150^{\circ}C$. As the hydrolysis ratio was increased in the catalyst preparation, surface area increased, and catalytic activity also increased. The highest CO conversions with the CuO-$CeO_2$ mixed oxide catalyst prepared by the co-precipitation method and the noble metal catalyst (1wt% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$) were 82 and 81% at $150^{\circ}C$, respectively, whereas the highest CO conversion with the CuO-$CeO_2$ mixed oxide catalyst prepared by the sol-gel method was 90% at the same temperature. This indicates that the catalyst prepared by the sol-gel method shows higher catalytic activity than the catalysts prepared by the co-precipitation method and the noble metal catalyst. From the CO-TPD experiment, it was found that the catalyst having CO desorption peak at a lower temperature ($140^{\circ}C$) revealed higher catalytic activity.

This study was focused on the catalytic activity for the combustion of low-concentration methane using various commerical catalysts (six transition metal catalysts in Russia and one rare earth metal (Honeycomb) catalyst in Korea). Catalytic activity was strongly influenced by the type and loading content of metal supported in catalyst. Catalytic performance showed the highest activity in Honeycomb catalyst including rare earth metal, which was the most expensive catalyst, while the next was the catalyst supported Cu with high content (AOK-78-52) and also that supported Cr and Co (AOK-78-56). However, both AOK-78-52 and AOK-78-56 catalysts that were very cheap had lower activation energy than Honeycomb catalyst. In the economical field, both AOK-78-52 and AOK-78-56 catalysts with transition metals showed a good alternative catalyst on the combustion of methane.
Microstructured Al@Al2O3 and Al@Ni-Al LDH (LDH = layered double hydroxide) core-shell metal-ceramic composites are prepared by hydrothermal reactions of aluminum (Al) metal substrates. Controlled hydrothermal reactions of Al metal substrates induce the hydrothermal dissolution of Al ions at the Al-substrate/solution interface and reconstruction as porous metal-hydroxides on the Al substrate, thereby constructing unique metal-ceramic core-shell composite structures. The morphology, composition, and crystal structure of the core-shell composites are affected largely by the ions in the hydrothermal solution; therefore, the critical physicochemical and surface properties of these unique metal-ceramic core-shell microstructures can be modulated effectively by varying the solution composition. A Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst with highly dispersed catalytic Ni nanoparticles on an Al@Al2O3 core-shell substrate was prepared by a controlled reduction of an Al@Ni-Al LDH core-shell prepared by hydrothermal reactions of Al in nickel nitrate solution. The reduction of Al@Ni-Al LDH leads to the exolution of Ni ions from the LDH shell, thereby constructing the Ni nanoparticles dispersed on the Al@Al2O3. The catalytic properties of the Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst were investigated for CO2 methanation reactions. The Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst exhibited 2 times greater CO2 conversion than a Ni/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation and showed high structural stability. These results demonstrate the high effectiveness of the design and synthesis methods for the metal-ceramic composite catalysts derived by hydrothermal reactions of Al metal substrates.
In order to overcome the cost issue for commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), this research was conducted for replacing platinum cathode catalyst with non-precious metal catalyst. The non-precious metal catalyst (Co-PANI-C) was synthesized by the simple reduction method with polyaniline (PANI), carbon black, and cobalt precursor without any heat treatment. Characterization of new Co-PANI-C composite catalysts was done by the measurement of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for structure analysis and performed by rotating disk electrode (RDE) and rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE) for electrochemical analysis. As a result, Co-PANI-C catalyst showed 60 mV lower on-set potential for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) than Pt/C catalyst, but the overall reduction current of Co-PANI-C catalysts by ORR was still smaller than that of Pt/C. In addition, the ORR behavior of Co-PANI-C catalysts depending on the rotation speed of electrode and the stability of Co-PANI-C catalyst under potential cycling and the performance of fuel cell conditions are also discussed.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with few defects and very small amount of amorphous carbon coating have been synthesized by catalytic decomposition of acetylene in $H_2$ over well-dispersed metal particles supported on MgO. The yield, quality and diameters of CNTs were obtained by control of catalyst metal compositions to be used. The optimization condition of carbon nanotubes with high yield is when Co and Mo are in a 1:1 ratio and Fe metal contents to Co is increased on magnesium oxide support. It is also found that the diameter of the as-prepared CNTs can be controlled mainly by adjusting the molar ratio of Fe-Mo, Co-Fe, and Co-Mo versus the MgO support. Our results indicated that desired diameter distribution of CNTs is obtained by choosing or combining the catalyst to be employed.

The effect of the alkali, alkali earth metal elements on selective catalytic reduction(SCR) catalyst deactivation behavior were investigated in terms of microstructure, surface area, pore volume and De-NOx test. Poisoned SCR catalyst were manufactured by injection of $K_2CO_3$, $Na_2CO_3$, $Ca(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}H_2O$, $C_4H_6MgO_4{\cdot}4H_2O$, $H_3PO_4$ solutions in the new SCR catalyst at $350^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours. New and poisoned catalysts surface were similar. But specific surface area, pore volume decrease from Na, Mg, K, Ca, P compared to new SCR catalyst. Especially, Na poisoned catalyst surface area and pore size extremely decreased by $10.20m^2/g$, $0.061cm^2/g$. De-NOx test results of new and poisoned catalysts at $150{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ indicated that alkali metal (K, Na) poisoned SCR catalysts have the lowest De-NOx efficiency, alkali earth metal poisoned SCR catalysts (Ca, Mg) De-NOx efficiency are higher than alkali metal poisoned SCR catalysts. P poisoned SCR catalyst De-NOx efficiency is similar new SCR catalyst. It were considered that physical deactivation of SCR catalyst was affected by SCR catalyst surface area and pore volume change.

This study was performed to obtain high conversion efficiency of $C_7H_8$ using non-thermal plasma and metal-supported catalyst. Adsorption-desorption characteristics of toluene was performed using 4A type (Zeolite) filled in a concentration reactor. Through this test, it was found that the concentration reactor has 0.020 g/g of adsorption capacity (at ambient temperature and pressure) and 3,600 ppm of desorption property at $150^{\circ}C$ (with in 20 min). In case of developed catalyst, toluene decomposition rate of Pd-AO (Pd coated catalyst) was better than Pd/Cu-AO and Pd/Ag-AO (Pd/Ag composite metal catalyst). Developed non-thermal plasma system was obtained flame amplification effect using injection process of desorbed tolune, and 98% of removal efficiency.

Thermal amine scrubbing is the most advanced CO2 capture technique but its largescale application is hindered due to the large heat requirement during solvent regeneration step. The addition of a solid metal oxide catalysts can optimize the CO2 desorption rate and thus minimize the energy consumption. Herein, we evaluate the solvent regeneration performance of Monoethanolamine (MEA) and Diethanolamine (DEA) solvents without and with two metal oxide catalysts (TiO2 and V2O5) within a temperature range of 40-86℃. The solvent regeneration performance was evaluated in terms of CO2 desorption rate and overall amount of CO2 desorbed during the experiments. Both catalysts improved the solvent regeneration performance by desorbing greater amounts of CO2 with higher CO2 desorption rates at low temperature. Improvements of 86% and 50% in the CO2 desorption rate were made by the catalysts for MEA and DEA solvents, respectively. The total amount of the desorbed CO2 also improved by 17% and 13% from MEA and DEA solvents, respectively. The metal oxide catalyst-aided regeneration of amine solutions can be a new approach to minimize the heat requirement during solvent regeneration and thus can remove a primary shortfall of this technology.

Increasing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere induce high temperature and rising sea levels. So the technology that capture and reuse of the CO2 have been recently become popular. Among other methods, CRR(CO22 reduction reaction) is typical method of CO2 reusing. Electrocatalyst can show more higher efficiencies in CRR than photocatalyst because it doesn't use nature source. Nowadays, finding high efficient electrocatalyst by controlling electronic (affected by stoichiometry) and geometric (affected by atomic arrangement) factors are very important issues. Mono-atomic electro-catalyst has limitations on controlling binding energy because each intermediate has own binding energy range. So the Multi-metallic electro-catalyst is important to stabilize intermediate at the same time. Carbon monoxide(CO) which is our target product and important feedstock of useful products. Au is known for the most high CO production metal. With copper, Not only gold/copper has advantages which is they have FCC packing for easily forming solid solution regardless of stoichiometry but also presence of adsorbed CO on Cu promotes the desorption of CO on Au because of strong repulsion. And gold/copper bi-metal catalyst can show high catalytic activity(mass activity) although it has low selectivity relatively Gold. Actually, multi-metallic catalyst structure control method is limited in the solution method which is takes a lot of time. In here, we introduce CTS(carbo thermal shock) method which is using heat to make MMNP in a few seconds for making gold-copper system. This method is very simple and efficient in terms of time(very short reaction time and using carbon substrate as a direct working electrode) and increasing reaction sites(highly dispersed and mixing alloy structures). Last one is easy to control degree of mixing and it can induce 5 or more metals in one alloy system. Gold/copper by CTS can show higher catalytic activity depending on metal ratio which is altered easily by changing simple variables. The ultimate goals are making CO2 test system by CTS which can check the selectivity depending on metal types in a very short time.
